Pro tip! When cutting through thin plastic, run drill in reverse! Also, heat guns softened the plastic, which makes it less prone to crack! Great video! Thanks, I'll be making this for my tent
Every time I'm in the indoor garden my four year old wants to watch this video. He calls it his favorite! Thanks for leaving in the flying marker and the broken lid segments. We've probably watched this 10 times already.
I picked this up for work. My last one was smaller ruclips.net/user/postUgkxtD9aJ2m6GU-X1IChQxjn9l31K1A7Kpwj and cuter but the motor burned out within a few months. This one's footprint is a tad bigger but it still doesn't eat up a lot of desk space. Its size and shape blends into the background nicely. This has a good size water container so I don't need to refill more than once a week. I use filtered (not distilled) water because cleaning up after our hard water is tough at work. I like that this has several settings. It's also very quiet. (I have a silence naxi in the next cubicle.) It also hasn't left that terrible while powder, so far, that some humidifiers leave. Been using this for a month or so now and am very happy with my purchase.
Why does this read like it belongs in the "Reviews" section of Amazon? 😂 Thanks for mentioning it, though -- that does actually sound simpler than building this, especially when I don't know the first thing about rewiring.
Top-secret pro tip: if you build a little float for the ultrasonic disc to sit in, you can ensure that the disc is always at the proper depth for maximum mist and you can use a deeper container.
Yeah, usually I use a float valve on my bigger humidifiers. This little one I've been running the last few days and I still haven't needed to refill it.
Dude, you are a trip. Thank you for an informative and entertaining vid. I only wished I saw before I dropped a few bucks on a humidifier that was over-priced as well as over-kill.
I did this after your video works great ty. I'm using it for my grow tent and I added a smart switch and a smart hygrometer so I have the hygrometer in my tent and it turn in the smart switch Wich is connected to the humidifier everytime my tent goes under 45rh %
great mini unit Tom . Can I recommend one addition to your great design ? add a short vertical hose , then add a t fitting. at the 12 o'clock pipe end put a cap over it . The 12 o'clock opening is now your water fill hole , so no need to remove the lid :) the second - 3 o'clock part of the " T" , goes to the fruit chamber. worth a consider. Please keep creating and teaching new growers how to get it done . thanks
I'm trying to picture what you are saying here. You are saying to put a T on top of the bulkhead, correct? This would make 2 openings: 9 oclock and 3. You are saying one side will have an end cap for removal to add water. You would be pouring it in sideways. Is this what you mean? If so, I would just have two bulkheads, one with a cap, and the other is the humidified air.
Awesome and way easier than messing around with pre-made ultrasonic humidifiers. I use something very similar, except I snagged an IP68 or whatever waterproof fan from the internets for not-much-money, and just sorted through all my old USB chargers etc until I found one that would be suitable. Same thing with the humidifiers, except I use two because my room is located in an awful location and Australia gets hot as manure. Got away with a single one last year in a 4 tier plastic greenhouse (with a big tray of perlite at the bottom) with only a few issues on the hottest days.
Nice man! Have you had any issues initially with your ultrasonic humidifier? Mine is very inconsistent at the moment, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to work consistently
Oh man i laughed so hard when his tub broke... I was deep in a train of thought and my attention was fully brought back when the tub suddenly shattered to pieces, KO! I was actually expecting some sad music or something but I had a hard time not spraying my ice cream all over my new bamboo duvet. Good stuff, a true comedian.
Pro tip, if you reverse the drill bit when drilling through the plastic and create a pilot groove and then turn it back to rotate clockwise and drill your hole you won't (shouldn't) busy through the plastic :) learned for many monotubs/plant grow bins ;)
Pro tip: you can read the first two comments and then clearly see that some another genius like yourself has already alerted Tom to the reverse the drill trick lmao
I'm looking to make a humidity kit like this but how do you control the humidity I need to make two kits one at 50 % humidity and one at 70% humidity 😅 idk if that's possible
interesting design. i've had poor luck with the ultrasonics, they keep dying after a short while. I've been thinking about how to DIY a bigger (than my current off-the-shelf 4ltr capacity) humidifier, though the ultrasonic doobalackies don't seem to like sitting in too deep water, which makes me wonder how to be able to increase capacity...
I’m using a reptile 4 L, but I recently got a little bigger light and my humidity staying in about 42 without it on. I started growing mushrooms 68 years ago, and I watched Willy World make a monster one with a black and yellow tote. Have you ever thought of a 5 gallon bucket and if so what’s wrong with it?
i want to ask. Could this humidifier setup able to increase a full 6 meter x 4 meter room ? Or do i need a lot more than this ? I know i am a dum dum when it come to this, but i am kinda lost right now. I really need your answer.
lmao! most americans would’ve tried to convert everything. i wouldn’t have. i’d just look at the metric side 🙄 thanks for the comedic tutorial. loved it! 😂

I have an idea. I'm planning to make an automated monotub and think I'll probably run relays, one for fan and one for transducer both powered from the single power supply. When you just require ventilation, turn on the fan only, for humidity, turn em both on.
@@OakandSpore Great minds think alike! just watched the one on your new units, looks nice, I assume that they take a freshwater input because of the pipes and what looks to be a filter in the back of the unit. It would be very interesting to know just how they modulate the intensity of the transducers. Thanks for all your great videos mate 👍
How do you deal with the atomizer just using up all the water within a couple hours? I tried the same thing but the little atomizer thing just uses up all the water to quick to be worth it.
thanks for uploading - i had never seen these little fogger modules before but its the very thing. you can also get very tidy little modules for humidity/temperature control complete with sensors. switching AC or DC 12/24v versions. ( about £15 GBP ) im thinking that the DC version could work nicely with a system like this, all running off the same transformer. ( probably safer than the AC one too)
@@OakandSpore That is very interesting. I like electronics so that is quite a bummer. Perhaps looking into modifying a few kinds of smoke detectors would be worth while for higher accuracy measurements. I'll check it out.

Hi! Thanks for this video! Do you place the DIY humidifier on the floor of the mushroom house or put it on a ledge high up in the room? I've just started a very cute oyster mushroom house, about 2x3 sq meters and 6 ft tall. I have 400 bags. I'm from the Philippines and temp is between 27-37C and humidity is 70-90. Right now I'm just doing mist spraying 3x a day directly on the fruits and fruiting bags, the walls and floor. I think I'm not doing things right because my fruits start to go yellow and dry up after 2 days.

What do you use for a float?
Indeed, cork or styrofoam are great for that
@@OakandSpore he means a float to set the heigh of the misting module closer to the surface since it doesn't mist at the bottom of a deeper container
If you get an arduino, you can plug in the fan and a humidity sensor to the board to control it autonomously.
