It's not just california. In the US, the police have no duty to help nor to provide policing services to any member of the public and it's been that way for decades. The worst case, imo is Warren v District of Columbia. In the 1970s, several female roommates and a 4 year old girl were r*ped for 14 hours by home intruders. Twice they were able to call the police for help. The first cop drove by without stopping. The 2nd cop left when the r*pists wouldn't let the victims answer the door. The women sued and lost, with court again ruling, cops don't have to help us. A more recent case is Castlerock v Gonzales. A woman had a restraining order against her ex husband. He took their children so she called police to enforce the restraining order. They refused and the husband murdered all the children. She sued and lost because cops don't have to enforce restraining orders and because they've had qualified immunity since 1981, they're protected from being sued, even when their refusal to help costs kids their lives.

She should pay the owner’s son and not just got away by moving out.

I have first hand experience dealing with a city government process that is COMPLICIT in enabling these squatters to do this. I followed the eviction process and was on a ONE MONTH wait for the sheriff to contact me to evict them. While I was waiting, the squatters moved out on their own. I didn't call the sheriff to cancel the eviction just to see how long it took them to contact me. Guess what? They NEVER called me! The only thing I can think of, is the city was dragging their feet on purpose to avoid adding to the homeless situation in the city. And yes, it is a BLUE city. Shocking, I know.

I'm halfway joking about you coming here but would pay you to do it. It's a huge problem in Florida and it to me it's just an organized house suffering and it needs to be stopped. A) Fire your audio engineer. B) That squatter did not “move into the home”, unless they left out a detail like the doors were left unlocked, this was straight-up breaking and entering. _That’s a felony._
Doesn’t matter what the situation is, police SHOULD have showed up to arrest her.
