- In this video, I will be finishing up the 6 board chest. This was a fun hand tool woodworking project with fairly easy joinery. This blanket chest is a great skill building hand tool project if you are interested in traditional woodworking. I hope you enjoy the video. If you do, please like, comment and consider subscribing to the channel. Thanks for watching!
Oh, and 14:23 I say i'm using a fenced router plane and meant to say fenced rabbet plane

Like the project. Impressive. Like the vids. No music. Good narration. Good instruction. Perfect.
Hand tools make a difference and that's all I use. Excellent hand tool skills. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Talented AND ambidextrous too :)
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this. I liked the 2 different ways you showed how to make a rabbet. And the simple molding was nice too.
Excellent man! That is a heck of a lot of work but it’s something you can be proud of...and that’s definitely an heirloom the kids will fight over!
Thanks Rob! I really enjoy just using handtools and it always makes me appreciate the antique pieces I've seen and how much sweat and skill went in to building them.
Twisted Woodshop definitely man. It’s more than most would do but it really does help you dial in your skills. 👍
So guess what I'm doing this weekend.... love watching your videos
I can but agree with all the previous comments: well done and well explained! While occasionally frustrating, woodworking is mostly relaxing, once you get into the flow and don't rush it.
Thanks! I agree. When I get in to heart of the project, my mind clears up and I'm not thinking about anything outside the shop. Relaxing
Well done. I admire you for using only hand tools with a shop full of sweet power tools.
Thanks! The crosscut, ripping and even joining with hand tools are pretty fast but I did miss the power planer
What a cool project. I love that you used cut nails and milk paint. Really good job on this.
Thank you!
Really psyched that one of your videos popped up in the feed.
Keep up the good work!
Cool projects
Thanks!
Very nice wooden chest.
Awesome project. Really like the Milk paint color you put on it.
that was cool man - ✋⚒🔁 (hand tool revival) - you got that vibe!
Thanks! Lol. I went and hugged my power planer when I was done and told it "I'm sorry for neglecting you. Dont ever leave me"
Hey Dave, what a pleasure to watch this video, you showcase some top American Craftsmanship & although I see it can create challenges using just hand tools the finished chest is solid & looks suave, I like the look of chalk paint 🍻👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I am happy with the paint now too but it took a little while to grow on me. Every project we learn a new trick or shortcut and build our skills. I will keep making furniture until that's not true anymore
Excellent work, and a nice clean design. KUDOS.
Thanks!
It was a pleasure to watch how you did it. Respect for all this hard work my friend!
Thanks! It was a labor of love. I will hate to see it leave
I enjoy your style of explanation. All the best.
Thank you!
That came out great! I like the logo on the shop door!
Thanks man!
Thanks for this high quality content!
Great job!
Thank you! I cant wait to see your beautiful workbench in action
i really enjoy his two parts video. good job
Thanks! This was a fun project
Excellent job. Good craftsmanship and clear, concise explanationmakes for a prize winning video
Thank you!
Turned out great! I like that paint color!
Thanks! I was not thrilled with it at first but it grew on me!
Good project to practice ! And you’ve achived it with flying colors congrats 👍🏼👏😉
Thank you
Beautiful work Dave :) I love the end result ॐ
Thanks. It was a fun challenge. I'm glad I made the molding and profile on the lid. And the color is growing on me too.
I actually love the colour. It reminds me of Jade and it's a great complement to the bare wood of the inside. I've been buying a few old pieces of furniture because I haven't had the time to build much before we began to move in after the building work, but I will make something similar to your chest when I do find the time. Thank you for the inspiration ॐ
As always, a great project. You make it look easy!
Thanks Guy! They power of editing! Na, it wasnt too bad but I did get a good workout during the rough dimensioning!
Beautifully done.
Beautiful work!!! Really relaxing to watch hand tool work.
Well done! Loving those moulding planes 😍
Thanks. I picked them up from Jim Bode Tools after finally giving up on finding them on craigslist or at my local antique shops. They were a decent price for 18 planes and he normally has a few sets. Most of them need tuned up but I have been working on them little by little
Enjoyed the build! THANKS!!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice, I would add a decorative carved emblem on the front face on the next one, an easy quilt square would look nice 😁
There are some old antiques with carvings on them! I would love to do it but I need a bit more practice with carving first. I've been looking at taking a carving workshop!
@@TwistedWorkshop77 Maybe stencil something on the top. Would look good and be pretty easy.
Woe I bow before the true master keep it up 🛫🌺👍
Nice work, and a useful edit & voice over. Thanks.
Thank you!
Great job. I enjoyed the work and the narration. Cheers!
Thanks!
Total Hand tools !!! That where knowledge & skill plays the important part. Nice & good work.
Video is good too. Keep it up.
Thank you for the feedback!
Real fine build there. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Thank you for creating these videos!
Beautiful job. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
I see that I’m not the only woodworker with a hand plane fetish.
Great work!
Great job
Excellent
Great 👍
Hey, awesome project. You are really skillful with the hand tools. I always enjoying watching you videos. I only do rudimentary wood projects using dimensional lumber and pine boards from home depot. Woodworking is the opposite of forging. Forging is bang, bang, bang, hurry before the piece gets too cold, woodworking is slow and requires a lot of patience to bring out the beauty of the wood. I am looking forward to the next project.
Thanks. I thought about you when I was fixing up those hinges I used and wondered how hard it would be to make a nice set of strap hinges. With only a set of tongs and some s hooks under my belt, it was a little over my head. Maybe one day my RUclips teacher will makes a set I can learn from!!
@@TwistedWorkshop77, certainly! I am planning to do a video on the subject, and now that you brought it up, I might do it sooner than later.
I’m eager to transition from power tools to predominantly hand tools and these videos were inspiring and relatively challenging - especially watching a fellow-southpaw doing the work. Thanks!
Its hard working in a right handed world sometimes! Thanks for watching
Great job Dave! I enjoyed it :)
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Excellent finish! Knowing well, how much time and efforts it takes to make good videos, kudos to your editing and voice-over work!👍
Thank you! It's not bad when your having fun! It is hard to find the time when juggling a demanding day job and a family. I'm still working on getting the balance right.
Your dam good with hand tools (respect).
Excelente!!!!
Thanks!
Great instructions, detailed and to the point. Been wanting to build one of these. Subscribed.
Thank you
Great and beautiful job 👍. I'm new to hand tools and it's just looking like project for me to require more experience with my hand tools
Great stuff! Lots of great tips
Instant subscribe!
Can't want to see what else you've made
Thank you!
Great job mate. There's a tonne of hard work in this project! I quite enjoy your video style too for what its worth. Thanks
Thank you for the feedback!
It was really great to watch this project and I think you did a great job :) Lots of respect for all the effort you put in with this!
Thanks!
Only hand tools..nice
I noticed you fit your box of drawers under the drum sander. It used to be under your workbench in your last shop. Did to just fit under there perfectly? Curious how it’s built too. Maybe when you do another shop tour in the future.
The box is an adaptation of Tommy Macdonald's tool box. I didn't have plans, just watched some of his old videos before roughcut so the dimensions are not the same. I made it a few years ago. I saw popularwoodworking magazine did an article on Macdonald's with dimensions a year or 2 ago. It's free online I think. It did happen to fit perfectly under the drum sander purely by luck.I will be bringing the old bench to the new shop soon and was going to put the box back under it.
Beautiful! Is there a reason you didn't glue the sides together? Do the nails alone hold it firm and not loosen up over time?
These were some great videos. If you ever decide to start teaching, I think you should consider teaching this as a class. I'm not just trying to flatter you (I may even steal the idea someday). This is a very approachable hand tool project, and after the milling, it seems like it would move pretty fast as well. How many hours would you estimate for the whole build, if you had to?
Thanks! I would love to do a workshop sometime. It took almost 3 days. If I could have found some wider stock and not had to glue up panels then reflatten them, it would be a 2 day build
Great project. Thoroughly enjoyed watching these. Where did you get your cut nails from?
Beautiful blanket chest!....I have a question. The grain of the sideboard are the other direction than the front and back board......It is not supposed to crack because of the movement of the wood?...I saw antique blanket chest like that and some were cracked...I think because of that...Im I wrong? Thanks, and continue your beautiful work....
Thanks for the comment. Wood movement shouldn't be a problem between the sides, front and back boards since they are not glued together. Only nails hold those panels on and that should allow the boards to move without cracking.
Nice video. What size are the cut hinge nails ?
Any reason why you saw with your left hand (mostly) when it appear you are right hand dominant?
I am comfortable using either hand for most tasks
Is it a hollow plane or a round? The hollow profile on the plane makes a round molding.....
I am pretty sure the hollow plane makes the convex or round profile. In the video, I kept saying quarter round when I referenced the molding and then said I used a hollow plane. I think this is correct but I see how its confusing. Even worse at 14:23 i called my rabbet plane a fenced router plane! Ugh
Really enjoyed this build. Also would like a link to that hammer your using
Thanks! Here is the link amzn.to/2X3DVqG . I think Lee Valley sells the Stanley brand but they were around the same price back when i bought mine
