Linus, you always convince me to buy the latest toys. Here I said I wasn't planning to upgrade, now I'm getting ready for a new build :)
Oh boy. That's a killer processor from everywhere I've seen. I'm seriously contemplating this myself as i'm running Sandy Bridge 2600k right now. I need to upgrade to something that will be a video encoding beast. And so far, this looks like the one to get.
Tatiana Castro Barrantes
Holly $1k cpu..
***** Passive advertising...if someone says too many good things they are a kiss ass bought out by the company for free marketing. If one talk like linus its "passive" what the fuck do you want dude? If the product is good why the fuck shouldnt he speak highly of it. Let me guess ure an amd fanboy who likes his temperatures way to high.
That is a beast processor but I'm still good with my old trusty 2500k @4.6ghz.
Have had this CPU since it came out now running i7-5960x with a rtx 3080 cpu is still a monster
I've been running it till a week ago.
Its a great cpu. Ringbus with a ton of cache, this thing overclocked at 4.5GHZ is just as fast as a 5600X
@@lewisnerme too 😆 to be fair my other system had the 18 core but I did just get this one in a build I bought.
2.5 years after this amd made it mainstream
2 extra years later you can find 8 core AMD laptops that are thermally manageable and not too expensive
@@ariad7452 the what
And it was still slower then the 5960x xD even the 3700x was slower what an accomplishment.
Yet, it's overpriced and not a mid-range CPU.
@@AlfaPro1337 i mean i was talking about the 3700x (or 2700x?) back then.
The 5800x and 5600x are both overpriced pieces of shit indeed.
Eight cores, 64 GB RAM. Wow now I can play Solitare even more smoothly. Great Job Intel!
Where's your CPU lmao
@@adamjensen_2027 your replying to a 7 year old comment and the cpu has eight cores
I think mark here and all the other AMD fangirls need to get off their high horse. They think they are some special being cause they quite possibly own a AMD cpu that has more than 8 core. Oh wow!!!! You sure have something amazing there!! Real groundbreaking technology. Can we be friends? LMAO
In 2020 still beast when looking a benchmarks.. 😮😮👍👍👍
I would like to know if DDR4 is that much of an inprovement for gamers. I am also interested in the 5820k and the max clock speed you can reach with air and water cooling.
The bandwidth increase would worthless to gamers according to those people.
Google is your friend. No, no improvement for you. Linus' chip is just one among many, one sample size, possible a cherry-picked one. The only way to be sure is to assemble a chart of overclocks. JJ says we can always expect 4ghz+. My guess is we're not going to hit above 4.5ghz average OC.
***** BF4 could utilize higher speed ram. Find the testing. 1866-2133 ddr3 is the sweet spot to get the most frames.
You'll get
if ur a gamer , don't even waste 800+ euros on a X99 mobo , DDR4 + a new cpu. if you already have one of the 3th or 4rth gen I7's
I would love to see a 5820k review! It's probably the most realistic buy for many people, and therefore the review would be the most useful.
I couldn't agree more
That processor runs Dangerous Dave 1 surprisingly well on my newest build. Somewhat laggy while playing Lemmings 2, though.
I'd like to see benchmarks of cities skylines with this beast.
I really wish I knew what the words meant that were coming from this guys mouth :(
stop taking the "opiateofthemasses" and your brain will function considerably better.
i understood everything he said.
1. It was a joke.
2. The name is in reference to a quote, and has nothing to do with drugs....sooo...nice try?
+trillriff-axegrinder i can almost smell the neckbeard sweat
+opiateofthemasses Some of the stuff is just marketing crap from the manufacturers.. For instance, what on earth is an 'audio grade capacitor'?
go to school or get a book m8,Neva too late
I'm actually getting scared watching you waving the CPU around like that :O Don't drop it!!
Nah man, dropping things is Linus' shtick.
its only a thousand dollar cpu. I held one like its nothing at one point, trying to find a place to put it but ended up waving it around
Never regretted getting the 5960x for a moment, took minutes to get 4.6ghz out of it and it really is a beast.
Nonconformist 02 yeah but no one would buy this chip and leave it at 3ghz.
for gaming you didnt need a 5960x yet. and i'm sorry to hear you wasted all that money on 3 titan x's :)
+john tucker Don't be sorry because i'm not in fact I plan to get a fourth GTX Titan X :)
pointless but if thats what you want :P
+john tucker plot twist. he already have 3 gtx titan x
I have a first gen i5 750 @ 4Ghz, still no problem with games.
4GHz is a good overclock on that thing. it is still really good, updating at skylake would be a great option, no need to update ealier.
I have one too(it's actually 760, but at 4GHz it's exactly the same) and it's pretty good considering how old it is. I will be upgrading to 4690k very soon, but mostly because it would bottleneck a much faster GPU I'm planning to get(maybe GTX870 if it gets unveiled soon) and because I need real Intel USB3 and SATA3
nj0fra I just got my 4690K today! It. Is. AMAZING!
nj0fra Isn't it suppose to be the 900 series, not 800?
By James TV well the current ones are the 700 series so it would be logical that they would make it the 800 series next :)
I WAS PROMISED A WATER COOLED ROOM !!! ... still waiting patiently
Ur channel name, good call lol
DDR3 ended with the 5960X, DDR4 ends with 5950X
I didn't get it at first 😂 Edit: you talking about r9 5950x, right?
@@Sta1kERR Core i7 5960X and Ryzen 9 5950X
Anyone else always think about this chip when people mention the Ryzen 5950x?
I think a deep dive of the 5820k would be awesome, seeing as it's the most (and for many only) affordable enthusiast grade processor from Intel. The 3820 and 4820k were basically pointless and I would love to see the performance gain in synthetic benchmarks as well as other non-gaming related tasks vs. both the predecessor (4820k) and Intel's Z97 line up.
You should dive into the performance of the 5820K a little more. I got one today, and managed to bring it up to 4.6 GHz and I have never overclocked a CPU before. I think that it's a really good chip for gaming and multitasking.
It's not a good chip for gaming at all - It's a good chip for serious multitasking or render tasks, that also happens to be more than gaming will ever demand.
5820k is the cpu im most interested in out of the three nice to see you like it.
Mansen It is good for that kind of stuff, but it's also a great chip for gaming. Once DX12 comes out with its better multithreading capabilities, then some games should see some performance improvement. It should also last me quite a bit of time because of the amount of power that this thing has.
***** It's not as good as a 4790K/4690K for gaming. But the difference in performance is miniscule so yeah I guess haha :p
Kamyar Ameri The Core i7 4790K is not that much less than the 5820K, so I thought "why the hell not?" I also do some video transcoding every once in a while, and it excels at that.
give us a review of the Asus Rampage V Extreme and i7 5930K
Its crazy because when these CPUs came out and it was the END of ddr3 days, it was like holy crap. Now I can get an AMD cpu in a laptop that outperforms all of these. I never thought in 100 years that would ever be real until now.
Hearing a complaint about not having PS/2 ports really shows the age of this video. But, it's still a good review of this cpu. This is a great budget cpu for the money.
Not really, the motherboards are very expensive
it is if you buy official brands yes. Chinese x99 lga 2011 boards can go as cheap as 60usd with a xeon e5 2680 v4 and 16gb ddr4 ECC ram sometimes@@Fantastika
@@NoseMain yes, but if you're buying a 5960x, you really wanna overclock it and I'm not sure how well do those ali boards handle that
yeah, they only get to boost speed usually (intel turbo speed). There are some few that allow overclocking but I wouldn't go with those tbh@@Fantastika
i literally just build a PC (2 months ago) and now there's all this new stuff coming out.
My PC specs:
i5 4570
GTX760 MSI 2GB TF
AsRock z97 pro 3
8GB G.Skill RipJaws X
XFX PRO 650 W Core Edition
Is there a need to upgrade soon or am I going to be fine for a few more years?
No need to upgrade, and dont be sad either, those CPUs, Mobos and the DDR4 memory is extremly expensive. The 5960X proberbly dont cost much less, if less, than your current PC
Don't upgrade. This is a perfect example of the PC gaming money trap
keep that rig, you have no reason to upgrade now. that is unless intel just gives you the i7 5960x along with the motherboard and ram for free and no strings attached.
i recently bought a gtx 760 and i kinda wish i had bought the 770, but there is no way i would recommend anything less powerful.
Dont upgrade u fkin idiot
4790K all the way for gaming
4690k! (I own a 4790k)
NOT UNLESS YOU OVERCLOCK IT!
berzu21 i5 will be at heavy load also games start benefit from 8 threads
i7 5960x is still the best although you shouldn't buy it though if u already have a good CPU like myself i7 3960x.
*****
Which games will? Not trying to be a douche. Genuinely interested if you know about some.
you have a good processor yourself, impressive talking-speed!
I really liked when you actually showed the games played while bench marking, hope you'll begin doing that again in the future!
Hey Linus,
Just watched the video post explaining your story about becoming a entrepreneur and starting up your own company. What a courageous thing to do, especially when there is no "fail safe" way of knowing if it is going to take off or plummet. The time you invested and money, six years of savings, sounds like it's paying off for you. Kudos!
To answer your question in this video, I'd like you to compare DDR3 to DDR4. My knowledge is quite vague when it comes to memory technology. Possibly even suggest, in your opinion, possible revisions to DDR4 as time passes on with the newly released tech. Hopefully lots of other subscribers and viewers of yours have a similar question as to not waste your time recording, editing and uploading a video on the given subject matter.
To your growing success,
Andrew.
What I'd love to see is the performance difference between the 5820k and 5930k aside from the pcie lanes. I need to know if I can save a few bucks going with the lower end cpu option.
***** That's pretty much what I was thinking, plus that'll save me some money I can throw else where in the system. Thanks!
***** That's not a huge concern. I'm definitely going to overclock it a bit, but its going to be a gaming and video rendering rig more than anything so I think it will handle that fine.
*****
Even then there are people doing 4 Way on Z97 with 16 lanes, 28 lanes is more than enough for 4 GPUs.
Well the most I would every really need is two way sli and that would be overkill more than likely for anything is throw at it.
*****
pci-e 2.0 x8 is enough for any single gpu card.
just over a year and ddr4 has basically halved in prices.
it cost like $70 now for 16gb
i know i just bought some like a week ago
Still rocking this CPU with a 4090FE lol. It just keeps going 👀
Old Intel CPUs hold up surprisingly well
@@BGTech1 yep, can still play Starfield at like 100fps 4K ultra with frame gen, so can't complain, considering how garbage the game runs 😂 (I tried it off a friend's acc, I wouldn't buy it otherwise. He can't play it on his 7700K, the quad core is just not enough to make it playable, despite being a newer chip!).
I'd love to see a comparison between the 3 new processors.
is this a good processor? the intel core i9 20170k 8ghz?
I could buy 3 4790K's for one 5960X.
6:20 YES! MY COUNTRY IS THERE COSTA RICA ;D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But what puts the 5960X above the 5930k? Yes, it has more cores, but it seems as if the utilization of them simply isn't significant enough to justify being $500-600 more than going with just oen step lower, the 5930k. From other benchmarks I have seen, even doing things such as rendering videos solely using the CPU, compressing, media encoding, etc, between the 5930k and 5960X, there's only a very margin of improvement.
It's very significant in multi-threaded work. It's essentially a workstation CPU that's unlocked for enthusiasts. So unless you're doing workstation work, you're far better off with the higher clocker 6 core variant for best bang for buck.
Video encoding is becoming for GPU accelerated, so while more cores are useful they're not so much anymore. For Cinema 4D and other applications the CPU is still supreme, and so are the more cores. SO much so that in some cases a CPU can bottleneck GPU's so much, a 6870 can match a 780 Ti if you're not careful
It never is worth it, they just make it because they know the rich dumb guys will buy the "X-editions" to have the most expensive option.
For gaming - nothing. For content creation - everything.
MrGameControler Often the Xeon equivalent is even cheaper, and compatible with the consumer motherboard when it comes to the "Extreme Edition".
I understand that at the root, the 5960X is simply better. I'm wondering if, for the small performance increase above the 5930k, how are they trying, if at all, to make it a viable option? It is *not* ~40% better than the 5930k. Are they simply shooting for a much better margin of profit on it? And if so, why *not* bump up the price of the 5930k? I understand that they need, and of course want, a profit. They're a company. But, with their top-tier chips, I always see them put them in an over-the-moon price spectrum. To the point where, I mostly see people roll with second-best, or what would be the 5930k. If they put the chip at ~$850-$950, I would imagine a lot more people would say "Hey, it's a better chip, and while it's still more expensive, it's *within reach*!" It would make it more attractive.
I have currently i7-920 since 2010 and still going strong
Dear Linus which video compression software do you use?Your videos are the only one I can watch in high quality.
Sorry for the bad English.
Hey Linus I'm thinking of purchasing the I7-5820k with a MSI X99S will this perform well for a gamer with a GTX 770 Superclocked?
It's overkill but if you're paying a lot for future proofing. It'll Last for many years. Also wait for the gtx900 series
h34dsh0tgaming The GTX 900 series is not that much better than the 700 series since it is NOT an successor to the GK110 gpu. It is an successor to the gk104 gpu. It basicly refreshes the GTX 600 series. If you really want an big performance bump you should wait for the GTX 1000 Pascal series with an extremly improved bandwith due to stacked Ram etc. Those cards are expected for 2016.
don't get it yet. wait a while for the price to come down and then get it (motherboard and ram). the ram is in low volume and ddr4 is not compatible with ddr3 and vice versa, the price of the cpu won't go down for a while so try to save as much on the mother board
Waste of money. DDR4 is ridiculously expensive. Get a 4690K and the best card you can get with your money. An i7 is not needed for a gamer.
Adding another 770 will get you more performance in games than blowing money on DDR4, X99 mobo, and a new 2011-3 socket cpu.
latest intel vs latest amd
There's no point, AMD is great price for performance, but in raw benchmarks they're at least 2 years behind Intel:
www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
GenXRanter tis true.
Especially with that 8320e bull
GenXRanter Why does nobody spend more time comparing AMD's parts to Intel Pentium Aanniversaryedition, lol.
GenXRanter
counting Xeons above AMD CPUs is kinda unfair as Xeons are made for a totally diffenret propuse than most AMD CPUs / AMD APUs with more cores and saddly lower speeds than the i5 / i7 lines of intels
But if you look at it all the intel CPUs above the highest one in the PassMark list for the AMD FX-9590 Eight-Core which ranked highest for all the AMD CPUs the Intel chip is at least x2 if not x3 the price for the majority of them with a few i7s with a reasonable price to it for the preformance increase but the majority of them are Xeons and really who has a Xeon CPU who is not on a server?
yumri4 Friendly advice: Please cut down on the run-on sentences. It's challenging for me to read your paragraph (especially since I'm already sleep deprived).
We don't compare AMD CPUs to Xeons, they are nowhere even close in price. I think between the Pentium Anniversary Edition, i5/i7 DC parts, and the $380 Hexacore, AMD is pretty pinned down by Intel across all price points.
Pentium 4 for the win!1!!!1!11!
i got hip to linus a few days ago and already watched 100's of his videos...u do great work bro..keep it up and thank u...someday when i get out of college ill hopefully have a job to afford this stuff

Haha, taking advice from PKA? Great vid.
Can I use toothpaste instead of thermal paste?
If you can use the thermal paste for brushing your teeth then yes...
I'm joking, no you can't obviously :D
Maybe you can... lol.
You can. Won't make big differences in thermals either, it is just questionable how fast toothpaste will dry out. I've heard of people using it for half a year and even tried it myself on an older machine, didn't encounter any issues whatsoever.
So there is no reason not to do it.
Try Fishpaste. If your CPU overheats it makes the room smell like rotting tuna.
There was actually a test by tomshardware that had toothpaste and denture adhesive with different thermal pastes :D
#ButCanItRunMineCraft?
yes, 2000 fps.
The i5 4690k can achieve that so maybe more :o
ErickRamos1008 I woulda thought it would probably hit the 2600 FPS cap and hold there... lol
I think that FPS cap was removed because I saw a video that some guy hit 4k fps.
ErickRamos1008 possibly... I haven't seen above 1200 on my system though, so I can't be too sure about that... although the FPS limiter having an "unlimited" option might have something to do with it...
Why does Intel ghetto-label their CPU's with Sharpies? It looks cool, but, isn't it a bit dangerous? :D
They don't. Linus did it, and it's just a layer, so it isn't dangerous.
clanshadow2 Oh, okay. But why would he label it?
Zabby I said it's just a layer of metal, not the inside of the CPU.
clanshadow2 You don't seem to understand what I'm asking. What I'm asking is, why would he write on the the CPU?
Zabby Because they can look the same.
Decided to do my first build with the 5930k slowly getting the parts together. Looking forward to posting a build log on the forums :)
I've noticed most people when talking about "content creation," they're just talking about video and graphical work. What I'd really love to see this processor tested with is Pro Audio. The new platform has been a big deal for the audio world especially with the addition of Thunderbolt support, because many high end AD/DA converters are going the Thunderbolt route now. Seeing how many tracks/intense audio plugins this thing can handle would be amazing.
but will it run minecraft?
I still like my i7 4790k :(

Ok, but I have said that OTHERS will post hate comments about that, not me.
All content you mentioned are required! Especially the 5820k review. Good luck!
Please do a video on the 5820 cpu. I want to see how it compares to the 4790k.
real world difference between ddr3 and ddr4
There is no "real world" difference... higher frequency, higher latency, more bandwidth for memory hungry programs. Considering you asked the question, DDR4 will not benefit you.
gdfschimpi007 shouldnt there be benefits with programs that rely more on speed than latency
gdfschimpi007
Not really higher latency per se. Current DDR4 kits are about on par with average DDR3 kits like DDR3-1600 CL9. It's only things like DDR3-2400 CL10 that DDR4 can't compete with on latency (yes, 2400 CL10 is lower latency than 1600 CL9).
it's kinda like when ddr3 came out it gave a little improvement at a higher cost but eventually the prices went down :)
so you take the cas latency and divide by frequency and the lower number is better at least that ive been hearing
AMD....
AMD...

LMAO outdated by 150$ CPUs now, Thanks 🅰️Ⓜ️D
kly plays no
And which 150$ CPU would that be?
you wish
TheCeilingFanCollectorHD would be the 2700 or 1800X would be that CPU
TheCeilingFanCollectorHD The $150 CPU that matches 5960X in 2020 would be 1700X/1800X/2700 in 2020. I assuming it’s $150 USD.
I would like to see a review of the new I7 5930k, running with 3way sli on 3x1440p screens. I want to see all of those 40 lanes at work running 3 970 or 980. The main goal is to see how well it handles running nvidia surround with some g-sync monitors. It would be good to see if the cpu can really work with all those lanes fired up.
bought the 5930k originally returned for the 5820k at microcenter for $299.99 what a better decision. I don't plan to run a multiple video card setup so the extra PCIE lanes were useless
Pfff, I've been rockin an 8-core AMD for over a year now.
It's not a true 8 core. It's 4 modules with 2 cores each and has low single threaded performance.
And the modules share same resources. Anyways, AMD have many weak cores, Intel have less cores but better. Even in multitasking Intel CPUs will outperform AMD. But for the prices AMD are very good for low budget PCs.
gdfschimpi007 There's not definition of what is a core and honestly AMDs FX was a flop. I'm waiting from them to release a complete new architecture(est. 2016 by news reports).
Laurentiu D Yeah, but when you compare an AMD and INtel CPU with the same/similar price, the AMD one is better, at least I know this is true when it comes to the i3s and i5s. Of course it depends on what you need it for. But AMD cpu's arent completely useless is what i'm trying to say :)
undeadkillers New architecture means squat when you're comparing what by this time next year, will be 14nm Vs 32nm. Even now AMD need an 8 core 220W CPU just to compete with a 4 core sub-100W Intel chip. By 2016, AMD will be irrelevant in the desktop market. Intel's roadmap shows Cannonlake (10nm) could be in production sometime in 2016.
This didn’t age well.
Why
@@mu.si.ka_6929 because AMD is now selling 16 core 32 thread monsters for $549….
@@xsillycarnifex lmao yes, right right.
Actually it did. I am still using mine @4.2ghz paired with a 3080rtx and dont feel the pressure to get a new one. 2k gaming and oculus wireless vr at max settings. This still handles everything thrown at it. 8 years and still everything at max.
its aged really well, i buy this chip for 100$ used and it can run at 4.5ghz, beast for everything especially for this price
Yeah....... bla bla 20 bla da bla bla chache bla bla more than 4 cores bla da bla bla but can it run minecraft?
No. It also won't run Minesweeper. What a shit PC.
Damn, those extreme monster PCs can't even run Freddy Fish what the heck??????
Its the only processor that will, go spend all your lemonade stand money on it
idiot fuck
ZeroOreos1 console kiddies.
3:27 "oh it's expensive" I just listened to that like 5 times.
I personally would love to see an in depth review of the 5820k as well as a real world performance comparison between ddr4 and ddr3.
LMFAO I will spend more hours at work to pay for this shit then the damn thing will even last. $1000 for a cpu lol I'll just buy a car instead.
Yeah a 1989 Toyota Corolla
You can do better than that. I said car, not Mercedes Benz.
So a 1995 Toyota Corolla
Is there a point you're getting at?
Waisting your time?
This is unimpressive.
A thousand for an 8 core that only goes up to 4.35 ghz? A AMD 8 core starts at 4, 4.2 turbo. I hear that a 8350 can go up to something like 8 ghz... nonetheless, it's this cpu (I core Intel) sucks. Also the thing glitched so I can't see what I'm writing.. stupid phone
8 core Intel cpu sucks*
No 8350 has 8cores 8 threads while 5960x has 8 cores 16 threads
THERES A DIFFERNCE
Also btw the 8350 is based on the 32nm process so the clock rates are usually high since it is easy to overclock
Wow. I didn't think youtube comments could hurt my brain this much.
*facepalm
As far as your content goes do everything you said and do some more software reviews and how to videos. Like which software is the best for ripping blu rays and dvd and while keeping the menu intact. I realize there are other videos out there on how to do this but your input would be valued.
I remember being excited as hell when I got my i7 3770k. Don't plan on upgrading for at least another year or two.
Definitely tackle these chips from the content creator's perspective. I snagged the G3258 for my gaming rig after your recommendation (it's lovely btw) but my triple-core 455 Rana on my Lightroom Rig still has me waiting around a bit while things export. It does okay for what I'm doing, but I'd rather get away from my desk more often.
I have an AMD Ryzen 3900XT.
Haha, Linus at the end (thinking):
"Nailed it!", walks away.. :P
I would love to see you guys test these processors in more creative ways such as content creation, or in ludicus ways no one in the real world would ever use them for. Love the overkill builds, and would love to see them put to use for like "we made a computer with no moving parts that runs off a battery pack, integrated into a jacket to keep you warm in the winter." You can call it "why would you build this?" Or showcase other similarly ridiculous projects found on the web

I think you should compare between low-end Haswell-E (no-OC/OC) and Intel Core i7-4790K what should somebody buy...
I'm still using an i7 930 on the 1366 socket mobo,Going strong for almost 5 years now :D
I came here after watching WAN show of 30th Jan 2021, wanted know just what kind of CPU Luke is still using
Im getting ready to completely rebuild my Blackbird 002. Id like to see you focus a build on how to extract the most productivity for users that focus on content-creation instead of gaming. We're talking users that focus most of their time working in Adobe/Avid/Vegas platforms that focus on graphic design/video editing and general multi-tasking where you have 5-8 apps open at once. Which components and builds plow through video rendering and complex Photoshop renders the fastest. My PC is a work tool not a play tool so a focus in this direction would be greatly appreciated, especially considering the new Intel chips, motherboards, and other hardware that's come out in the last 12 months. Perhaps a build list for the bang/buck crowd, and then a balls-to-the-wall spec list demo. Thanks.
Comprehensive OC guide for the new platform will be appreciated too!
still my i7 4960x rocks...i think i can pull of till year 2017 with this processor
please do a comparison of base and overclocking the 5960x, 5930k, and 5820k...particularly with an analysis of the drop-off from 40 lanes to 28, and include multi-gpu setups (2-way sli gtx 780ti, for example) -- as well, be the first to truly look into, test, and explain the m.2 features (include best pcie 3.0 m.2 x4 ssd's) - you briefly mention and show the m.2 add-on card w/ a plextor ssd (b+m key)...but you also mention that it's the same speed as sata express (e.g. 10Gb/s)...i think you misspoke there, or at least you need to clarify -- asus themselves are saying that it's a max of 32Gb/s -- some of us want to know if the regular (or add-on card) m.2 pcie 3.0 x4 lane (m key) can truly reach the 32Gb/s that asus claims, and if it would make a better boot drive - thanks
Yes, DDR3 vs DDR4 for sure! Would love an in-depth comparison. I know prices wouldn't come down for DDR4 for a while, but would like to see if it would even be worth it to start thinking about DDR4 supporting mobo's for future build possibilities.
DDR3 vs. DDR4. Talk about speed improvements, possible early adopters problems, whether overall it still needs to mature before becoming popular, or if the prices just need to drop.
Need a thorough breakdown of 5820k vs 5930k especially when OC'ed. I'm surprised you only had the extreme cpu in this review, i was expecting lots more and sooner!
I'm a vfx creating guy and I'm in the process of building a monster rig that's going to give me the best performance geared towards rendering, composting, etc. Etc. So I'm excited to see more on the 5th Gen line up because if intel could truly deliver a better performance chip then there xeon line up, for my purposes at least . Thanks linus devoted fan.
LinusTechTips You asked what thing you wanted us to suggest for testing. Would like a "E5-1660v3" (or 1650v3 equivalent) test when they come out for 2011-3, as I plan for a 2011-3 with ECC support(I do some bulk computation stuff) and that 125 base Asus OC board, sounds like free speed on a Xeon with locked multiplier.
As for this video or videos like it, it would be great as well if you could include the Xeon 2697v2 you talked about in the video on the actual graphs/bar-charts with the other CPUs in a test, but I'm sure you just forgot to put it on there (for the tests it can actually run that is).
Further tests I would love to see in the future:
- "Going big" Ramdisks and what it would do to a processor when you do heavy disk operations. Especially like a 4790K vs 5960x with normally-done-on-disk work done in Ramdisk in a 24GB RAMdisk fx, like video rendering etc. Maybe even a DB test that can then back itself up to a SSD every minute with incremental backup ofc.
- Longevity tests of OC. Would be cool if you guys could OC 2-3 of the same CPU and let em run 24-7 and see when they physically die.
- Have every OC test include a Watt measurement bar-chart so we can see the watt-usage which can be a major issue for people in the real world. Also for gfx cards. Watts matter.
- Everytime you guys test a Xeon system, could you also include a fairness test against an equally priced Opteron system? That would be nice, just to see how far an Opteron is actually behind if at all when measuring $ for $.
Thanks for producing the best PC based show on YT.
Great video as always. Do a DDR4 vs. DDR3 tests to get some realistic comparisons between the two.
Definitely make a video showcasing the i7-5820K and its overclocking ability and real world capabilities. Also, DDR3 vs DDR4 would be great as well!
Would be really interested to see a price/performance comparison between going with a 5820k/x99 platform vs going 4790k/z97. Is there reason to think the initial investment would be worth it in the long run over the consumer option? For someone like me, who has a very mixed usage pattern, would 6 cores even make enough of a difference day-to-day to justify a more expensive platform? It's super exciting to see a beastly 6-core option this affordable, and I can't wait to see what they have to say about it.
Just built my first computer (as in the first computer I actually parted out and built with my own hands) and got the 4790K thinking it was so hot. Then I heard about this and couldn't believe I didn't just wait a couple months for a massively superior processor. Then I saw the $1k price tag...yeah, I'm happy with my $340 Devil's Canyon.
YES YES YES i7-5820K considering buying one
I have this i running all games 4k max settings HDR Edit: i for got to say NO OC on chip GPU or ram
I asked Paul's Hardware to consider a different method as to applying thermal paste to the 5960x, because cores are situated on the outside of the cache. The pea in the center will not spread to the cores correctly in my opinion. Have you guys considered this as well? BTW, Paul has yet to respond and he has way fewer comments from his last video.
i7-920, Still working today :D (upgrading soon though.). (EVGA X58 3SLI, 12 GB GSkill Sniper, EVGA GTX570, H100i and Crucial M4).
I'd love some more info on the real world diferences between DDR4 and DDR3. Awesome content as always guys, keep it up.
So now its time for a new ultimate video editor build featuring all the new goodies including taking advantage of thunderbolt and maybe showing what you'd gain or give up in selecting the 6 or 8 core config.
Haaaaaaaaa! this intro song sounds like a juicer commercial
I like that they shield the audio components on the board, but then they go and put the connections right next to the Wi-Fi antennas. C'mon man.
I'd like you to show us everything you can show us about the i7 5xxx line up. How far you can push them OC wise and benchmarks please.
I'd like to see a comparison between DDR3 and DDR4.
You guys should do all! EVERYTHING!
Me, at 06:10.. "What is the meaning of life?".........."Am I thirsty? I feel thirsty. I think I'm thirsty. Nah I'm not thirsty. I feel sooo thirsty right now.".
Can you do a review on the refreshed FX series and do a AMD vs Intel to see if AMD made any progress on their lineup?
I'd like to see a little of everything! I am a casual gamer/ enthusiast. I don't do a lot of computer intensive work but love upgrading and building computers.
