Great video, Ben. Thank you so much for the great content you alwaya put out. Quick question - I've looked around for the tall 10/15 gallon pot you show but haven't found them anywhere. Can you check the bottom of your pot and tell me what brand it is? I would appreciate that immensely.
Hi Ben, thank you so much for this video, I have 200 1-gal pot Figs to repot. I will go to the 7-gal which I have on hand, rather than the 2-gal, which I was planning on using.
I live in a climate, that has low humidity and high summer heat. In Southern California. Here's what I do. 35 gallon squat hard plastic pot, with moss to bottom and sides, then put in a 35 gallon heavy duty grow bag, then the potting soil. And put in automatic irritation probe after planting. About, $35.00 per fig tree invested. Figs do love sun and heat well. Works well.
Hi. Thank you for the posts. When you use self watering pots, do you keep the reservoir full? I do and it feels a little too moist, not sure. Also, how do you handle winter watering with self watering pots?
Ben if you have IKEA in your area, give one of theirs a try. More expensive, but also more durable with water level indicator and...wheels! 5 (ish) gal size that has turned into my new favorite.
Thanks for the tips Ben! Have you ever tried digging out a fig tree out of the ground? I have a few that are 3-4 years old but want to take them with me if I move
Hey Ben, first of all, nice bokeh on this video! :-) Secondly, the last half of this video seems to be just black screen, maybe something glitched out during the RUclips upload process. Finally, (my real question) have you found that those white self-watering pots that you mention as your favorites get brittle in the sun? I have some pots kinda like that and after a few seasons they're so brittle they just crumble whenever I try to move them.
Hey Ben, I just go to the car wash and pick up for free 50 gallon soap barrels and cut them in half. They are only blue and white plastic not very pretty but free. With the weight issue get a 2 wheeler
So if I am hearing you correctly, do my cuttings first in the fig pop U-Line bags to develop roots. Then put into 1 gallon pots so the roots can further develop and some leaf development. Then lastly, up plant the 1 Gallon into a 10 or 15 gallon as the preferred pot for fruiting. Do I have that correct Ben???
Why not using polybags also for the large size you recommend, 10gal. or even 20 if available? As you say, the bigger, the heavier - and the more expensive! Anyone got a source for those polybags in Europe or with cheap shipping from Asia? Only found them off eBay with super expensive shipping from the US. Btw. At what pot size to stop for good and only change soil and prune roots once in a while?
The poly bags wont hold up to larger size if you had to move them, they'll tear easily. I'd stop at 20 or 25 and just root prune. Anything bigger is just to heavy to handle.
@@BenBSeattle thank you! I plan to move in 1 year and then hopefully plant it in the ground at that point. So as long as it won't outgrow it in a year I think I should be fine!
Thanks for the clear instructions. Good fig crop in my garden this year Greetings from North Wales, UK.
Thank you for all you do you are a great teacher!!! GOD bless!!!

I plan on doing so this winter of a couple trees in ground, should be fine. Do it dormant though
Thanks for your information
I have not garden.
What is the appropriate pot size for planting and growing a fig tree up to 5 years old ?

I used the 35mm 1.4 lens for the first time for my video. Thx for the heads up on the black screen. I trimmed it.

how old should a fig tree be before you put it in a 20gallon pot, and how long will a 20 gallon pot hold it for?

Where can buy the golden riverside fig? Do you have it?
How do I maintain figs over the years in their final pot size? Root pruning? changing soil? Fertilising up the old soil etc.?
Hi Ben, do you still prefer and recommend sip's for container figs?
Yes for yrs 2 thru 4 bit not for yrs 1 or anything pass 5yrs. I prefer black pots again
so 10 gallon is enough for a fig tree, right?
Question! I am starting seedling indoor. I want to place my seedlings in a pot to eventually transfer to the ground. Do you have a recommendation?
Fig seedlings?
Start figs from stick cuttings... It is very easy. And you may get fruit the first year
Can you link those self watering pots?
look up misco on google i think walmart and target has em for cheapest
So what about the 5 gallon bucket ?

When do you transplant? When they are dormant? When?
I do most of mine in the spring
Hi Ben , may I know when is the best season to do root pruning? How long do we need to do root pruning, once a year?
Jan-feb here in zone 8b
If I plant my fig tree in a 10 gallon pot, how many years until it needs to be moved to a larger pot?
there's lots of variables but every 3-5 yrs is advisable
