I just got the Ragnar yesterday and I've been positioning carefully and had success with hunting DDs and farming. I'm glad Ragnar is my first steel ship.
For my Ragnar is next ship to take , I have grabbed for my 6th steel ship Macklenburg , but my next will be Ragnar , I considered her November 2022 but I have taken Pothsmouth , and biggest Ragnar flaw for me commandor I have one 21p pan European commander Swirski , and he have build for Halland = torpedo , with whole Swedish line being torp oriented , Ragnar was not top on my list , but now with secon line in game , I will train another commander for Gdansk & Ragnar , and if WG wont release anything worthy on xmas I grab Ragnar .
@@adammarcinkowski-ko3el My commander is specc'ed for Gdansk and Ragnar. And it's a normal one, not unique.
I got it yesterday too. Having a hard time changing my usual dd playstyle. But I guess it's more of a cruiser than a usual gunboat

Ragnar Yes yes. Full wrap 25mm armor with angling deflects even Harugamo shells pretty well. Stay angled! Not an early capper! Great for supporting DDs as a 2nd line DD. A-bit tough to play from island cover because of her fast shell velocity but you can, just stay a-bit further back. Her AA is very strong. Throttle boost brings you up to 47.3 knots but you can only travel about 8-9k boosted, still it's nice! Stay the eff away from subs and use positional precautions for torpedoes! She can Kite fight from 12k out to max range, Shes only dodgy at range, I open water gun boat her against anything from 12k and out "while kiting"! She has the guns range and accuracy to reach out and touch (her strength to play to). Pan Euro Main: I do miss the torps lol. Cheers: Robert

@@TacticalBeard If angled it deflects them well. Ragnars firing angles are good enough that yes Haragumo has troubles penetrating Ragnar. I always angle!

I did, no regrets as I don't have a capt for Ragnar and I'd rather play Marceau/Kleber.
Z-42 is so different, but pretty good.
It's not a bad option especially after you put Gunther on it and get a 10 percent boost to your main battery reload after 100 shell hits.
Have both. Both are nice and different

Hey PQ @PotatoQuality - your comments early and again later in the video about how the accuracy is so good it is almost a problem made me feel seen. 🥺 I'd noticed at once how I was still aiming as if I was playing something like Halland and the shells were going nowhere near my target. Takes a moment to align the brain to the Ragnar mode but oh baby does it reward you. Great video, as usual.
Got it a few days ago, 33 ranked battles at gold 64% WR and when I loose I usually keep my star... This thing is awsome and I m still learning..
PS Playing full gunboat cpt, 15,9km range.
this ship is easily my favorite. the speed boost lets you speed juke everyone except some russian ships. and i get atleast 15 fires a game with it. absolute farming machine

Every time I get hit in Ragnar I lose engine or steering, and I mean almost every other salvo..
Ragnar, the DD that only have AP in research bureau and the tier 10 America one is 3 DD I don't like to deal in game. The Russia line is just to hard for me to hit it.
I keep having issues with vertical dispersion in this ship. Like my lead is good, but then I just straddle the target every other salvo.
To me Ragnar has the best antisub launcher of all DDs. You can for example fire from cover or hunt a sub.

After 150+ games mostly solo, I have like 66% Winrate and 98,000+ Average Dmg in this ship, truly a great ship, if you have some slow battleships pushing up your flank, you can hold them off really well, do lots of damage, and be a great distraction nuiance so that they don't focus on your team's battleship or cruiser when they get pissed by you lol
ranked out on this baby for this season, its amazing. hunt dds and profit, and dont be scared to shoot in open water to farm damage and distract enemies.

I loved m’y Smaland and i took the Ragnar but with the new line line I’m filling screwed. Why take a 20.000 steel ship when you have a Gankst for free?? I about to ask for been re-fund (and I hope that it will be in steel)
I have Gdnask and I still bought ragnar. Both Different playstyle.
Gdansk: She can do area denial the way Halland can do but relies on fires and smokes to farm big targets effectively.
She has no heal so using your short radar is also more a matter area denial than hunting DDs actively with your fat ship.
Ragnar can effectively hunt DDs with huge health pool + he but can't do area denial against big targets with the lack of torps and dpm/fires.
Conclusion:
Ragnar will require more skill to form large targest and less skill to hunt DDs.
Gdansk will require more skill to hunt DDs and less skill to farm big targets.
How to play like PQ on a DD😊 u are good on this class. Any DD u play u murder the other dd 🤣🤣🤣 im starting to play DD as i think it has the more impact on a team.
As the T10 Gdansk becomes available for free, the Ragnar looks less and less appealing.
you talk about "second line dd" is there a vid that explains all the lines?
I think he meant gunboat DD with less conceal and more gun power. E.g. Shima (front line) spotting in front, Khaba/Marceau (second line) at the back to support with guns against enemy DDs.
the lines are very simple to understand, there is the first or the front line, you are directly interacting with the other side front line. then the guys on your team behind you, thats the second line. the guys supporting them, third line, etc.
its the same concept as "screening" -- you have someone ahead of you providing visuals/info, and "screening" the incoming stuff etc
Basically play further back like a light cruiser. This is true of many of the DDs in the game. Some are more brawlers than others. Some are more for gun support for the more agile dds, like a light cruiser.
Always fun to one shot Ragnar with Venezia.
Ragnar is the best steel DD? I really have to disagree with this!!!
Ragnar is inherently underpowered. It lacks the necessary attributes to make meaningful impact on match result. No burst damage to speak of, split turrets, and yet still retains a fragile platform. I would take 1 Conqueror..Thunderer or 1 DM or even 1 of just about any CA over 2 Ragnars on my team any day of the week. Now... If WG gave it the specialized repair party of the Nestrashimy ( and 1 more base charge)... And maybe a few more thousand HP if could make up for where it is seriously lacking with longevity

I'm not convinced it's worth spending the steel on this ship when the Gdansk will be out soon for free. Steel is too valuable and takes so long to build up enough, I just don't think the slight edge Ragnar has over Gdansk is enough
How is it compared to Stalingrad? Which one is better to win games and which one is more fun to play?
I will answer your question by covering both ships
Ragnar first,
It is essentially a light cruiser in DD form. You have a 25mm plate on your sides that shatter most destroyer HE. It also has good firing range, high damage per salvo, good fire chance, good shell ballistics, the most accurate guns in the game to date, a radar and a 30% speed boost that you can use to juke and repositions. It's downsides are it's high detect and it's clumsy handling. The way it handles means you have to be very keen on your positioning which is why it is very challenging to play. However there is a saying in wows and that is "DDs win games" and that is especially true of the Ragnar who can beat most dds in the game easily, burn battleships, and citadel light cruisers as well as lightly armored heavy cruisers like zao, DM and Henry.
Stalingrad is a heavy cruiser that took it's guns to the candy shop and took everything there was to offer. You have high velocity shells, improved pen, improved pen angles, short fuse AP and high AP damager per salvo and good accuracy. You are also very tanky nose on. The trade off is you have bad conceal, are very easy to citadel from the sides, and you burn for 60 seconds. Stalingrad is fun but you have to be passive in the begining and look for opportunities to engage. Anytime you give a bb your broadside you my as well go back to port, but the same can be said for the bb if they give you broadside.
However it is worth noting Petro is getting a legendary mod that will give it better dispersion and more AP damage, and there is a super Petro coming out with most of Stalin's gimmicks with better conceal and survivability. Knowing that it is really up to you if you want Stalingrad enough it's still a good ship but I consider Petro better because of the conceal and tankyness of the ship.
Both have challenging but rewarding aspects to their play style so it depends how you like to engage the enemy.
Both of them are very strong but none of them are fun tbh. Ragnar slightly offer better experience & impact to win games than stalin, at least you can hunt then melt DD early & not stuck bow in tanking bunch of HE fired at you.
Ima be honest, this is one dd I regret unlocking. The accuracy is nice, but you only get two turrets, you will get outgunned by other dds like Sherman. Yes it destroys dds, but this is usually at the beginning of the match. This dd is horrible against solo randoms, especially against divs, you have no torps, and can not stop pushes. It’s also massive, so you become a bigger target for bbs and especially cruisers to take advantage of. Where it shines is annoying bbs, and hunting DDs, but again, other DDs can do the same like kleber or elbing with torps at least. Any CAs you’re pretty much not advised to farm, because you’re not going to outgun and a CA, and you have less armor
I think it's workable to duel CAs by speed juking from 14.5-15km
Got Rank 1 playing Ragnar. But I just can't make Ragnar work in randoms...
She is supposed to have tools against any ship class (radar/HE pen/long range for DD/CA/BB), but it doesn't work in reality
As a DD-without-weaknesses I prefer Grozovoi. Can win those long-range DD engagements just as easy, plus you can do other things (like capping, torping, AA support)
Ragnar can do everything a Grozovoi can do, but better. Keep BB, CA farming to 12km+, read the map and see who could be contesting you. Don’t take DD engagements unless you know you are within 7.5km for radar, you have support and the DD has equal or less support. Ragnar isn’t just a left click and farm away solve all DD. You still have to be aware what’s around you.

Try they coal ship Tromp 😉 it’s basically a Ragnar but trade out the radar and heal for air strikes, torpedos and a 3rd turret

I have it and will say it is a very difficult but fun ship to play. To succeed in it you need to know what ships you can pen with sap and how to fire over islands. One wrong move and you explode. Playing that ship is a crack filled adventure where you are always looking for another high. melting 20-50k of a bb is that high. If you want a fun ship I don't see why not but just keep in mind it has a steep learning curve.

I don't wanna be a doomsday crier but it really feels like the good game we knew is dying. I stopped playing a few weeks back because every single game I got was a blowout or really short. Most of your published games here are the same.
yeah i agree. been playing since 2015. it's dreadful to enter random games now, because you work your ass off to get a 1500 base XP loss. its life sucking.

Ragnar is hard to play. Still haven't gotten the hang of it after spending months on Marceau. Probably should've gone for the Bourgogne first.
How can a sub still dive after taking so many shell hits/explosions?
Because it's a clown-class. Bit like CVs that don't burn.

Ragnar is more like a harder to play version of Russian DDs
Had an absolute blast in this thing farming gold ranked, 450 battles with 66 winrate despite my skill being barely good enough to call myself an unicum player.
Just spec for conceal and murder any dd that pushes your radar. Your accuracy and shell velocity make you a threat against any spotted dd up to 13-14 km and even longer in some cases. You will average low damage but massive impact.
Caution: Smart players will shoot DD AP at your broadside to arm on your cheeky 25mm side plate so watch out for that. Also harugumo pens you with HE, but you should be able to wreck most average players anyway.
Yeah for me it's the positioning aspect since I can't push caps till late game.
the main way to play ragnar, is just to focus on DAMAGE
Dont do anything else, put yourself in a good position, and farm. If you come across a dd then sure, blast it out of the water, but keep hp, farm, play greedily like one of those super-unicums, who say at the back of the map, and complain about everything in front of them
