Get the FREE Flow Before Phone Guide: www.flowstate.com/flow-before-phone Rían here. If you want more flow in your life, you must transform your phone from aToy to a Tool. With this PDF you'll learn how.
It's funny. Years ago I made myself a rule that sounds almost identical to this: "My phone is a tool, not a toy." Basically it meant that if it was not helping me to accomplish a clear, practical task, it wasn't allowed on my phone.
While they can be disabled, I find using do not disturb/call blocking apps infinitely more useful than just turning off the ringer. That way if one of my children or a select few others has an emergency they can still reach me. When I've tried phone off or even just ringtone off I found it harder to focus and I was often checking to make sure nothing serious had happened. As most of my work doesn't involve a screen of any kind this is much better for me and once I got my allowed list set up I never felt the need to check.
No it makes perfect sense, it fits exactly. What's the more logical alternative? Reading a book about how to stop scrolling? Receiving a WhatsApp group message? A TV ad about internet scrolling? Nothing fits more than watching a video online.
I see the meaning of irony as juxtaposition. And I feel like people often use the word for things that go perfectly together. Is that irony? I understand. The irony is in watching the video instead of avoiding watching videos in general. But if you could do that you would not be here, but the people who don't scroll at all also wouldn't.
Rian Smartphone addiction is a common issue, but achievers like us know the real deal. You turned a seemingly boring RUclips video topic into something revolutionary. Flow follows focus, and focus is fragile. Treat focus as sacred. Every time you check your phone, you are voting for who controls your attention. Make no mistake, this is a war. 1. Turn off all notifications-no pop-ups, no red dots. 2. Move all messaging apps to an "Inbox" folder and drag it to the last page. 3. Turn off "Raise to Wake" and "Always On Display" (Uff, what a relief!). 4. Remove all app icons and widgets; limit to four apps on the screen maximum. * (Note: Every app is either an asset or a liability.) 5. Kill the color-turn on grayscale. 6. No phone until noon (Flow before phone). 7. Your phone is a tool, not the other way around. 8. Use a desktop more than your phone. 9. Turn off your phone and put it in another room.
I am writing this 1 month after Following the instructions of Rian Doris , it is Working,I used to Spent 2 to 3 hours on RUclips, but now it is reduced to 20 minutes or 30 minutes, Thank You Rian Doris For The great information ❤️💥
I tried your method this weekend and I got SO MUCH STUFF DONE!!!!! Thank you so much! I feel like this has helped me get something very important back!
This channel can come across as click bait at first, but thanks, I really appreciate it. I've subscribed & will watch others in the background as I get on with my stuff. Removing distractions & making tech work as a tool is one of the guy things needed today for us to have our lives back. Then there's GTD, or something for you to build routines to deal with your stuff
Instead of turning off all notifications, set all notifications for Scheduled Summary for 5 pm instead. This way, you don’t develop a compulsive desire to open apps in place of the compulsive desire to check notifications. You’ll still get your notifications at 5pm every day, or whenever you stop working.
Bro, i have to give a Shoutout to you! Grateful for the last tip I've implemented and that is the 3 days work day in 24 hours! I went from avg weekly study time of 10 hours per week to 20 hours per week. Start the monday at 5am till 11pm, all the while really enjoying the day with breaks, walk and deep focus. No strain, just flow!
I have been using the system that this channel promotes from your old videos, and I can say, my life is more in control, it is way better than me 2 months ago, when Im still in my pyschological entropy state, thanks man 🙏
I actually trialled the freedom app after watching this video and ended up buying the lifetime membership! I lock social media, email, even Google Chrome for 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m.. thank you so much for the succession!
This creator produces underrated content, but in my opinion, the videos tend to be too lengthy, averaging around 30 minutes may deter some viewers,as may tend to leave as soon as they notice the extended timeline.
yea and it gets old to see the same structure over and over if im not interested in the topic, like give me the solution, Ii dont need to hear a story or why it happens
It’s wild to think about how many times I check my phone without even realizing it. I’ve started disabling notifications like Ran suggested, and it’s already making a difference.
One thing that’s helped me is using tools to schedule specific focus sessions during the day, especially in the morning. I’ve been using an app like Reclaim screen time control app to structure my time, and it really forces me to stay disciplined with the 'phone off till noon' routine.
Can you kindly focus on high school and college students too, like how they can outperform themselves and learn specific skills for future jobs too. Thanks, love your vids 😍
Awesome, you articulated the danger and the focus loss that so many people don’t even know we are wasting our life doing nothing! Great reference❤ I will consider all the steps!
Definitely the best video ive seen on this topic. I just realized from YOU that if I had Snapchat notifications off, I would never get stuck scrolling on Snapchat Reels 😂
Deleted all my social accounts. Took me months to have this strength. Now I’m in my recovery, so far so good. Urges are there, but going outside helps a lot.
Oh man. This is gold. Everyone at work thinks I'm nuts because I leave my phone off in my bag in my cubby and look at it when I leave 🙃 the current problem is we need to authiculate with our phone to get to email and this does my head in!
Dear sir, I am the Humble DarkStr, i have been watching these videos for a while. Thanks to the systems developed over the past many weeks i have been quietly building my book called " Wheels in Motion" these videos have been heavily instrumental in this creation of this book already `12k words long congratulations - Humble DarkStar, Master in Training
Your video brings many points of behavioral change to clarity, reminds me of the book "Switch", by Dan and Chip Heath. Good use of imagery as well, gets the point clearly across!
Thanks Rian. Another informative video. Love the black background, so on point with your brand! Your hair is looking cool too bro. Excited for the book release. Thank you for all the content.
Great work bro But not all tips applies to everyone I feel the most effective is breaking the habit of reaching your phone which could be by putting it far from you etc Turning it off doesn't work for everyone because their phones could be where they do their business Lastly, it's all based on personal preferences
This video advises some useful tricks, however it forgot the most important point when building a habit: Have a positive alternative for the habit you want to get rid of, in this case know what you really want to spend your time on. Sit down and think without a filter and without distractions, what do you want to try, do or achieve?
I hope this can help me. However, even though we often only talk about social media or phone addiction, the problem often extends to unhealthy behaviour on laptops and computers aswell. For example it's so easy to achive the same highs and waste the same amounts of time on youtube and watching shows or what not on the pc.
Working late is very unhealthy, I'm sure even Rian would agree that sleep is paramount. But working for longer is definitely one of my goals too, 2-3 hours ain't cutting it.
Ryan, you've done it again, I've been getting into a social media slog lately, and I'm usually hyper-vigilant about these things, however, it's been creeping up on me. Not only that, but I've just read Victor E. Frankl's Man Search for Meaning, a ground breaking book, and you tied it into this video haha. I need to find a way to contact you to work with you, are you taking applications for remote work? Haha
Social Media can only thrive and make money when they make you fail and lose. It is a 0-sum market, after all. You can spend your time making others successful or yourself. The choice is up to you.
It seems that I do tap into flow, recovery seems to be lacking because of the resources that I have, but the thought that runs in mind during recovery is whether or not the goal matters, so it would be helpful if a video on realising what goals to set would be nice
I was trying to do research on ADD assessment and getting medication to help me, my online business is dying because I just can't take the proper action! Its always been like this, even in school. I end up here watching this video because I am so scattered and now while listening to this I am scrolling the comments and writing this text which will do nothing for me in the end. oh my brain.
At that point I think the best you can do is to have a non-smart cellphone for calls and use a computer when you need to do things (like we all do not so much years ago)
Hi Rian, I love this video. I actually own a flip phone, so the smartphone is not a problem for me, but the computer is more of a problem which I can still access IG, YT and other websites that can take me off focus. Do the points in this video also relate to the computer as well? Or would a separate video explain my question better?
additional thing that can be done that i found is 100% working factory reset your phone , leave nothing there , no photos no videos , nothing and you will notice the difference in the Phone usage !

Well thats a decent catch.

@@aliveslice Agreed. That however, doesn't change the irony of how I, and I assume others, arrived at this video.

You can deactivate the Freedom app by going into your phone settings, then screen time, and there you toggle off Freedom's access to screen time.
The irony is - I just subscribed to Rian's videos and turned the notifications on! 😂😂 - seriously I need help. 🆘

Hi, rian doris
What's your point of view on learning and mastery. Please make video about your learning methods.
additional thing that can be done that i found is 100% working
factory reset your phone , leave nothing there , no photos no videos , nothing and you will notice the difference in the Phone usage !
1st week uninstalling tiktok and instagram, screen time went from 7 hours a day to 10 hours a week
Could you create a video about self-distraction, as this is what blocks flow for me, after i remove all external distractions ?
Is it true that the more you try to get into a flow state the harder it becomes
