  • A quick video of a seemingly under appreciated Fender amp, probably due to the high price when they came out, this amp can do it all. I borrowed it from a friend in '94 and I've had it ever since.
Though it probably has the best low volume clean tone of any amp in my collection, for me it's sweet spot is on 8 and using the guitar volume as needed.
Loud, heavy and pure tube tone.

When I played on one at Guitar Center (20 yrs ago) and felt that drippy reverb, I just had to get one. Later I got used one.... I'm still not a good enough player to deserve playing this amp, and it's WAY too loud for home use. I've put EL84 tubes in it with Yellow Jacket adapters, and that makes it a bit more fun at home. However, the tremolo doesn't work with the adapters.

I've owned one for years, use it for recording. Great clean tones but cranked tones not so much, just my experience. To play gigs with? Forget it (unless you're "Big Time" with roadies, which I'll never be). Ron Wood and Peter Townsend use them, I'm thinking they have some help. This amp weighs over 70 pounds and is CRAZY loud.

Correct- no master. Just crank it up and let it rip! Thanks for watching.

One of the few amps Fender ever made with 60 watts, IIRC ...

I heard that the early Fender Vibro Kings were problematic because of one of the vacuum tubes which overheat until it was changed to a 6V6 tube. I personally own the rarest Fender Vibro-King ever made. It’s a 2003 Fender custom shop Vibro King. The color is “ Sunshine “ only 9 were ever made. I doubt I’ll part with it for a long time. It comes with full documentation down to the 2 Fender hang tags and owners registration card not even filled out.

A quality tube for the reverb is all that is required.

Well done, nice video. It is handy to know the guitar volume as well.

DDPAV absolutely. I have a bunch of gear, vintage and new and I always wanted one of these back in the 90's. Been looking at videos. Have 2 local ones for sale, an EL84 version with the voltage reduced to that tube, and th er 6v6 version. Thinking of grabbing one.

Just checked and the one I have on permeant loan has 5881's. I've got quite a few amps myself and it absolutely sits at or near the top of my list. It's also durable - it's been in the shop once in 24 years. For a Fender, at least in my case, that may just be a record.....

you borrowed in and had it ever since...funny, I have done that

and i've moved three times, I just pack it up and take it to the new place instead of returning it. If he ever wants it back I'll hit him with storage fees:-)

@@DDPAV it's a great amp I have a 1993- first year they came out. I bought it off a friend a few months ago who i was in a band with in that year. Funny thing the vibrato never work very well haha.

@@KarlAndriuk Irony...... I never understood the love for the vibrato circuit myself- in my 40 years of playing I've used it once but just about every amp I've ever had has it. Cheers!

@fastguitar Been two years since I made this video and I haven't used vibrato on a single project in that time..... Cheers!

@fastguitar The only thing I've had done was fixing an issue with the path to the reverb tank. Once the amp warmed up the volume with drop to virtually nothing. You could still get full signal by plugging into the effects return in back but then you bypassed the reverb section- which is actually something I use all the time on that amp.......
Wish they'd reissue it in tweed- I'd snap that up in a hurry!

Had it's brother the Dual Professional ...got rid of it....quality sound but I like loud cleans like Music man Hi Watt etc...that was 100 watts so this starts breaking up early..

You're the reason why people don't lend gear to their 'friends' much ....

    • @DDPAV
      @DDPAV  5 лет назад +7

Well to be totally honest I see him once a week for cigars and I've asked him numerous times if he wanted it back and he always says no. The reason why I originally got it was because he was trying to hide some gear from his wife- she wanted him to start selling some of his stuff because it was taking over their house. Also have his Gibson es-135 which gets used on just about every CD that comes out of my studio. So in reality if I didn't "borrow it" he would have sold it. And that would be a guitarist nightmare.......

because you didn't try it! one of the best fender guitar amp ... this video is not is not revealing the qualities of this amp, try one few hours and you'll understand ... there's no need for distortion or overdrive with this amp !! the Fat mode sprinkles a max with an excellent accurate and dynamic sound!!

Mine sounds a million times better than this - Blow the windows out on vol 4 too. Not at great example of a VK - Maybe this requires a tune up !

Might be the worst sounding example of this amp. Something’s wrong…
