Just came across this video and boy, what a trip down memory lane. Grew up in Larbert and lots of memories of the trains from that time. The views and sounds have taken me right back

Oh my what a video. Where do i start ? Class 26's on trip freights, class 20's on the weed killer ( how old were those coaches ? ), 37's and 47's !!! Without doubt the best video i've seen in ages. Thanks for showing.

Great nostalgia video. Back when the railway still was, just. That weed killer train got all over, even saw it do Shildon wagon works sidings in '89. I also happened to be a Darlington when the Queen Mother named her 47 !! My "claim to fame" lol.

I saw the weed killer train rescue a failed DMU somewhere on RUclips 😅
I’ve only been to one naming ceremony and it was Andrew Carnegie at Waverley (47517)

Used to work in Greenhill lower and Larbert North as a train register boy then moved to Grangemouth Jct as a signalman

How Larbert has changed - on the left the rail training centre and housing has replaced the siding. Further north on the right, it's all houses. Also, the bridge at the station was replaced ahead of electrification of the line to Dunblane.

Yes certainly a huge change , the signal box is still there all boarded up 😅

We see 47461 again, only 47/4 to carry blue stripe Scotrail livery. She's on my layout, a very fine machine she was!

Wait till next weeks video, 461 seen in a completely different circumstance not long before withdrawal 😢

Thank you for sharing. Those views really brought back memories of spotting as a boy at Larbert in the early 90s. And that weed killing train was something to behold! 👍🏻👍🏻

Quality. Better than the Headlight on the 37s lol. Nearly as good as the lights on my 1965 Lambretta.
Very entertaining film. The sounds were awesome too.
    Thanks for posting.

So good to see the variety of traction we had back then, and the lost signal boxes. Railways were so much more interesting then!
In the early 2000's I used to have to sit in my coach at Oakwood school near Falkirk Stadium. The highlight of my day was the one train still class 37 hauled coming past!

The Class 47 leaving Larbert at 17:20, I have the model version of it in BR blue with that nameplate on it

Wish i could go back in time to witness the era we had with rail (industrial/coal/etc etc) / trains now are all the same bar the odd freight one

I wish this every day Marcus, I’m looking forward to this weekend as I’ll be getting 37 haulage X3 on a railtour 😊

Great footage, it's sad to see the amount of freight that has disappeared from the railways in favour of lorries considering all you hear these days is the environment. Plus look at the state of the roads these days with all the heavy traffic.

    • @yesterdaystracks
      @yesterdaystracks  2 года назад

Yeah you’re right but it all comes down to the customer , freight by rail isn’t as quick as road and everyone expects things next day now 🥴
