      The mic has the +20db because Canon cameras don't have great audio options, but to get the best out of that mic you turn on +20db and then turn the audio down in your camera's audio menu. Its made so you don't have static in your quiet moments.

    I kinda like the yellow tinge that the old camera had over the entire picture, but that's maybe just me :P
    The new one's video quality is a lot crisper and sharper for sure though. Oh and the tracking/focus is wayy better

    The focus and resolution on the new camera was much better. The color saturation is higher on the old camera which can be good in some situations. Overall great upgrade. Now you need a gimble for smooth motion shots.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  4 года назад +2

      I think it's just a setting on the old camera that is making it saturated like that. You know like when you set your TV to "vivid"? Something like that.

    It really seems like the T8i blows all the highlights out and it seems a bit washed out where the T5i is a lot more colorful, not in a bad way!

    Hi Russell, The new camera is a lot cleaner and better focused. I would suggest you get some light reflectors to better balance the brightness. I used to just use cheap white bristol board from the dollar store. It will likely help balance the light and focus of both you and the pond behind you when doing the porch talks. I look forward to seeing you experiment with the new gear.

    Hi Russell, I'm a part-time landscape and ocean photographer. I've been doing this for just a few years. My first camera was the T5i. It performed really well as a learning camera and held up real nice as I took it everywhere, especially the ocean. Until one day, during a Pacific storm that had the surf up to 20 feet, I got hit by a rogue wave that took me out some. I survived, but the camera became a paperweight. Have to say the SD card survived and the photos are killer. I then switched to a Nikon D750 FX camera. That switch changed my life and I do not play I dare ya with the ocean any longer. Your switch to the T8i looks really great for what you use it for there. It is much clearer and the focus was spot on with your movements. What kind of Go Pro do you have?

    A cheap tablet can be plugged into most cameras for an external monitor giving you a bigger image to see what it is doing or you can get a long cable to hook it to a phone you can hold onto to see. Other option would be to get yourself a cutout of yourself to put into the shot when setting up.
    The good thing about having a cutout of yourself is you can always use it for pranks or simply leave it looking out a hard to get to window when you don't need it.
    Rather then setting up tripods for the kitchen and deck shots why not just do an overhead track with arm to mount the camera to? ruclips.net/video/tiHoWwuTM4U/видео.html he is making most of it out of plywood with some common hardware tossed in. Add an extra joint for the slope of the roof over the deck and it should still make a great place to film from and no tripod to work around/the dogs to knock into. Would still need the tripod for the normal outdoor shots but the spots inside or on the deck you setup often would be fast to set back up each time you need them.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  4 года назад +1

      I've thought about getting an external monitor, but the idea of adding a bunch of crap to the setup makes me not want to. I want to try and keep the setup somewhat simple. Also, an overhead track... no.
