Its amazing what skimboarding has become, i remember when i was a kid it was just sliding on an inch of water. Now its insane its awesome to see a sport progress so much in my life time.
That last guy, Ouch! I love how they throw down and get some major speed on their skimboards! That's how they're able to ride those awesome waves. I've gotta practice before i get that good. lol =)
It nuts how good some guys are at skim boarding. I can make my way out to a wave and jump, but it seems impossible when your out there to grab the wave back in as easily as these guys do.
When he turns his board sideways while approaching the wave it's called hydro planing and he does it to keep speed up cuz if u slow down ur board just sinks and those slingshot things are awesome
@mildongo yes there is a big difference, carbon fiber boards, are thicker and usually have a foam core, so its more buoyant, basically carbon fiber boards, fiberglass boards and epoxy boards are just scaled down surfboards, without the fins
@MrHudDaStud deffinetly go with the Vic Ultra they last way longer for when you really start cuttin into the waves. I used to have it as a first board man. You will do great and really love it.
good ones for ppl starting are usually the wood ones that arent really brand name boards. theyre relatively cheap and hold pretty sturdy, but they cant quite do the wave ridin like this; this is with boards that are built better & have special shape and sumtimes a back foot grip
Some are made from different weaves of fiberglass and different resins. Other are made of different weaves of carbon fiber (very expensive) and of course different types of resin. They all vary, but the cheapest nice fiberglass is about $180
@KOOLMEGAKID9559 the chances are very slim. Most boards float and they always make it back to shore. The waves will normally bring them in but don't get discouraged when u can't find ur board for ten minutes because I've had boards get washed back to land after 45 minutes. Just don't worry about it
on that skimboard vid, they get extra speed because theres a rip current and it pulls them in, thats why not many people are in the water. hope this helps =)
Well, coupled with my daily work drenched life, skateboarding was a little thing I did on the side, and eventually I got up to a really good point in my skateboarding. But this is just so much better. I can go to the beach, do my thing, and meet new people, excluding security guards ^^
@Jiao12 yes it is...extremely fun.Way more then surfing..and i do both.even surfing, its very rare to stay in the same wave for mor then 4 or 5 seconds.and when surfiong, you have to swuim all the way back to the place you were before....skimbording is more pratic =)
@Mitcholll they're usingi full sized Ocean Wedges. I'm relatively new to the sport, so I use a Zap wedge but many companies make these style boards for wave riding. There's no way you're going to get a wood board to float on a wave.
hydroplane sideways on your board to get far out (more less friction...) and you have to bend your knees to cushion the wake, once you get on the wave its like a really fast surf board without fins, you have to pump for momentum and balance though...
dude all the surfers were loooking at the last guy in the vid they were all lik woah dude that guy is surfin the shallow waves! he's on a skimboard! lolololololololololololol
@Zaper692 not only that, just like surfboards, skimboards have sizes, check if your skimboard is the right size for you. p.s. if your skimboard is a woodie, then thats your problem lol.
@guitarplaysalex yes they can go about 25 meters if ur a good skimboarder i myself got a woodiiee and foamiee but i prefer my wooden board cause it is steady for flat land
@oXcookiecrispXo You have to be moving...fast. you want to start on the skim and then move into the big stuff once you have momentum. Also you might have a beggining board which is completely flat and wooden or something which is much harder to get above the water so you might want to get a board that is bigger and angles up in the front and a stomp pad.
You can use almost any foam/polyuarthane/carbon fiber board to ride deeper in the water and help keep you ontop of the water instead of sinking. So yes, depending on your skill level. most of these guys are prob riding carbon boards though.
it takes timing to surf, when to pop up etc.. but a skimboarders timing is impecible! They are so perfect lol, i supose it is all local stuff though, and everybody knows the break of their local beach,
not much if you have a bright color skimboard. don't expect it to just sink in the water. It will most probably stay on top of the water or if not, get washed to shore. Just don't be worried ;)
@Mitcholll U answered ur own question, urs is made of wood. Get the Victoria Skimboard known as "Foamie" you'll be alright, wooden ones are not made for wave riding like, at ALL
@Jiao12 ok so you have 10 a ten seconds ride, and waste 3 or 4 minutes to go back and catch another wave.in skimboard you can go as soon as you finish the last wave.Of course that depends on the sea...sometimes it's not good for skimboarding and great for surfing...
i've surfed all my life well since i was 7 and i just got a skimboard and im not faliing on my ace every time, but im not doing what those guys are doing but i am still prety good for 2 skim sessions
Its amazing what skimboarding has become, i remember when i was a kid it was just sliding on an inch of water. Now its insane its awesome to see a sport progress so much in my life time.
That is an awesome little shorebreak. Awesome skills. Anybody who has skimboarded would know how hard that really is.
Sick Skills. 1:08- love the way you form a double with that carve, and then pull into it... So sick..
Props for takin the closeout right in the sand like that. wow.
holy shit, never thought I'd see the day where a skimboarding video has over a million views
That last guy, Ouch! I love how they throw down and get some major speed on their skimboards! That's how they're able to ride those awesome waves. I've gotta practice before i get that good. lol =)
LOVIN THE HD QUALITY
KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!
such an old video ive been watchin it for like 4 yrs
Man watching this makes me so happy :D
im in love with the first wave
It nuts how good some guys are at skim boarding. I can make my way out to a wave and jump, but it seems impossible when your out there to grab the wave back in as easily as these guys do.
When he turns his board sideways while approaching the wave it's called hydro planing and he does it to keep speed up cuz if u slow down ur board just sinks and those slingshot things are awesome
That second jump is sick.
Awesome video . I am about to get my new skimboard next week .
This is one gnarly skim vid!
the banshee bungee is gnarly and practical in the right conditions :P
@mildongo yes there is a big difference, carbon fiber boards, are thicker and usually have a foam core, so its more buoyant, basically carbon fiber boards, fiberglass boards and epoxy boards are just scaled down surfboards, without the fins
awesome skimboarding!
@MrHudDaStud deffinetly go with the Vic Ultra they last way longer for when you really start cuttin into the waves. I used to have it as a first board man. You will do great and really love it.
@boardathome50 Surfing is riding surf and paddling into the waves, skimboarding is skimming in from the beach, turning on the wave and riding back in.
I'm seriously about to drop years of skateboarding to learn how to skimboard and surf. Seriously, this is some wicked shit.
good ones for ppl starting are usually the wood ones that arent really brand name boards. theyre relatively cheap and hold pretty sturdy, but they cant quite do the wave ridin like this; this is with boards that are built better & have special shape and sumtimes a back foot grip
I wish we had this kind of skim in FL...I wanna get barreled on a skimboard!
That guy got his shit rocked at the end!!
Born to be Wasted - 009 sound system. They have that badass song dreamscape also
that pop 360 shuvit at 0.24 is sick!
lmao agreed lol, waves lookin this good THIS close to the beach? HOLYSHIT! heaven for skimboarders...
long live skimboarding!!
@drunkasmycat Yes they do. Most are made out of wood or fiberglass. Both materials float.
Hey i live in indiana and if you get a good day, like when the storms roll in you can have some mighty good skimming.. : D
this video is sikkk!! love it! definetly one of my favorites :)
sick! never expected people to actually wave-ride with a skimboard o.o
Go to cali or mexico, even some parts of aussie have sick shorebreaks. Portugal have some wild shoreys too. Just gotta search!
Some are made from different weaves of fiberglass and different resins. Other are made of different weaves of carbon fiber (very expensive) and of course different types of resin. They all vary, but the cheapest nice fiberglass is about $180
damn, the only times i see waves like that in miami is right before or during a hurricane..jealous
dude got owned at the end haha!
better made sequence than the videos of pros, definitely a better video if not better skimming
Sweet, can't wait to buy a board myself instead of renting all the time.
WOW i never knew it was possible to actually go into deep water like that... will try tomorrow hopefully i dont fail
holy crap they r so good man there good i wish i skimboard like them they r so good!!!!!
@KOOLMEGAKID9559 the chances are very slim. Most boards float and they always make it back to shore. The waves will normally bring them in but don't get discouraged when u can't find ur board for ten minutes because I've had boards get washed back to land after 45 minutes. Just don't worry about it

Thumbs up for not asking for a thumbs down.
@Jiao12 yes it is...extremely fun.Way more then surfing..and i do both.even surfing, its very rare to stay in the same wave for mor then 4 or 5 seconds.and when surfiong, you have to swuim all the way back to the place you were before....skimbording is more pratic =)
Nice skimboardin!!!
i remember when me and my family homemade our boards and went to the river with them
0:09 is sick! as our most of the flips
@Mitcholll they're usingi full sized Ocean Wedges. I'm relatively new to the sport, so I use a Zap wedge but many companies make these style boards for wave riding. There's no way you're going to get a wood board to float on a wave.

Beautiful Shorebreak
dduuddee, u guys r frekin awsome. id like to do that but on the golf coast of FL ive got ripples and crouded beaches
this is like my all time favoirte skim vid i watch it like evryday hahah
I used to skimboard all the time.. I need to get back at it
this isnt skimboarding. this is more surfin.
dude all the surfers were loooking at the last guy in the vid they were all lik woah dude that guy is surfin the shallow waves! he's on a skimboard! lolololololololololololol
@Zaper692 not only that, just like surfboards, skimboards have sizes, check if your skimboard is the right size for you.
p.s. if your skimboard is a woodie, then thats your problem lol.
@MrExhibit321 You kinda need a carbon or E/S glass board to ride bigger waves but a foamie can work for the smaller shorebreak an flatland...
@guitarplaysalex yes they can go about 25 meters if ur a good skimboarder
i myself got a woodiiee and foamiee
but i prefer my wooden board cause it is steady for flat land
@lakaiskate86 its just regular skimboarding, that bungee is just to send people skimming extremely fast
HOLY CRAP THAT'S SO COOL
i saw some sick wrap barrels....nice
these guys r crazy good
@oXcookiecrispXo You have to be moving...fast. you want to start on the skim and then move into the big stuff once you have momentum. @Johnsy97 its wood. i dunno about fiberglass, but USUALLY wood flies
Really good stuff!
wow these kids getting barreled are awesome
press 1 a bunch of times it sounds really cool
I can't wait ill I can do this! Just got my skimboard, can't wait for a moment to go to the beach! (of course, I live in Oklahoma, stupid inland.)
I wish we got a shore brake like that on fistral
WOAHHH it's just like surfing but the skimboards are smaller and have no fins. Didn't know you could do that kind of stuff.
@21hdflat laguna beach california. looks like it is at aliso beach. its the best skimboarding in the U.S. in laguna
You can use almost any foam/polyuarthane/carbon fiber board to ride deeper in the water and help keep you ontop of the water instead of sinking. So yes, depending on your skill level. most of these guys are prob riding carbon boards though.
very true, thats why skimbording sucks a lot of places because the waves aren't strong enough to bring you back to shore
skimboarding owns, Aliso is where it's at
if you like the 360 shovit you should check out grady archbold in his section knee deep in the hoopla. he pulls some crazy shovits and airs
damnnnn! that at 0:23, 0:53, and 1:37 killer video guys!
that looks hella fun
thats dope man good job
it takes timing to surf, when to pop up etc.. but a skimboarders timing is impecible! They are so perfect lol, i supose it is all local stuff though, and everybody knows the break of their local beach,

10th street, aliso, and the wedge in newport and laguna
awsome vid bro.
Ming+FS - Lucky One. Good luck trying to find it though since it doesn't even exist in the artist's discog.
i test the skimboard this summer!!!
"240p we meet again" we meet again
you guys were wrong, it works
@Jiao12 ok so you have 10 a ten seconds ride, and waste 3 or 4 minutes to go back and catch another wave.in skimboard you can go as soon as you finish the last wave.Of course that depends on the sea...sometimes it's not good for skimboarding and great for surfing...
0:53 sick jump Awesome
bwahahhahahaha that caught me off guard at the end lmaoroflol!!!!!

i've surfed all my life well since i was 7 and i just got a skimboard and im not faliing on my ace every time, but im not doing what those guys are doing but i am still prety good for 2 skim sessions
