Alex, yours is one of best videos of Tristan on here very interesting. I visited in 2013 on the RMS it’s a lovely island with great people but could only stay for three days unfortunately. So many videos are made by people who have never even been there !
Many thanks David. I hope to make a second video soon. Indeed it takes time to know the people. It’s one of the best experience of my life. On the professional level as well on the emotional level.
Thanks Robin. Still happy here. It is a special place. Got a small patch at the patches. And our garden in the house is producing small stuff as well… Warm hugs.
Thank you for the comment. I have wirking here since 2016. I have worked in few UK Overseas Territories ( Falklands, St Helena, Turks&Caicos, Ascension island) and I was always happy. Here on Tristan , I’m part of the community. The people put all their trust in you and it is such a privilege. Amazing. I have got a lot of respect for them.
Hi Alex, you did a lovely job telling the story of the people from Tristan Da Cunha, I really enjoyed listening to this story. Thanks from Melbourne Australia, which just happens to sit at the exact same latitude from the equator as Tristan Da Cunha!!
Like Dr Alex was telling in this documentary, it is a privilege for few of us to experience the life in Tristan da Cunha Travelling from Cape Town to the Island can be a challenge. Unfortunately, it is a weak point. This island is a bit s forgotten island. There is wind 500 days a year! They are waves also 500 days a year that could generate electricity. But maybe that is why this island is so special. But things hopefully will change…
Gemini AI says Planting fruit trees on Tristan da Cunha is challenging due to several factors: * Harsh climate: The island experiences strong winds, cold temperatures, and salty spray, which can damage fruit trees. * Volcanic soil: The volcanic soil on the island can be infertile and lack the nutrients necessary for some fruit trees to thrive. * Limited freshwater: Freshwater availability can be limited on the island, making it difficult to irrigate fruit trees. These factors make it difficult to cultivate many fruit trees on Tristan da Cunha. However, some residents grow vegetables and berries in sheltered locations with success.
