I'm only a few days into a certification course but I'm having tons of fun learning so far. This video gives me a clearer idea of where I should expect to be when I start my job hunt.
I don’t normally comment on videos! I will tell you this has been the most informative concrete and concise video about how to become a data analyst that I’ve ever seen! Thank you so much for your insight and willing to share your knowledge. Kudos to you. 🎉❤❤❤❤
You will need to sign up for my newsletter. It is within the welcome email that you should get automatically. Let me know if you don’t receive anything and I’ll help get you sorted out
Hey sorry for the late reply! So yes it wasn’t always like this, but you can keep a list of who you connected with and when they accept, reach out to them. Not the most efficient way but it’s really the only way since LinkedIn did that..
Good luck with your new adventure, I have been following your videos. Could you talk about Data Analyst and Business Intelligence Analyst role and how they are different?
Hey! The checklist is within the welcome email when you sign up for the newsletter. Check the spam folder in case you don't see it. You will also receive a free ebook in there as well!
I'm done subscribing to your Newsletter but didn't receive those Google sheet Data Analyst Checklists. Kindly help please I really need those. Thank you.

Hey! I’m no resume expert and not the biggest fan on GitHub for portfolios. I’d suggest building a great looking portfolio on Maven Analytics (it’s free). At least that would be my suggestion and then for resume, try to replicate formatting with what you find in google. Use ChatGPT to help with words and put it in your own words
@@IanKlosowicz thank you Ian, i've been applying and can't even get a phone screen. Got to keep my head up, signed up to Maven and getting to work. Just feel discouraged sometimes because i've been putting in the time
@@jaredbisla8723yea it definitely sucks sometimes. In reality it could be down to luck. I know people who took 2 months to land a job and others where it took 8 months. Chances are it’s not your fault
Great video! I loved the way you discussed how to make a good portfolio. Anyways, can I have your resume template? I find it neat and concise. Thank you!
Hi can you please give me advice for my career? I just finished my master degree in electrical engineer. I want to be data analyst and I am ready to learn, however I have no coding background. Should I take this step of changing my career? Is it possible for me to become data analyst?
Hey! Well I can answer that yes it is possible to become a data analyst as I didn’t have any formal education. Now the answer to should you make the career change, that is completely up to you to find out since you know your life best
Well you can use LinkedIn and filter for part-time. But I have never heard of a part-time data analyst usually because there is a lot to do. There could be a whole bunch of roles though I just never looked into part-time
Is it important to have a strong communication skills for becoming data analyst because as a analyst you need to explain the insights of data to everyone. also is there any free courses available regarding the sql, power bi ,etc
Communication is SO important! This will help you in your interviews as well as on the job as you will be expected to work with others and present findings or talk to clients. For free courses, I am not sure. You will have the best luck looking here on RUclips. I preferred the paid course route since they are usually more structured.
Hi It’s tough to get job in this job market couldn’t even get interviews ..is that really there are looking for junior data analyst ? Cz wherever I see it’s about senior level what about when people got career gap ?
Yes, it's extremely hard to get junior jobs in this field (or any tech field right now). Beware of these clickbaity types of videos, as they are part of the problem, drawing people into the industry who think they can take an online course or two and then be on par with people who have a proper education and spend years perfecting these skills. Lame.
how do I get that data analyst check list? the link is not in the description like the video said it was, and I subscribed to the newsletter and still no checklist.
Once subscribed, I have it to where it automatically sends you a Welcome Email where the link to the spreadsheet is. Try checking the spam folder? If you still can't find it, let me know
Thank you so much for this video, which was super helpful! I was curious, do you think that a master's program is necessary for an undergrad with a non-technical background to transition into an entry level data analyst role? Or is it sufficient to get a certificate & build specific skills (like SQL) with a portfolio? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏻
Hi Ian, informative content! I think if you could share the portfolio projects that you did for these tools and where to find those datasets will be helpful for many looking to build credible industry level projects😊
Because most entry level positions do not require it. Sure some do but majority do not. It’s going to take you just as long to learn Python as it does to use Excel, SQL, and a big tool.
Hi.Iam currently stuck in the tutorial hell.I see somuch videos and information and topics regarding these tools and get overwhelmed seeing how much there is to learn..I am not able to move to further topics thinking I need to go deep and into complex problems to be job ready and Im stuck forever. Were these courses and certificates you took were enough for you when you landed the job and in the real work environment ,how complex can the tools usage can go?
Bare with me... These courses absolutely were enough to land me my first job. The only struggle you will come across is passing a technical interview so you need to be proficient enough to solve these questions. They are not difficult if you've been a data analyst for a while but to a new person, they can be so your best bet is to practice like crazy (NOT meaning to learn in-depth or advanced courses). I can't tell you what your interview questions will be because every company is different but for the majority if its Excel (know xlookup, sumifs, and pivot tables), SQL (know joins, case statements, CTEs, and aggregations), BI tool (know how to create a clean dashboard) Complexity in the tools will go up after you land your job but that's ok because you will be paid to learn it AND that will be the only thing you focus on so it's a lot easier to manage.
Well you can take any dataset and create a dashboard within excel if you'd like! I normally just use it to clean data or manipulate it a bit before I import it into a BI tool
This was a really informative video, thank you so much. I have a question, I have been doing the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate, do these certificates equip you to be job ready or you have to supplement them with other courses?
100% will have to supplement unfortunately. That course will give you a great foundation of everything data, the tool specific courses will get you GOOD at the tools.
My first data job was a salary at $60k. I understood this was under the average of what I could make but it was higher than my hourly job and I knew once I got my foot in the door, my salary would keep increasing

The real answer is: it probably happened more than 5 years ago. You can't do it now unless hyper connected, genius or willing to risk waiting 2 years to get a job while doing many courses and certificaTIONS and building a portfolio for a chance at a junior role that now requires what a senior did 5 years ago. Be careful with misinformation!
