This video really puts root pruning into focus. You've demonstrated how effective it can be. Thanks for bringing this part of fig growing to our attention, Ben.
Great video which clearly shows the benefits of root pruning! You should consider purchasing a saw zaw / reciprocating saw. They aren’t too expensive and makes root pruning a lot faster.
Great demonstration I really enjoy your videos. I have a Celeste tree and a white Kadota tree. I’ve been thinking about growing my next one in a pot to experiment
hi Ben. I was given a large fig tree in a ceramic pot. the plant has very long branches with very little leaves how would i renew the tree. it has about 5 branches growing from the stem all growing from bottom and are tied together to support tree
Ben, I started some fig cuttings about 2 weeks ago and they are already showing a couple of leaves. Should I pinch them off so the roots can further develop.
Thanks for the Video Ben. I have a Violet de Bordeaux that seems to be struggling. Small fruit and Breba crop was not that great either. I will root prune the hell out of it this winter. Just one question, would you suggest larger pot so there is more room to grow, or we want the root to be restricted a little in order for the fig tree to be productive?
@@benbseattle i just watch ur video on pots. Yeaa, the roots r sensitive with that pot doesn't it? Totally failed. Poor u bro u plant a lot of figs in that kind of pot😅 tq very much for the video bro. God bless u. It's very helpful.
@@benbseattle Ok, I live in Phoenix, Az, very different from where you live. I had to do it there was no other option, because they gave me about 10 potted fig trees from Lowes' 5 gallon, in very good health, but that was 3 weeks ago, the weather changed and rose from 80 F to 105 F and lasted almost 5 continuous days. My Sirian Honey and my Col de Dama Grise started with yellow leaves. Everyone on Facebook What the fig told me that I put a lot of water, ok, 105 is 105F, in Lowes they put it daily and sometimes even twice a day. They had good drainage because I could see the water running, but they only had a hole in the pot, so if it was because I put a lot of water in them I could retain water and that was the problem, so I decided to remove the fig from the pot and I realized the problem, the whole pot was a ball of roots and the upper part was dry and hard, the water ran and kept the plant alive, but the strong heat came and that water was not enough because the water did not enter the entire plant, for the compression of the root, so I did something extreme and crazy, I put the tree in a pot of water and I waved it so that all the earth came out and left pure root, I also watered it with pressure water, there was good root, thick and white, I liked it, I put it with new good soil, guano, slow fertilizer, fish and kelp fertilizer and I removed the yellow leaves that were not many and I put it in the shade and today in the morning it is perfect and healthy as if nothing would have happened besides the pot I made more holes. Thank for you video I learn a lot of you.

that was a great video Ben, we appreciate your time and efforts as well!
Great video ben...I felt for you chopping at it with a shovel. Saw zaw or resipacating saw works wonders.

everytime you repot you should tease the roots a bit. How big of a pot is it in?
5 gallon nursery pot
I would do a light pruning and tease the roots and go to a 10gallon in the winter.
Awesome, Thank you Ben.
Great video. Can you do an update on your jujube 🌳
They are still little tiny buds of fruits at this point.
Ben B. Seattle ...You inspired me to get the tree..I bought a honey jar and sugarcane variety...I will transplant next year....Thanks for your videos.
does Panache ripen for you ?
No it's needs to be woken early from dormancy
Ben, just curious..have u ever try planting figs with air pruning pots? Is it ok to use air pruning pots to figs plant?
I do not like em. Check out my video on pots

Hi ben
Do you have any tip on how to make successful plant from cutting
check out the fig pop method
Someone told me that it can be done in any season. What do you think about that?
Bad idea. Root pruning should be done right before spring unless you have a green house.
