Goldin charges a big buyers premium… then sales tax and then hefty shipping fees… then they try and get you to send the items you just win at auction to their “vault” which will eliminate the sales tax and shipping. After they hold it an undetermined amount of time in their vault you can have it shipped to yourself for one dollar and no sales tax somehow. They are hoping you will just re-consign to them the same items you win, paid for and placed in their vault.
Thank you StickyGoose for the PSA to raise our awareness. This all smells like fresh barn yard excrement to say the least. Many can say what they want about FeeBay, but my experience has been 99% since 2005. Where else can you get a world wide customer base as a seller? Where else can you purchase from a world wide selection as a buyer, in the comfort of your couch? Anyways, keep raising awareness to our beloved hobby. BTW, I have been purchasing ECC Frames since your video launch last year and all my grails are now proudly displayed on my office wall. All thanks to you. Remember the Alamo!
I got good deals on gold in buying 12 dollar 6 dollar psa 8 slabs of hall of gamers Then sports card radio promoted it and ruined it. Prices aren’t cheap anymore. At one time tho this is where I was scoring low grade inventory aka 15 to 20 dollar slabs that I’m buying for 12 and selling for that. This is no longer possible
I've been shopping for an X-Men #1 (1963 don't want any confusion). I've put a list together of all sold sales on eBay and Goldin (only graded books) for 2023. Goldin has been cheaper than eBay even with the buyer's premium included in most cases. Both sites charge a 10% sales tax so there is no difference there. Just for an example a CGC 4.0 on Goldin sold including the buyer's premium for $9,420 (that was last week). A CGC 4.0 sold two weeks earlier on eBay for $11,699. I'm not shilling for anyone but that's $2,000.00 dollars cheaper on identical graded books. A CGC 5.5 sold on both sites recently. Goldin price was $15,000 including buyers premium while eBay was $17,000. There are cases where the prices were almost identical so it's not all cookies and cream. Both sites are cheaper than a dealer at a convention or online for similar grades. The buyers premium from what I can see scares bidders off. Just so your subscribers know Goldin doesn't hide the premium. It has the bid price and the total including the buyers premium right below it. Shipping graded books is never cheap so the difference can't be that bad. I'm trying to get the cheapest price possible for the highest grade book possible. I haven't won anything yet so it could be a nightmare but I don't believe that's going to be the case.
I’m sure this information will help some people, and perhaps you mean we’ll, but seriously? This is how auction houses work. Goldin is literally “Goldin Auction”, not an eBay competitor. Your points about how auctions are run and where the money goes are valid, but that’s an industry issue, not a single business. If you have something against a single business, be upfront about it. Have you ever bought or sold on Heritage? Comic Link? Comic Connect? These are auction houses. EBay is a marketplace.
Great info Sticky! I just won some comics on Goldin this week and knew about the 20% fee, but I was not aware of the 10% tax and with shipping and insurance it was like an extra 35% on top the price, yikes! And no way do I want them holding my books in their vault, I think that's more of a sports card flipper thing.
I'm not so much bothered by the buyer's premium, as other auction houses use this method. The most irritating aspect of their auctions for me is the post auction bidding room that is setup for folks that bid before a certain time prior to auction's end. I get they don't want sniping, but every bid in that room resets the timer to 15 minutes. It would be one thing if the window was 1-2 minutes, but this timeframe is too long. Makes babysitting the auction a major hassle, and almost negates the deal you might get.
Very timely video for me my man. Was bidding on their Albedo 2 on Wednesday. I probably was a good quarter of the bids, but as the price rose, the 20% rose, and it got to the point that it felt like I was bidding vs the company as much as my unnamed rival. That mixed with my unstable life and the reality that holy shit I’m bidding 5 k on a comic with that I could… set in and I bailed. Still looking for that book though so if you come across it anywhere hit me up!
Comic Book Investments doesn’t charge fees for now. Trying to get exposure. Once there is enough traction, fees will occur. He’s stated that in the past.
IF HE HAS TO BRAG ABT HIS BANK ACCT BEING ALL THAT,HE IS A POSER,NOTHING MORE. Apologies for the all caps,Sticky. I have been very very busy the last few months out of the country, but,I am back, great video !!
Ashley Cotter-Cairns (pretentious much?) has(had?) a RUclips channel (see: Sell My Comic Books) for many years. He's been in the business awhile, sure but Goldin is just a new name for the same business he was in.
That sounds so weird paying 90k for a book and letting them keep it in their vault Cause what stops them from listing it for sale multiple times and having 1-3 people own the same book it’s in their hands seems like a crafty way to get money and not give you product they make 270k and you’re now in a time share for a comic book Definitely sounds like they just wanted to capitalize on the book market but with 9 figures why wouldn’t they have gone into rare and expensive art and antiques 🤷🏻♂️ Ebay is really the only auction place I deal with some people I’ve seen buy for Heritage but Ebay is just simpler it’s familiar to me I can securely purchase and I’ve never needed to make a buyer protection claim I’ve always gotten my product or a refund without hassle

20% buyer's premium is pretty standard for an auction house.
I always appreciate your honesty and transparency.
I would rather just deal with eBay and whatnot. Thanks for letting us know the deal with this company.
eBay is kind of the standard
Whatnot… not so much. eBay is the standard for a buyer agreed
@@Stickygoose I feel confident buying from ebay

I just buy my big books from actual people and shows. They have the item. I give them cash and we are done. None of this garbage.

Didn’t know about this thank you
Appreciate that you are so transparent for the comic fam
That’s the channels motto
Yup... saw the low bids in big bold and black... then read the actual price in small grey under that stating "w/ Buyer’s Premium"
Classy
Pretty scummy
Keep it up sticky. Glad you are upfront about this stuff 😊
Rock on!

Ok I will check that out
After seeing his interactions with Sports Card Radio, I couldn't agree more.... Ken Goldin is a D-bag.
I know very Gary was talking about them and comic book investments does auctions but don’t charge for services and fees.
He is one of the creators I’m referring to

Never bought from them probably never will
I appreciate this behind the scenes look
I always keep it 100
