- Today we have a killer combination of more modern Fender, a Limited Edition 2014 Fender Custom Shop '56 Relic Strat from the 'Time Machine' series, in the 'Nocaster' finish, and an early 90s Fender Vibro King! This guitar is everything you could want in a modern Strat, from the look and feel, to the body resonance and perfect Strat sound. Of course, the setup wouldn't be complete without the excellent Vibro King, which is a unique 3x10 combo with fantastic tube reverb, tremolo, and general tone. We happened to have Aaron Hiebert stop by the other day so we preemptively had him demo this rig as well, and he was blown away by both pieces!
For more information on the guitar and amp, please give us a call as they just landed in the shop!
Music: The Hollers "Something Real" (Instrumental)
Holy Smokes That got awesome tone Man !Go Aaron !
Indeed one of the best combinations we have heard this year, thanks to the player exploiting both instruments.
That guitar, tone and playing - brilliant
Aaron can rip! love his strat demos
Inspired demo! Love when he plays.
Killer demo, as always.
Thanks for sharing.
man, Stevie would be proud of the cover of couldn't stand the weather!!🤘🏼
VibroKings are 60 watts. And wonderful, placing them right smack in the middle of a Super Reverb and a Twin Reverb. And this was one gorgeous Stratocaster.
Wouldn't be very hard to get lost for quite a while in that rig. Days would drift by in bliss........
Well said
OMG that was an awesome demo! I had to send back a 1998 Fender Video-King 3x10 because UPS managed to smash it up. The amp was in a 3/8" thick flight case to boot. Still looking ....
Great playing!! Sounds amazing!!
One of the best amps Fender ever made Love that guitar too Prefer alder though A light piece of dried out alder is perfect Good stuff 👍
I had a choice of buying a Vibro King in the 90s or lend my wife to be some money to pay off her debts. Didn't get the amp, got the woman. I should of bought the amp, that damn woman put me in debt for 10 years!
That suxx I got the Tonemaster instead
lmao
It's rated 60w @ 2 ohm load, which is when the extension cab is connected. Stand-alone it is a 2.66 ohm load which would make the power delivered about 45 watts.
Yeah, 45, 46, whatever it takes.
Did you play that Strat right into the amp? Mine doesnt crank up in this amp knob positions. Thanks for your response!
That sounds stupidly insane. I will never afford such tone.
In '98 I bought an ORIGINAL super clean Vibro King for $650 from a pizza delivery customer who had just inherited it and an early 60's Fender Precision bass. He wanted to keep the bass.
Is that just the amp or there is an overdrive pedal somewhere 🤔 ?
I don't know, I'm damn happy with my 93 deluxe plus Strat. 3 color L Sensors F/ F Rose bridge w/ Hipshot Tremsetter installed in 96. Set to whammy up and down I haven't touched it since. My amp is a bought used 85 Boogie S O B. Every option on this amp, W and Wicker, reverb instead of mids, 12L speaker, 60/100 watts. Was able to p/u a used road case cheap. Unfortunately this makes this over 100 lbs.
Fender custom shop are 10x better than any other guitar brand ever for relic jobs... no name dropping of any sort. !!!
If you love this sound then check out Albert Cummings music. He plays his custom shop strat through a Vibro King and his sound is to die for. Seen him live several times and have all his albums. Great player, singer, with killer tone.
Nice tones although it doesn't seem to have the weight behind it. It does have some nice midrange in there and not super scooped like a blackface amp. Not sure the lighter less bass more airier strat tone here is because of the 3x10 config or just the guitar being so light? Anyone? I'm curious. I do like the tone a lot though. Probably just the nature of the amp.
This color 😍
Maybe Aaron can buy this one!
Didn’t the VK have a tweak to the reverb circuit at or about the time of the change from blonde to black Tolex?
Really early VKs had an EL-84 in the reverb circuit. This was changed to a 6V6 pretty quickly. This all happened during the blonde VK era.
@@DeanAlexanderCoulter Thanks, Dean. Easy to look for that change. I'd love a blonde/oxblood VK.
@@DeanAlexanderCoulter It's a fantastic amp, no doubt, and a real eye-opener when it came out. I remember it well. Do you know through all these years if there have been changes other than the reverb circuit tube? I know speakers came and went. I'd hate to think it was cheapened or adversely tinkered with. I'd go for the original blonde version anyway.
The quality of the EL84 they used couldn't stand up but a rugged military tube will work fine.
I thought they were 60 watts?
At 2:44 - VKs are 60W RMS, not 35. 🙏🏼🌱
At a 2 ohm load. Without the extension cab it is a 2.66 ohm load, so about 45 watts delivered.
Are the 90’s vibro kings hand wired Ptp?
Yes, and afaik they were all hand wired, regardless of year.
Yes
Unfortunately Fender didn't do any reverse engineering work in the "replica" Strats, same as Gibson also didn't do any either. ALL the steel parts on vintage Strats were much softer steel alloys of THOSE TIMES. So you can make steel saddles and springs and plate and tremolo block look "old" but they won't SOUND like original Strat hardware. Same for the magnet wire in the pickups, there is no match in the sound of the magnet wire using modern magnet wire. Basically you got something that won't sound like an original. I really don't understand why these big corporations are so clueless. Beating up a guitar should make them worth less, otherwise they are just "painted ladies."
Oh my
Already sold?!
I bought it...
👍🏼
Its not 35 w but 60 w .they sound fantastic
At a 2 ohm load. Without the extension cab it is a 2.66 ohm load, so about 45 watts delivered.
Came here to say 60
Mmmmm... Damn😎
Back the guitar volume pot off a notch
Yep not a hum bucker amp. If you what to hear what it can really do listen to Pete Townsend.
Just sold a similar Strat. Worst neck in the history of ever. The second it sees a wee bit of dryness, boom frets pop. Absolutely not worth the money. Happy to have sent the problem somewhere else.
