About that alcohol thing, always get it from a big Supermarket brand, such as La Sirena or Supermercado Nacional. It is way too expensive at the airport.

Piantini, Naco, Evaristo Morales, etcétera are Nice, & modern Airbnb apts, not far from Zona Colonial but importantly, not expensive

I can tell right off the bat you are blessing DR noobs with the ATMs and dodging airport taxis. Many US travelers dont even realize you can use ATMs in foreign countries and get ripped off by money changers. My dad's a retired, old, white boomer who had to travel constantly for work and went to almost every country in LatAm over the years and hated all of them EXCEPT the Dominican Republic. He would always tell me dont go to this or that country every time he found out about my travel plans but when I told him I was going to Santa Domingo he told me how great it is esp compared to other countries, which was certainly surprising for me to hear coming from him the first time.
as far as prices and scams, it all depends on your aversion to risk and level of comfort and how you carry yourself. as for me, I walk off the beaten path every day, mingle with locals, eat street food, and experience things most tourists will never imagine. I also network with locals to learn about things you wont find on facebook. I literally go out of my way to avoid gringos/tourists at all times.

You need to know the exchange rates and be good at math. That ATM rate was 12 percent of your money.

Zona Colonia 20 MN from the airport...? Which airport? Not las Americas... 20 MN you will still be in Santo Domingo Este. 20 MN is what it takes from San Isidro (easternmost part of Santo Domingo Este) to downtown Santo domingo

Youre looking at no less than a 30 min ride from the airport, maybe more depending on that crazy DR traffic.

@@HungLoMein when I was in San Isidro (Santo Domingo Este), going to the airport was taking us more or less 20-25 mn, going to safety Domingo (downtown) was taking us about 20 mn.

The Piantini neighborhood, Zona colonial, Gascue. Hotels, I've stayed in zona colonial and on the Malecon. There's Sheraton and a couple of other American chains. Nightclubs not my thing anymore but mixer's and la santa among a few. Most hotels have security anyway so you will be good.

    • @HungLoMein

I've stayed on the Malecon as well. Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino to be exact. It's a Marriott property, plenty of security and you need your room card to get up to the floors. As a solo traveler, I felt safe walking the area day and night.

Long video, very little useful info, most of what you’re saying is common sense, and you keep moving too much. Airport liquor is way too expensive and there are a bunch of places where you can get ligit bottles.
