Does heavy use of cannabis afftect REM sleep?? Is using it for a good nights sleep actually causing more harm?? How can I tell if I’ve had REM. I don’t remember dreams….for a long time….. I don’t remember any dreams
I find it ironic that the medical profession has the science to correlate sleep with performance, yet the culture of the medical industry makes it difficult for it's workers to get good sleep because of the schedules that are encouraged or sometimes mandatory. Nurses taking long double shifts, hospital doctors working for 24 hours at a time, and residents doing extra long work weeks, etc.
This is so true. There is a shortage of people working in the medical field. And yes, hospitals should be staffed 24/7 as emergencies don't care for the day and the hour. The shifts should be a bit shorter and the day should be shared by more staff.
@@lionelberlet9077 even in periods flush with nurses….night shifts will never go away, and some will be on nights far longer than they ever planned on.
I had issues getting 7-8 hours of sleep up until about 2 months ago when my new psychiatrist looked at the notes from my previous psychiatrist about my sleep issues and prescribed me an antipsychotic medication called Risperdal which has mild sedative effects. I have Bipolar 2 disorder and the biggest issue I had falling asleep was struggling with racing thoughts that prevented me from falling asleep. Since I started taking the Risperdal I have been getting 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I actually get up around 6-7 in the morning without feeling tired which is a whole new experience for me and I am starting to feel healthier! Well except this past week. I'm battling a respiratory illness right now and the cough medication is making it hard for me to sleep...ugh. But I can definitely say from experience that getting the right amount of sleep does benefit us all like the doctor says.

Technique to sleep easily: Don't think of someone but something...like a scenery or view. In my case I'm thinking of the beach with the sound of the waves. Surprisingly, it works all the time. 😘
I guess I am one of the 1/3 of adults that gets seven plus hours of sleep every night. I actually function best when I get eight hours of sleep at night.
Question? I work in sleep medicine and I’ve never understood why we prescribe SSRIs when they clearly delay REM onset, snd yet that’s what people with depression need. 🤷🏻♀️
For five years I couldn't sleep more than two hours at a time. I had to alternate sleep and waking all night. Then for three years I was able to sleep up to four hours at a time. Finally I could sleep six hours at once, for three years. Now I conk out for 12 hours at a time. I don't think that's probably good for me, but I'm so grateful for deep sleep I'll take it.

I read a paper recently about lack of sleep and memory in worms. All-nighters aren't helpful folks. If you'd like to remember some stuff, learn it and get some good sleep and the memory consolidation will happen and you'll remember it well.
Dear Mike, I would love to ask for your opinion on the theory, that we should preferably go to sleep before 12 pm. My experience shows that, if I go to sleep at around 11pm, I wake up fresh even at 7 am next morning, while going to sleep around 1 am, even if I sleep till 9 next day, I wake up a bit groggy. Thank you for your professional opinion. And for the useful videos! :)
Thank you for commenting on this specific aspect of sleep! 🙏🤩My father continues to quote the following adage, “every hour of sleep that one receives before midnight, is equal/is equivalent to ‘two(2)’ hours of sleep that one receives after midnight.”(I know I didn’t precisely quote the original) According to that of your experiences, and that which you are theorizing, there most-assuredly, exists a significant amount of validity to this! My curiosity is piqued, as well 😊
I don't have a problem falling asleep but I dream a lot and they are so vivid and imaginative that they wake me up some time with a headache. I don't understand why my dreams are so powerful and diverse stories like in a movie. they disturbed me some time.
I'm here because I am a night owl and tend not to get enough sleep. Even if I do get enough sleep, I wake up groggy and I am not a morning person at all. Can you please do a video on night owls like me?

Is it ok to sleep like 4 or 5 am till noon time the following day? Is this healthy? This kind of sleep affect our body? And will this supplement the 7 to 8 hrs sleep needed in our body?
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2019 and then my recent study this year came out normal. Either one was a false positive or one was a false negative… my rem sleep sucks though
I'm fine with 4hrs of sleep, can't have more if I'm not physically exhausted. The older i get the shorter i sleep. If you have a job you have regular schedule of sleep but when your just at home it is irregular and just when you feel it. i notice physical exhaustion makes me fall asleep, but mental exhaustion makes me up. The hormones can also disrupt sleep, the ovulation period will make you up or the early days before period will make your brain active. But if my bp is very low i get tired and sleepy but the longer i sleep it makes me sick and dizzy. If I am tense i can't sleep, anxiety also ads more problem. The worse thing i do is eat carbs to fall asleep and it is not healthy but it does make me sleepy.
I recently started wearing my Apple Watch to monitor amount of sleep I get. I have upped my water intake and it causes me to rise 3 sometimes 4 times per night so I only get roughly 4:26hr of core and avg 50 mins of deep sleep. I am still grumpy and irritable during most days. Time in bed=8+hr but avg sleep time 6 and half hours. Is this normal? I think bladder/prostate issue may be hindering overall sleep but reluctant to mess with my plumbing.
I haven't slept for 3 weeks and have lost my appetite I don't drink I don't take drugs I don't have coffee I don't eat junk food and very underweight I have ADHD and autism and Learning difficulties And when I do try and sleep I have severe panic attacks
Any tips to increase deep sleep? And to prevent waking up an hour after I falla sleep to urinate? Believe me it's not water intake/liquid. Not sodium either or carb. I fall asleep pretty easily but I still get up like 5 times a night. It's not sleep apnea, and not stress and I've utilized everything I can possibly think of to try an improve my sleep. The only thing that prevents waking up as many times is if I over eat and consume way too many carbs. But I can't keep doing that or i end up gaining weight.
Well, apparently I have no circadian rhythm cause I'm on Dr. angel face's page trying to get some magic tips, and now I'm just distracted by him jumping into that fluffy bed all by himself wondering why he's alone and how the hell does a critical care doctor have energy to make videos and frankly just hating myself for every single choice I ever made in life. So there's that. I swear I've never felt so alone and tired of everything.

Dr Mike if I may interject, wouldn’t oversleeping put you just as at risk as getting low sleep as well? Most people can’t survive on six hours of sleep and more. Of course this is probably based on age since I’m 32 years old. Sometimes I can get six hours of sleep(of course with me waking up in the middle of the night most nights it’s impossible) but sometimes I get a little less
