- How to Make a DIY Air Conditioner Out of Pallet Wood, Plywood and a few other Bits and Bobs! Having Air Con in the workshop makes working in hot conditions much more bearable. You can easily make this air con unit with materials that you may have just laying around the workshop. This project is my entry into the Dainer Made Pallet Wood Challenge.
I hope you enjoy it 👍😁

Thanks heap for this informative video, another home run!
Going to attempt this as my next project, I'm sure it will make the workshop more bearable during summer!
It’s always a good time when Uncle knackers posts
Cheers mate! Yeah it really makes a difference....good luck with yours 👍😁🇦🇺
Need one of these, live in the Nevadan desert. Thank you sir!😊
Works pretty good Aharon 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Great idea Macca, sitting in my tent sweltering at present, showed the Missus, she said “ hire a cabin” nice try🪚
😂😂.....worth a try mate. Where abouts are you camping??
I have a old cooler with a bad lid great idea
Thanks Dale! 😁🇦🇺👍
Great job knackerzzz best line ever gypsy with a mortgage 😂
😂😂...Cheers Dave 👍 I had a couple more in mind but may have needed some censorship 🤔🤔
I think the judge is gonna like that one... especially with the tasty treats as _an incentive_ 😉😉
Tasty Treats are always a game changer James 😂
That's cool more sturdier then mine ,I just added the fan and pipe to a large eski
👍
That’s friggin grouse mate, my missus works for that Milky bar mob & reckons your joke was cherry ripe 🧐😳😁 anyhow stay cool 😎 & enjoy that bevo or 10 🤠🇦🇺🍻👍
Hahahahha.....thanks mate 👍 Don't worry, a beer or two was had 👍😁🇦🇺🍺🍺🍺
I have a house with a sunroom, its a pergola that has been walled in with plastic blinds. It was getting hot in summer so I put a solar fan vent in the sunroom roof. Now I open a window at the front of the house and the air is dragged through a slightly open back door into the sun room. It cools the house from cross ventilation and refrigeration effect of passing air through a narrow opening.
I like the design but am toying with a peltier device cooling water in heat exchanger and running this through coiled copper pipe to cool air and draw water out of the air as well. Then also running water through the heat side of the peltier to outside through a radiator .
Brilliant. Cheap comfort.
Thanks Dick! Yeah mate.....works like a charm 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Great Idea!
By Rudi.
Cheers Rudi! Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Milkybar dad joke, best yet!!!!
😂....Cheers Robert 👍👍
Brilliant!!!!
Cheers Rob! 👍🇦🇺😁
Here in the states, they're called swamp coolers. And I've got to say, that's the fanciest cooler I've ever seen!!! I absolutely love the design! I wonder how long it'll keep cooling. 9 degrees is a lot, in my opinion. Good luck with the Dainer Made Pallet Contest!! You know, if the pallet full of chocolate fell on a woman, there'd be no complaint!! 😂
Thanks Sandi! Yeah it works really well and yes, 9 degrees is a lot. Unfortunately l'm the judge in the competition so l'm null and void 😢 Maybe l can re-enter it under another name 🤔😂 Good point re the chocolate 😂
Now, you know, I'm subbed to Mark's channel and I saw that Short about you being a judge. 🙄 I should never make a comment before I've had my first cup of tea!! 😏 It's just that I get so excited about your videos that I have to stop whatever I'm doing and watch!! 😍😆😂
@@SandiRose2008 😂😂
@@SandiRose2008 That is not a swamp cooler. That's just an ice chest with ice and a fan. A swamp cooler works like this------- Evaporative coolers, also called swamp coolers, rely on this principle. By passing outdoor air over water-saturated pads, the water in the pads evaporate, reducing the air temperature by 15°- to 40°F-before it is directed into the home.
@@Blueknight1960 I had seen some videos of people making these, and they called them swamp coolers. So, what you're telling me is that I'm spreading incorrect information? 🤣 Oops! Thanks for the correction!! 😁 Now I know!! And thanks for the explanation, instead of just telling me I was wrong!! 😁
Remember, fellow Knuckleheads, if you want NO ADDED humidity, keep the ice blocks in a plastic bag. Coolness without humidity!
👍
Thanks Uncle Knackers - I’ll be building that in the summer. We’re in the UK and love the heat in the day but struggle to sleep with temps in the high twenties. The bowl of ice in front of a fan trick didn’t quite cut it last year! Keep up the good work - love your channel. 🙂👍
Thanks mate and good luck with it! 👍😁🇦🇺
@@robp775 Been bloody hot over here on the coast as well Rob…
I wish my old high school had wood work teacher like you, you make everything about wood working so much more fun an interesting
Hahahahhaha.....thanks mate! Glad you find the vids fun 👍😁🇦🇺
The black paint and sand off finish looks brilliant. Super fun build, chillingly clever idea.
Thanks mate! Yeah it's a get way of rustifying...if that's a word...pine to make it looked aged 👍 Thanks for for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads you could add salt to the water before freezing for the "turbo" version.
@@loopinnerthe Yeah mate, people have been telling me about that. Thanks for the tip 👍🇦🇺😁
My nephew was one of the milky bar kids in the late 90s
😂.....What a classic! Bit of a claim to fame right there 👍😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads For him, not me. I only once saw him in the tv ad
God I love the word Flange…. Nice one KNACKERRSSSS
😂😂...Cheers mate 👍
Haha, mate didn’t know what to make of this build at first but I had a smile on my face for the whole video. Turned out great Shane. Love the streamers, reminded me of my sister’s s bike about 45 years ago 😂😂
😂.....l had to buy those streamers from Spotlight in a Cheer Leader combo pack....slightly embarrassing at the checkout 😂 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
I LIKE IT 👍
👍...Thanks Henry 👍😁🇦🇺
God Bless, Stay Safe.
I’m not saying I’m smart but here’s a suggestion.
You’ve got all the resources for making a DIY Hilsch Vortex Tube. No need for ice and the cooling comes from separating hot and cold air. Exhaust the hot part and keep the cool inside. Just the electricity for compressing the air is needed.
this top ucle knackers
Thanks Stefan! 👍😁🇦🇺
Love your character man. Cheers
Thanks mate! Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Great idea knackers
Cheers Manny 👍😁🇦🇺
"The Milky Bars are on me!" 🤣😂 Took me right back to primary school Shane 😆

👍👍👍Thank you
No worries Pete! Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Very cool....literally! :)
😂...Thanks 👍😁
Okay, Shane, the austral summer 2023-2024 is winding down and ours up here way north of you is about to crank up. So how about a report on that cooler. I have a heavy duty blower that could drive cooled air all over the double garage plus where I do my woodworking ,and since we're on the coast with rich fishing, the bait shops all sell great blocks of ice that would last a day or more, so I'm half way there already.
Another brilliant video mate, two good jokes as well,😂😂🇬🇧
Cheers Phil! Glad you liked the gags mate 👍😂
Good to have you back, Uncle Knackers. I’d been starting to wonder where you’d got to.
I've been a bit side tracked Neil 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
If you add a divider in the middle flush with top and a bout an inch from the bottom you could probably get that last 2 degrees.
Great tip mate! Thanks for that 👍😁🇦🇺
Well done Milky Bar Kid !! 😂 AC1000 coming to a store near you soon!! Love it!

Awesome! You'll love it Roger 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Genius Knackers - love it!
Thanks mate! Appreciate you taking the time to watch 👍😁🇦🇺
Icy cold Knackers 🍺🍺
👍👍😁 🍺
If you still insist on the ice, the device should be updated with a duct going above your head and turning down, so the cool air flows from above.
Watching from India in 46°C with powercut..
Now that's hot!! 👍
Absolutely brilliant
Cheers Ziqian! Appreciate the comment mate 👍😁🇦🇺
You should use dry ice for really cold a c temps!!!
So, use soda bottles vs ice blocks. No water mess and you can freeze them over and over. Also, For an upgrade, place you ice on a grate and direct you air to enter under the grate.
Cheers mate...really appreciate the tips. Cheers 🇦🇺😁👍
@@diyforknuckleheads I live in Arizona, outside temps reach 125f in the summer so makes my garage shop hot. I use this to keep cool. I appreciate your content. Keep it up!!
@@Hazardman51 WOW! 125!! Mate, that's hot. 👍👍
Love it 🍺
Cheers John! Mate, it's pretty cool...works like a charm 👍😁🇦🇺
I built one of these a few years ago to keep my dog cool at night. I filled plastic bottles with water and froze them. That way, I didn't have to deal with melted ice. It was still putting out cool air each morning, after running all night.
Awesome! Great idea re the frozen bottles Todd....you've got one very spoilt/lucky dog 👍😁🇦🇺
That's a great job mate. Looks good too!!
Thanks mate! Appreciate you taking the time to watch 👍😁🇦🇺
ahahaha - roundabout there-ísh. Good entry... But wait, you're the judge..?
🤔🤔.....we have ways of getting around these things Jesper 😂 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
With that airflow you hardly need any ice. Which would significantly simplify the design and get even more airflow for the buck.
I must build one of these, amazing work
Cheers mate! Glad you liked it and good luck with yours 👍😁🇦🇺
Hey, Shane, that was pretty cool. Oops, I forgot to give the dad joke warning first. Love your videos.

Cheers David! Glad you liked it mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Hey mate good job on your project. Allso I allways watching your old . videos. 👍☕️.🇨🇦
Thanks as always Dan 👍😁
Nice job, Buddy! I need to make one of these...
Geez, why the disparaging comments? Summers for me in the US average around 95° F and this would be great, especially outdoors under some shade. It's already humid here, so so what if it introduces some moisture. Great idea, great video!
Can't please some people PW.....Best to ignore l find 👍👍 Glad you liked it mate...l love it and it works really well. Thanks for watching and for the feedback...much appreciated 👍😁🇦🇺
Great build Uncle Knackers you should easily win the plywood challenge, I actually found your dad joke funny as well 😂😂
😂😂...Thanks James 👍
Love this idea!
Glad you liked it Donovan! 👍🇦🇺
Excellent!!!

What a coincidence! Today, whilst munching on a Nestle Crunch, I started reading what was written on the wrapper, maybe hoping to read that it was nutritious as breakfast, and I was surprised to read that it was made in Australia! Didn't know this 'til then and to my surprise you mentioned the Nestle factory in your video! What are the odds?!
"A gypsy with a mortgage"...funny but...
Cool project!
What a classic! If you get a chance, check out this short playlist of Nestle Milky Bar Ads....absolute GOLD! ruclips.net/video/siHsGTyw1Pk/видео.html
Great idea! A real KISS project. Like the rough pallet wood touch. Dad joke was tolerable. Cheers! 🪚👍🙂

I am tempted to attempt this build even though my shop is in my basement and stays cool year-round! Nice job and a great video.
Cheers mate! Glad you liked it 👍😁🇦🇺
Now that's pretty nifty!

Well done, I hope your Fall shapes up well. Maybe this winter you can show us how to build a fire pit, the wife really wants one.

Goodonya knackers top job
👍😁..Cheers Jim
Great idea and execution. Only one addition I would make is a drain somewhere near the bottom to drain the melted ice.
👍😁....Thanks for the feedback 👍 Since l posted the video l used bottled water that had been frozen which was a lot better and didn't need a drain plug. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
I am assuming he is using dry ice. There would be no liquid to drain.
What a *cool* build uncle knackers 😎
Cheers mate 🇦🇺😁👍
I wouldn’t use black since that colour doesn’t reflect much sunlight and gets hot quickly when in direct sunlight.
I seen the same idea about 10 years ago, you could be nice and cool if you could squeeze into the outlet, would be better if you could give a reference to the temperature of the whole work space over a certain period of time, but nice finish 😉
Thanks Bob 👍
Really cool!
👍😁...Cheers mate 👍👍
Great excuse for an esky in the shed
😂....Don't tell the missus
Ingenious! And it looks great too!
Thanks Krickette! 👍😁🇦🇺
Excellent vid Uncle, great way to stay cool! Thanks
Thanks Paul...appreciate the feedback mate 😁🇦🇺👍
This project is way more difficult in the states. It's a supply chain issue. We just can't get bits and bobs like we used to.
That's a shame Rick....
pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee take that joke back!!!! omg lol
😂😂
Great ideaShane
👍👍...Cheers mate
Calling bulldust on this on cobber 😂 The fan will move air faster than the ice can cool it so after the first cool blast it will be getting warmer. Half fill it with water and ice and you'll have more luck.
I wonder if it would work even better if you used small ice cubes like you have in a drink!
Not sure Ashton 🤔
Yes good one , You have to be careful where you are pointing that thing !
Thanks Bob! 👍😁🇦🇺
it looks great good tips nice one mate
Thanks Michael 👍🇦🇺👍
Nice one Knackers, although it was a bit extravagant with the toggle clamp. Could have saved an extra 10c. Ok I'm a bit hoity toyie. I have one of those patio A/C blowing on my back while in the shed. Had temps up to 42c in my shed this summer in Perth.
Thanks Peter! Same over here mate on the Mid North Coast of NSW....had a couple of shockers!! Yeah the toggle clamp was a little fancy 😂 Appreciate you taking the time to watch mate 👍😁🇦🇺
I don't know why people are saying it's not air conditioning, until the ice melts the ice will be condensing water from the air as well as cooling it. Once all the ice has melted it might have some very small evaporative cooling, but very little as it has a relatively small surface area, where swamp coolers recirculate water to maximize the surface area.
Cheers mate! Appreciate the feedback 👍👍
Great build
Ive been thinking about bulding something similiar. Just off grid. And digging a hole in the shadow/under the shop instead of ice. 🛠️But it is a bigger job... 😒
Thanks Malene! Sounds like a good idea getting off the grid..good luck with it 👍😁🇦🇺
Check my prototype. I found a new way to cool. More details are in the description. It works like a real ac unit but doesn't need a lot of power. It doesn't require any ice nor cold water.
Awesome job brother!!! 🇺🇸
👍😁...Cheers Frank! Hope you're well mate and thanks as always for watching 😁🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
@DIYForKnuckleheads cheers mate..your butt joke.. we say ass hinge here in America..lol. uh as in uh donkey...
That's a cracking project, man! Take care in the heat! 🍻
Thanks Andy! Mate it's been so hot lately, kind of looking forward to it cooling down to tell you the truth 👍😁🇦🇺
That's grouse!! It probably works better than my store bought AC. How long does the ice last for? 🥶👍👍🍺🍺
Cheers Big Fella! Works a treat mate and l didn't wait till the ice ran out because l had to get cracking to get the bloody video done 😂 😁🇦🇺🍺🍺
Seems like a lot of effort for a basic swamp cooler.
For the 46 year olds, you also said BUTT! 😂Never too old to be juvenile.
FANtastic build Shane. And glad you threw in the Coopers. Cheers! 🍻
😂...Cheers mate. Gotta love a Coopers Jamie 🍺🍺 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Not to mention saying 'flange'.
@@legobatman8353 flange was the one that broke me up.😂
Does that ice box have a drain plug on it? If not a good improvement would be to fit one don't you think?
A drain plug is a good idea or just freeze the water in bottles. That way you won't have the water issue to deal with 👍
im looking to build a box this summer but its for a diesel heater that i have down the side of the house. i have it running through in to my rear door on the house to help with heating during the winter. i might make a box similar to this, just needs to be narrower and have a sloping top so any rain runs off.
Sounds like a plan mate 👍👍
