Can you please tell us how wide the "not plates" are? No one seems to explain this, and the dimensinos for this device are confusingly 1.6" x 2.4" x 13" ... not sure if my hair is even long enough to be grabbed by this.

Any heat is going to damage your hair, so I still try to not use it often, but I haven’t noticed any more breakage then normal
