Super looking hopper Davie, can you remember about 30 - 35yrs ago deer hair sedges were the big thing 😃 no sooner had the tackle shop got more deer hair in than they were sold out again.
This method of segmenting the detached foam body is brilliant. I am kicking myself for not working it out for myself. Also, your method demonstrates just how easy it is to form a good muddler head. By taking a little time and care. Trim like it is a bonsai. Not slash n chop Banzai! Deer hair is a wonderful material when used correctly. Again I thank you for imparting some of your knowledge and extensive experience. It helps all of us at all levels to enjoy and expand our love of this craft.
I’ve been in search of a good hopper pattern and you have come up with it. Great use of the golden pheasant tippet, this looks like a nice addition to the fly case. Thank you
Great looking hopper mate. Always pleased to see your videos done by the Master. Thanks for sharing my friend. Have a great day. Best Regards from West Virginia, Ken
Nice , it’s a great hopper pattern. Sometimes I will use a brown color marker on the abdomen sides don’t know if it makes any difference but it looks cool. I also do this in black and orange for a cicada pattern. Thanks for the video
Really nice tie, Davie. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious,, was the "original" tied with a furled chenille body or simply wrapped around the shank of the hook? I definitely like the one you presented.
Hi James, As far as I believe it was, I have attached a link to the website that has a lot more info on the fly for you to see...I'm glad you liked the fly... All the very best Davie flyanglersonline.com/features/oldflies/part262.php

Great video and even greater fly! I usually don't spin the hair. I use the other method because I'm don't like the results when I spin it.
