      Humidifier cost like $10 lol. For him I get why he couldn’t use a humidifier bc of moisture landing and dried residue. But for plants the residue would be full of minerals and beneficial to the plants. It would be ridiculous to pay for all of this individually for plants and likely you still wouldn’t reach a constant humidity needed. Trust me. Especially if it’s cannabis. Buy a humidifier and exhaust system.

    LOVE YOU. i bought two humidifiers which I thought were made in America only to get them and they are made in China. Screw everybody but the dollar store, not Dollar General, though. Thank you for your invention.

    You could use a gravity fed jug and hose to keep it level longer. Also a honeywell T900 fan is probably cheaper and provide more flow if needed. That's what I'm going to make also on top of my keep warm kettle or hot shower for those 30% rh really dry days

      attaching a leak proof hose is the hard part, then securing it into the container at the desired water level

    I have a guitar and live in Alaska so I feel your pain. We use a whole house humidifier for the living area which is nice. What I’m looking at is something to humidify a potato and carrot cold storage to 95% RH. It’s a buried 20’ shipping container with ceramic heat emitters controlled by a thermocouple. I want to build something similar as yours with a 5 gallon bucket and the fan mounted in the lid pulling air out instead of pushing in. The fan will be connected to a InkBird humidity controller. You could do the same thing with your project to maintain a stable humidity.

    What about mold/bacteria? I wonder if you could modify this to use a washable microfiber mop head? Wash/disinfect weekly.

      Use hydrogen peroxide. It will keep mold and bacteria at bay. You add it to the water in your humidifier. Just a tsp to Tbsp does it, depending on how much water you are using.

      Do not use hydrogen peroxide, smfh. Hypochlorous acid. Done.

      Wash/boil once a week. And a shammy is washable.

      Or listerine. A drop in the water. Or a small uv tube on a timer, which I have on hand.

      Just use gasoline. It’s easiest and will be extremely clean if you add an aquarium heater and pump … make sure you use a styrofoam cooler as gasoline container/humidifier base. No need for a fan. If you’d like to test the relative humidity day to day without buying a temp/humidity monitor, you can simply pop in the room after the device has ran all day and strike a lighter in the center of the room. If the lighter will hold flame then your humidity is too low and you must use more gas. You’re welcome. And please come back and let us know how much this helped 😊

    I'm going to take the easy way and just buy an aircare humidifier, but this could be a fun project in the future. Also worth noting is that too much humidity, especially in the winter, can be a bad thing. Should be able to use an Adriano or Pi Pico with a humidity sensor to auto-shut off the fan when you reach the desired level.

    This is awesome! I'm watching this while boiling a pot of water on the stove to increase the humidity in my house, so the timing is perfect. Out of curiosity, what's the cubic footage of your music "closet"?

    • @ClosetHymnologist
      @ClosetHymnologist  4 года назад +1

      Ah, good question... about 560 cubic feet. I should have put that in the video. It's roughly 10x7x8.

    can this work during the summer? with central air to make a cool mist humidifier?

    You don't need to use distilled water with those little guitar humidifiers. That's a myth. The little sponges in the type you showed are just squeezed out and re-soaked and that gets rid of any build up but build-up of junk is not a problem anyway and you can buy big bags of those little filters at any grocery store. (You may have to cut them to fit.) Distilled water won't hurt but it's completely unnecessary. I've used those sound hole humidifiers for over 50 years with very hard and rusty water and soft water and never had a single problem. Also, you don't seem to be aware that there are several types of humidifiers and only cool mist "ultrasonic" humidifiers cause the white junk you mentioned but, even those can come with filters to prevent that. Warm mist humidifiers DO NOT cause the white powder problem. Evaporative humidiers don't either. So just don't get a cool mist humidifier. But the real problem is that almost all of them suddenly start leaking like crazy. Just read humidifier reviews on Amazon to see what I mean. So, if you get one, keep it in a large container for when it inevitably starts leaking but put it on a block so the water doesn't reach the electrics.
    That said, because store bought humidiers almost always start leaking at some point and ruin whatever they are set on, I built a similar humidifier to the one you show here. It took me about 4 minutes to build. I used a fan that I happened to have on hand that I believe came off of a small humidifier (just a coincidence. The fan blades are about 7" in diameter and it is set on top of the bucket so, rather than pushing air into the bucket, it pulls are through the wicking material (old T-shirt material). But I used a 5 gallon bucket and I would recommend a larger bucket because, in most situations, you will use up 2 to 3 gallons a day in cold nothern states like where I live. You got very good results with our homemade humidifier. Even store bought ones often barely raise humidity at all.
