Great Review... ive been in Santo Domingo now for 7 years... have to say, alot of the issues he experienced can be amended by choosing a location for your apartment that fits your level of economic comfort. I moved 4 times with rent ranging from 200-550 (10000dop-27000dop). the 550 gave me a 3dr 2 1/2 bath, with gas for cooking and hot showers, 24 lights, gated with 2 parking spots. with the cheaper appartment, I had to purchase things to keep my comforts, I. e hot water heater and a power inverter for blackouts. American groceries are definitely a luxury you pay a premium for, have to get used to buying local products, if not, you need to shop at 'Price Smart' (Dr's Costco/BJ's equivalent).. all the best fam

I’m glad you distinguished between going out there on vacation and actually living there. People go down there a few times to visit and stay in a hotel or resort in a tourist destination probably in walking distance from a beach and when they go down and live in a regular neighborhood and experience the monotony of life in the DR and the issues you expressed with the electricity going in and out, no hot water, maybe losing access to water when the power goes out, etc. you have a rude awakening. Make sure you have the right mindset . If you’re moving because you want a year round vacation then it might not be for you. But if you go down looking for a new experience and adventure, embracing the differences in countries, cultures and take in every moment good or bad as a blessing understanding that it’s all part of the journey you’ll be fine. Every time I’d squeeze into a taxi with 7 people I’d look out the window at the scenery and think “wow I’m really here “. You only get one life. A lot of people waste it with regard to traveling because they are afraid to be uncomfortable. If it’s not a vacation at a modern hotel with all the amenities they don’t want it. If they don’t have a friend to go with. The best memories and stories aren’t about a nice hotel you stayed in. It’s about the times you took chances that had elements of adventure and danger but worked out in the end not because nothing bad happened, maybe you did get scammed or stranded, but because you lived to tell the story.

Stray dogs and power outtage but when we moved to Mirador sur, the building had a powerful generator so when there was a power outtage, the generator kicked in so we still had power but in Este... Only an inverter so no more AC, no more fridge, no more washing machine...

I'm over DR. I've been here for 10 months. I used to love this country. Between the constant begging, scheming, and horrible govt policies, I'm over DR. They complicate things because they are trying to get more from you. Going to Roatan Bay, Honduras. They can have it. It's purposeful drama dealing with the people.

Would you be able to put up content about good areas for digital nomads to live in. Accommodations, Internet reliability, workspaces, coffee shops, banks, and super markets. Also tips on how to stay safe. Great content Thanks in advance.

He does live in the real Santo Domingo . Most Dominicans in Santo Domingo lives like he lives . He mentioned he lived in villa mella . He doesn’t live in a barrio , believe me there is a difference. The rent is probably about 250 a month in that area . If you pay about 400-450 you can live in a better area and get some of the things he said he’s missing. I’ve lived in both situations in Santo Domingo

right my parents are from there and I'm going in a few weeks first time since 2016, and I'm hesitant of going cause now we have a big house which we didn't have back in the days so idk how things will be, I'm not much of a party person and that's naturally what people do over there but its still bad and yea the power goes out almost everyday at a certain time since forever and they never fix it, also the water runs out for certain people, and u gotta call someone to fill up the tank unless u have a reserve underneath, I'm like we we have water and power here all the time so of course we have ti pay more in the states, also the police over there take money from people, idk like if u get sucked in the street life you'll just be wasting money on alcohol, they all alcoholic over there even though they are immune to it and smoking and its every night, also those damn motorcycles every second is just so annoying, your not a peace and the damn roosters lmfaoo, but nonetheless it has good food and beaches, i'd got visit but like when i go i wanna come back home already cause i'll never get comfortable over there, also idk anybody over there except m 2 cousins

I (plus a friend) was in JAIL in Santo Domingo (in the Migracion) and Haina in Dominican Republic , for 21 days in total. We only wanted to go on our cruise ship home to Barcelona and after dropping off our luggage we had to pass the Migracion Passport Control (before the actual checkin) and for asking why I have to pay 10,- Dollars to LEAVE the country they forbid us to go on the ship and sent us off the terminal , then brought us to the "SEGUDIRAD TOURISTICA" next to the harbour, from there we were brought to S.D. Migracion and also a few days to Haina. I was in the Generals´ office and collected lots of videos, photos, name lists etc, lots of proofs and will make it public soon to bring them all in their own jail. It got worse.... Every day people from HAITI came into the cell after they flew for vacation from S.D. to Panama City or Quito . At arrival they were asked if the speak Spanish but they spoke only French, so they sent them home, eventhough perfect documents etc. Everyone , incl us and many others , was blackmailed for at least 100,- Dollars to get out but I never paid them . I decided to go into the adventure just for principle . . This happened April 2015 and its only a bit of the story . I WANT TO GO BACK TO BRING THEM IN JAIL FOR HUxAN TRAxxICKING ! If anyone is interested,,,, contact me here and spread message.
