Hey Chris, glad to see you open your RUclips channel! I Can tell you from experience that the last route is very effective. I’ve done this twice, where I get any position at the company and work my way up. You get to build great relationships along the way and all you have to do is show that you’re a great employee and bring value.
Thanks for your video, as I am in of same situation in so many ways, shy and introvert but can express myself through words. Being a former teacher and new to this field after a career break , it is very difficult to approach for advice. I started socializing in Linkedin by responding different articles/posts but rarely got any comments. I started posting the article 1 day ago so far nobody seems to have time to read it and off course I have very few connections. I understand that it is very difficult to reply everybody when experienced BA/DA have so many followers. Your situation kind of inspires me to continue doing that no matter if I get any readers/viewers or not. Hard work and keep trying are really the keys I guess.
Thank you for the support! I will say, LinkedIn is really difficult to gain traction especially if the network is on the smaller side. Try to build a larger network by commenting on people’s posts, which’ll help create a warm lead into a connection!
really practical and reasonable advice, none of that “take this bootcamp and get a job in 3 months” bull. I look forward to learning about the data space on your channel more! I think you’re my top 3 channels (data janitor, shashank kalanithi) on realistic path to get into this space.
Thank you so much for watching!! As a former teacher, I will say, once you land your first data job, you’ll notice the massive difference in industries. Teachers make amazing data analysts!
I’m going to be a contrarian voice here and say, I would want someone who has climbed the data analytics ladder to at least manager level, to provide perspective on both sides of the interview table. You aren’t experienced enough to be giving advice like this. You are not an isolated case either. Matt Mike and a host of others doing coaching and resume reviews when realistically none of you know the inner workings behind this process.
Thank you for your input! I’m sorry you feel that way. As a person who recently has been added to hiring interviews/teams, I hope to someday give that perspective. If you’d like to chat about any questions, you can always message me on LinkedIn instead of here.
