      Hey man, 35yo here and I feel you.
      I'll cut the chase, you don't really fix it it's a part of you it's just that you're not in the good environnement to strive.
      Don't worry I'm not here to talk bullshit hang with me I'll explain myself.
      We live in society made for neurotypical brain 🧠this is why you feel like you need to be fixed, you didn't had the chance to have the good info!
      First, with all due respect ofc I'm no doctor just someone who felt pretty much the same, I can be wrong but seeing your description just in the US there is 8.7 million adults like you, You Are Not Alone! \o/
      Like you after many years of stuggling trying to go forward and let the past be past, I was still hyper emotional with a mind bored so fast I was hating myself for it, it wasn't possible to stop the "teenager rifle creativity".
      As you guess even when it was important it was a big stuggle to go against it and it was really fueling my longs hours of ruminatons and toxic talk to myself, I was seen as smart but not making enough efforts kinda lazy ass but it was hurting me and to compensate I worked twice as hard, and at one point I made a huge burnout with my last job... 😩.
      I felt so bad I questionned all my life but ultimatly it made me face what I was incapable of accepting all this time because I feared the reaction of my family and friends.
      I took the little courage I had left and I looked for professionnal help to check my mental health.
      And boy it was a ride to finally discovering the underlying cause of that chaotic life with the same symptoms as you and many more!
      A year ago I was diagnose with ADHD (inattentive type) it explains SO much of my life from childhood to now 🤯
      Since that time I understood so much, stopped to blame myself for stuff that wasn't a lack of will but "how my brain work" and started to work with method for my functionning now I know why I'm like that.
      And it's pretty damn liberating!! Fucking gamechanger even!
      Today I'm even using that crazy creativy in my new professional project 😁.
      And I'm pretty much here because what Rian say may not be ADHD focus yet it's pretty much compatible the routine integration we do to avoid stress, toxic self talk from past trauma and create way to use our overclocked brain to the fullest 🧠🤯.
      Moral of the story, fuck the appearances!
      No need to fear the looks of others we're talking about your well being!
      If you want to stop suffering because you feel like a fish who try to climb trees (Thanks Einstein) finally understand yourself, your weakness your strengths and how to make the best of it knowing the GOOD way for your brain and go Beast Mode...🦁
      Then you don't have the luxury to wait for depression to go seek an answer.
      Please my friend go see a specialist, seek your diagnosis, there is absolutly no shame no doubt to have, you can even keep the result to yourself and don't worry medication is optional you can decide after knowing the truth.
      For me it was the last chain to break, the hope it gave me to finally be able to manage my days and not BE managed by my days it's gamechanger.
      Ofc I don't say it's easy but at least you know, you can act accordingly you take back the control ✊and the treatment can help.

      why do any of this though. why is the primary professional progress the most important thing? all the other ruminations make life quite pleasant too. should i have toast or cereal. maybe ill try raspberries with cereal today. that dumb gifted shirt must be worn quickly before i grow tired of it. oh look a new coffee shop. those are all things which make life meaningful and happy.

      @@kronamadness7119 I already see a therapist. I don't have ADHD; ADHD is something the system lied to me about, and that they lie about all the time. I'm a creative person, and I was supposed to be all along.
      My creativity and intelligence were the only things that survived my upbringing. I'm not going to go and see some quack that will pump me with medication to sedate it. I'm depressed because *I'm stuck where I SHOULDN'T BE.*
      ADHD AND ADD ARE LIES OF THE SYSTEM MEANT TO CHAIN DOWN INTELLIGENT, NATURALLY CONQUEST-DRIVEN YOUNG MEN. Choking down pills isn't the answer. Period.

To do skin care routine and build muscle I would have to watch videos regarding building science based muscle workout, science based diet for muscle building and science based skin care routine and i would have to invest my brain into all these new branches of intrest... So how would I achieve these 3 tasks of muscle building, skin care and coding at same time without letting happen dispersion

      ​​​@@demigodtherapper483 I think something can only be considered a dispersion if it's distracting you from your goals, but since skin care and building muscle are important goals for you, then I don't know if those can be considered a distraction.
      Timeboxing can maybe help you study and do those two things. But I think it's not a problem and it's normal to think about multiple things you have as a goal. It's only a problem if you being distracted by things that are not important to you.
      But that's just the way I see it.

Suppose I have 3 goals:- coding ,which in fact is most important because it would get me job, make me financially strong.... And 2 other goals are muscle building and skin care... Now when it comes to muscle building only.... It would need me to educate myself about muscle science.... Diet science.... Different kind of keto dishes and how to. Make them.... Calculating my daily protien intake and calories....watching science based workouts and how to do correct form of exercise.... Now talking about skin care. It would lead me to research different different kinds of science based face skin care routine....to research on different products like face washes, toners , cleansers etc... Now... Wouldn't me doing research on muscle building and face care... Would create dispersion. And.... Deflect. Me from. Singularity?

    The most productive I've ever been has been when letting go...slowing down and letting go of goals and expectations and just focusing intently on the next step. There's a strange things about it. Mindfulness helped with this. Books like "30 Days to Reduce Stress" by Harper Daniels were beneficial. Stoping overthinking is such a benefit.

    This immediately reminds me of a real-life example. My dad, who is 58, has mastered efficiency and exemplified effortlessness. For 2 years day now, 24/7 excluding sleep hours and evening time, his 'boring' pursuit has already started to gain traction, and his intense concentration is astounding! He is correct in asserting that ceasing to move forward with that challenging/uneasy topic is just no good, either in the short or the long term. Walk and think/talk ; do anything you like. To be honest, that can happen so naturally that you may not even notice! Then, make it a journey. Make it part of your routine with all the discipline you can muster. Fair enough.

    As someone with ADHD (recently diagnosed), I have really had to optimise the TPN through project management tools, using habit tracking software. This way, the essentials actually get done, so you’re not left ruminating about if you should take the rubbish out now, three days, never etc. This type of automation/cues really helps clear anxiety/decision fatigue, or else deep work is literally impossible.
    I really love this content and it’s given me much to ponder and optimise so I can use my unconscious thinking time more effectively … because ADHD really makes it a hamster wheel

    yes! this is how i am so productive! living alone with no distractions has been key in naturally developing this but i have always had a natural affinity for it. when i get into the shower at night my brain just autopilot starts figuring out what needs to be done in the next day and few days and assembles it like a puzzle for me

    Some of the best engineers of our time have said that we don't think long enough and stead fast about a problem uninterrupted and you have nailed it about the singularity of purpose and directed questioning which doesn't allow for extraneous thought to grow like weeds. It the focus as each one of us has an inherit depth of penetration for every thought we have and by asking questions continually related to the quest do we get the compounding effect but even more so by emotion behind them so the trick is to use worry not run from it but rarely can one worry about success. Somehow we have to find a trigger for emotions to act as fire for the path.

    Decision fatigue is also incredibly important for neurodivergent people! I have ADHD and I struggle with making even small decisions (like to shower or to eat) because of it, so delegating those decisions to myself the previous day really helps (having a rough routine of what I’ll do in the day.). Otherwise I take too much of my energy (or spoons) in the morning just thinking about the tasks I need to do in the day and when and how I’ll do them. This is especially important since with ADHD thinking about the task is essentially the same as doing the task for your brain. I find a lot of generic productivity advice on RUclips tends to be accidentally harmful to neurodiverse individuals, since it assumes everyone’s neurology operates in the same manner, but I’ve found this channel to be a welcome exception so far. Thank you!

      I’m not even a professional and the advice you share has still been greatly beneficial to me. I’m at the very end of my last year in high school, and this video really clicked with me that I’m stretching my attention out too far. Juggling Schoolwork, preparing for my career & future study, spiritual growth & religion, creative writing and my other hobbies has proven too much. Not that Im saying I can’t have those things in my life or anything, don’t get me wrong, but trying to fit it all in everyday and prioritise on the go (famously difficult for those with ADHD to do, and quite possibly my most personally degraded executive function) has been a nightmare. I had found great success after implementing more “active recovery” as you spoke about in a previous video, but now I’ve been able to fully understand why having some degree of schedule to them is important.

      Of course the section on routines may need to be adjusted, since ND people usually don’t have the same amount of energy to spend each day. But this can be overcome by having an ideal routine, most likely routine, and low energy routine to pick from depending on how much you can handle. (Eg. Instead of having to wash your hair on a Friday, you either shower and wash your hair, just shower, or just wash face and use dry shampoo. You don’t pick from those specific options each time however, rather they are part of whatever routine you can manage and that’s the only decision you have to make.)

    "Rumination upgrade" is quite a fun pairing of words. :) It does the job and now, that familiar experience wof dispersion and mind hopping (and anxiety) that having lots of choices to make can bring won't just slide by. I can see how habits and routines can be powerful, and how "less is more", to focus on and get deeper mastery in at any one period of time. And something that also comes up, that I'm sure many people here may experience too, is the dispersal and "unfinished" sensation of the 'stack' of virtual books that I have, started reading and have not (yet) finished. Same with courses and audiobooks... It's an invitation to choose one and go through with it, or let it go if it doesn't interest me past what I have read already. Thank you for sharing this, and all that you share here, in such a clear, concise and practical way! It's much appreciated. 🙏

    This is amazing!! At a point, I thought I’m having a counselling session with you to find out the cause of my stalled progress in pursuing my accountant qualification.
    I’ve hit the bottleneck for one and a half years and cannot progress further with my chartered accountant exams. I used to have a strict routine: waking up at 4am, studying/practicing questions furiously for 3.5 hours, then having breakfast and going to work. This lasted three and a half years.
    However, something changed last summer after I passed two papers. My progress stalled until now. It is funny when you mentioned about dispersion. This could be the main reason why I cannot focus on the end goal to complete exams and become an accountant because I have other things going on in my life, one coming after another, creating a diversion from my original plan.
    Thank you for the amazing lesson and this will help me refocus on my studies!

Plan the night before (with tools like the priority matrix) and adapt when needed. focus! focus! focus! clear the mind, use only when needed. Whatever you're doing, live it!     Some comments. I don't necessarily agree that that spread of focus across different topics is a problem.
    Sure, if you have ADHD or similar, this can probably be a problem, but otherwise, at least for me, the problem is the opposite. I am too passive and lack initiative.
    To engage in more topics actually helps learning and improves intelligence when the brain subconciously finds connections between different topics.
    Interleaved learning is, according to research, said to be the best method to learn.
    Also, most of us don't have a main single goal given by God or whatever assigned to us. Everyones goal is not to be an entrepreneur and create a million dollar business (which for some reason seems to be the example for almost all youtubers).
    Most of us have some interests and do best in trying some different things to see what we like, trying out things is an important part of the process in finding different kinds of goals to strive for.
    But of course that main point is still valid, social media and other low quality distractions are bad and cutting down of thinking of inconsequential things is a good idea.

    Some great advice here. Though, at the same time and 5 minutes in, I can understand why corporate managers and above would love this system. 24/7 productivity is an illusion and not healthy as a goal for workers, in my humble opinion.

    How to move focus of rumination? Let me guess.
    Before watching after 3:18, my answer:
    According to my experiences, good rumination comes when I'm physically healthy (exercised), in a good mental state (meditation helps), in a good mindset (growth mindset), able to control or have confidence in controlling things in life (I feel like I'm the one leading the battle).
    Bad rumination comes when things are hectic. When I have a lot of pressure, internal conflicts, unsolved problems, problems I want to avoid. When error leads to error, and I end up in a worse spot. General life tasks like laundry are daunting, they seem to waste my time.
    And there's something in between. Interesting ideas pop up that can't be used immediately, and it depends on how I use them after they pop up.
    So, I would say that keeping a healthy routine (exercise, meditate, eat food, sleep, managing growth, managing duties) is crucial for good rumination in general.

    Next, I will take a guess on what the video would actually say:
    In my opinion, "bad" rumination isn't all that bad. They exist for a reason. Thoughts reflect a person's needs or desires. The thing that makes them bad is short-sightedness. For example, you ruminate on an embarrassing situation because you want to be accepted as a person, but you forget that you can be accepted through other ways in life.
    How do we combat short-sightedness? A first method that works for me is, again, meditation. Two relevant benefits are: 1) Awareness towards thoughts, and 2) Putting things (in life) into order (in mind).
    To add, (1) means when a thought comes, I can catch it, and therefore think about it. Which can also lead to (2).

    Practically, though, I would say I should just stop procrastinating, and do my homework before watching youtube. In some ways, this isn't so practical tho.

      1. Dispersion of rumination. Wow, this is connected to the other video that talks about high-quality focus. It seems not only the focused state can be seen as credits, the state of rumination can also be. The important link between them: "Every commitment of task-positive-network-based focused work has a default-mode-network-based rumination consequence." (8:08)
      2. Journaling (externalize the brain clutter). How did I forget? It *is* a very good way of cognitive offloading, and dumping everything off *does* make me see clearer. It is evident that this habit has been lacking in my recent life.
      3. Brooding; social desires tend to take over the brain; it becomes the first subject of rumination. (14:05) I actually kinda thought of this from the beginning (y r u cheating). It is quite true.
      Honesty and candor. (14:23) This is my BIG BLINDSPOT. And it is true. I am totally reserved in social interactions. It has led to bad consequences.
      4. Decision recycling (18:04) & decision autopilot (21:04). Timestamps are for action steps. Those need some time to set up.

    I don’t know how to achieve a hobby goal, and the point of the hobby is to learn and develop skills and teamwork on my own time that will have benefits in my professional and personal life…. But since I don’t practice the skills I lose the time spent learning them and actually I’m burnt out and use the hobby to mentally escape.
    Time to shelf it and stick to what I know and what’s important until I have enough energy to pick it up again.

    Im picky about the content i consume. I have accomplished more than many so i have experience that often helps me to determine who is full of shit. This vid is GOLDEN. I told my girl the other day that she needs to decide what we eat because i dont have the mental capacity to worry about such dumb choices i will eat oatmeal and be ok.     Thanks for this video. It gives me push and reminds me to be mindful of my rumination. I get this when I am driving as well and many other ways. It increases when under stress and after difficult situations. Your ideas and solutions are a path to higher effectiveness.

    Very useful theory. It does feel like there's a limited scope of implementation (or for a limited group of people). I can only imagine how a working mother can get "singular focus". Sounds like a utopia. I love productivity to pieces, and totally believe all these things work. I just wonder how they can work in my particular context. Even though journalling and routines are my daily practice. And I will give a good consideration to other points. But silent retreat for 10 days sounds very alluring, but completely impossible.

    Obsessive thinking. It took me years to realize I was always thinking negatively and I had to make a conscious effort to change it. Experts say we have around 70k thoughts a day. Make them positive and productive. It takes 21 days to create or break a habit.

    This reminds me of "The Flattening" that LSD (Acid) has on the brain. I've never used it myself but I'm always researching human biology and particularly hormones and drugs. LSD has this efdect where it literally flattens the ripples of the brain but not shrinking or reducing the brain mass itself. Those ripples often account fir high levels of intelkigence however they are for very focused singular pathways and expertise type of intelligence that makes a person able to intensely master a subject but lack the flexibility to deviate into crwative thoughts and those pathways also take much more time for neurons to send signals. This grants highly intelligent people very powerful ability to focus and recall exact details but it requires more mental work and tends to come with more agitation and stress and headaches or general unhappiness. This is thought to be partly where the saying "Ignorance is bliss" comes from. Because highly intelligent people may be able to access extreme focus but they are unable to zoom out and see bigger pictures or shut off their thought process and it is like running a computer to the point of overheating. They also tend to take longer time for their calculations and pricess despite beung more accurate and observing nuances others don't see.
    So the intelligence comes with a price and the folds of the brain are a big part of rhe price. The folds allow for very long pathways of tmprecise thought but also those neurons across folds often can't backtrack fast enough or communicate across the folds to signal other thought patterns. So intelligence make you obsessive and singular in focus while eventually slower and lacking in bigger picture ideas.
    LSD however has this effect where it flattens the brain folds back into a more simple solid shape. Then the neurons are able to create new shorter pathways where they are not so focused but much faster and able to communicate with other areas of the brain easier. This is shown to make people better at learning new skills and even languages while taking away their stresses and mental burnout of the ultra focused state while increasing creativity.
    Essentially it decreases the ultra focused intelligence but blesses you with peace of mind and happiness, releasing stress and overthinking and boosting creative thoughts and quality of life.
    I would imagine this is something very much needed in the younger generations because of how lost people are into their phones and medias isolating their thoughts to singular obsessions and getring stuck with the emotional burnouts and overthinking that comes with that
