    The p229 was designed for .40 s&w so it has a heavy strong wide slide. It weighs more than the p226 slide. The p229 9mm slide is similar in width to the p226 slide but about .5 inch shorter.

  • @andrewjohnson6907
    @andrewjohnson6907 2 года назад +8

    The old P229 prior to about 2011 had a 9mm standard capacity of 13 rounds.
    Since they standardized the frame size between the 9mm and 40/357 229, there is more room for 9mm ammo and it's now 15.

    A few times a year the Sig Custom Shop runs deeply discounted packages for your Sig pistols that few people know about. Several years ago I purchased a police trade in Sig P229 in .40S&W, then waited for one of the Custom Shop discounts to happen. I sent the pistol off to Sig with Sig paying for the postage both ways. Once the pistol arrived at Sig, I had the worn out night sights replaced, a SRT and a trigger job done to the pistol, the pistol was torn down cleaned and all springs were replaced as well as any other parts the armorer deemed necessarily to replace. The barrel throat was polished and the entire pistol was ultra sound cleaned, lubed then put back together and test fired. Including the original price that I paid for my Sig and all the work that the custom shop did to it thanks to the discounts I still came out ahead saving myself several hundred dollars over the price of a brand new Sig. The pistol was shipped out on a Monday and returned to me the following Monday.

      I took advantage of this offer for my ancient P6 which was a surplus West German Police pistol. Now it runs like a new gun with night sights. The springs are lighter than the original police issue so the trigger pull is much improved. This deal is a bargain.

    My boyfriend got the 229 but I got the 226, both in .40 since I like the bit less recoil. Hate the p238. Too snappy, the full size is easier to shoot.

      @kuzyarasuk1927 3 года назад +1

      Good choice on the 226/9 but have to disagree on the p238 it shoots .380 ACP so you barely feel the recoil… you may be thinking of p938 in which is the same as 238 but shoots 9mm. In that case I agree 938 is a bit snappy for a microcompact… of that size p365 is the better 9mm

    The real difference is the 226 barrel is 4.4" and the 229 barrel is 3.9", standard barrels not extended. For conceal carry I'd go with the Gen 2 239, it's a single stack, 3.6" standard barrel and went through the custom shop to remove anything that might snag ect. I've owned a few Sigs since 87 and I must say the 239 has the best trigger of any Sig I've ever owned.

    The comparison should be P226 chambered in 9mm and P229 chambered in 40S&W. The P229 was derived from the P226 and originally designed to shoot 40. The P229 is a fatter more squat P226 than can shoot 40 better than any other gun IMO. The P229 chambered in 9mm is slimmer than the P229 in 40 so it feels like more similar to the P226 just shorter.

    Is the P229 you showed is chambered in 9mm or .40S&W? If it was chambered in .40S&W, would the grip be a little thinner like that of the P226 if it was chambered in 9mm instead?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 лет назад +1

      This one is chambered in 9mm. I am pretty sure the frames are the same.
      I don't have a .40 S&W to compare to but it looks like they would both be the same thickness for the exact same gun between calibers, based upon Sig's specs.
      One thing that can vary from model to model is the grips themselves (they are replaceable) so a 229 Legion in one caliber and a 229 Elite in the same caliber may have different thicknesses.

    • @GNEvans180
      @GNEvans180 7 лет назад

      Hammer Striker one more question... how does the grip thickness of that 229 compare to the grip thickness of a G17 or 19? sorry for the random questions, I'm trying to find a Sig for my dad's birthday. I own many handguns, but not a Sig yet, so I'm having issues finding the best Sig fit for his hands.

    • @TheThennowforever
      @TheThennowforever 7 лет назад

      Evans if it's the same model it doesn't change anything about the gun besides the barrel. The cool thing about sig is they all offer a conversion kit so you can change multiple barrels but keep the same gun

    • @davemurphy5034
      @davemurphy5034 6 лет назад

      The 229 was designed around the 40. I also have many sigs and love the 229 in 9mm. The 229 has a much heavier slide than the 226 and therefore it is a chunk and weight is hefty.

    I currently carry the p226 mk25 style in 40s&w. When I bought it last year it was missing the top mag release side grip screw. Thats reason enough to go ahead and order new grips too I've been wanting I feel. Lol. I like the grip raised grid pattern on the 229 and wanna try to find some that is like that on the whole grip area. Reminds me of the Springfield Emissary 1911 grip pattern. I want them that brushed silver/black color too if possible. Know any possible leads on any? Was thinking LOK may or someone on ETSY for customs. I used to have the p229 no-rail that looked like my 226 but I sold it to get my railed 226. One of the only 2 guns I've ever sold. But I didn't want to miss it and like you, it just fit my mits better and plus I like a rail on some guns. This style being some. Anyhoo, appreciate the video. 🐍🇺🇸

    • @HammerStriker

      Roughly 2oz, which would be significant with a pocket pistol but since both of these are north of 30 oz to begin with it is not noticeable.

    what's your opinion on the CPO Sig Sauer pistols

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  7 лет назад

      We have not personally handled a CPO Sig. The one disappointing thing about it is the warranty. A New Sig has a non-transferable lifetime warranty whereas the CPO has a 1 year warranty. Sig's armory usually does great work and the CPO pistol would be more likely to be in proper operating condition than a random used one.
      The CPO program does not address cosmetics and does not seem to guarantee a "like-new" condition, just that it works properly. You may get one with holster wear or other cosmetic issues so I would be wary of buying one sight-unseen over the internet unless the seller provides pictures and guarantees you get THAT gun.
      Overall, I would likely lean towards a New one unless the CPO was significantly less expensive or was on a pistol no longer in production that I really wanted (ie: New is not an option).

    Does that half inch difference really effect how it shoots? I wanna test both out, but I'm looking at the Enhanced Elite and I think the shops around me only have the P229 EE.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  5 лет назад

      From a purely mechanical perspective, it has minimal effect. Any difference will be related to how one or the other fits you and which one you can more comfortably hold and control.

    Can either of these guns be carried cocked and locked like a 1911? If there is a round in the chamber, wouldn’t that translate to a single action only firearm? I Really like your videos so much so that I have subscribed and I also do not like double action guns. Just wondering.

    • @PileofBrass
      @PileofBrass 10 месяцев назад

      NO. Carrying cocked with the DA/SA is dangerous. These are designed to be carried hammer down.

    I just purchased a Legion P220, and it shoots the same as yours, low and to the left! Is this common with Sigs?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  4 года назад

      I don't think they are inaccurate, it is more likely the size/shape of the grip affecting the shooter. I believe with some time spent perfecting the handling of it, that can be eliminated. I don't have this same issue with the P226 now that I have had it for a bit, nor a 229 9mm that I have had now for a while (this 229 was a loaned for the review).

      You can get a used P226 around the 500 up to 700 hundred dollar threshold, I got my surplus P226 for 499, it's an amazing deal for a Sig imo, and one that is combat proven and that's been issued to United States navy and even been used by special forces (navy seals)
