Hey Russel I am 58 and you are trying to work like a 25-year-old. The hard way is going to wear you out before you hit 60. Work smart. Log Ox will save you're back by dragging the cut rounds to your splitter. Stand behind your lever at all times to avoid the splintering of dry logs and avoid injury. Hold the chainsaw bar upright while tightening the chain and locking in the lugnuts. I know what you mean by where the time goes when you want to accomplish some daily tasks. Never enough LOL. I am lucky that there are no ticks in my area. Not yet at least.

For a pvc crack along the ball housing you could try metal putty but each time you open the valve the body might flex and reopen... source out a stainless steel ball valve, you can change it whilst the tank is full and will only loose a little bit of water and get a bit wet to boot. That plastic valve looked like it would get brittle when cold. Keep up your vids I thoroughly enjoy watching.

Another wonderful vid. But, dang!, that was so scary about the log splitter! You're so lucky you didn't get badly damaged.
Clever of you to figure out why that patch of unmelted snow beneath the horizontal dead tree.
You need to insulate EVERYTHING outside that might get damaged, including spigots to the tote. Things will crack when it gets cold enough.
Forget the anchor. Just knock off 3-4 fat beavers, tie them to the chain, and wait for them to sink. Replenish them couple times a year. (And I'm kidding!) Yeah, get that anchor. Hopefully there are some tree stumps or rocks down at the bottom where they can latch onto.

Russell, I like to mix some maple and pine in with my oak as well. Even when oak is dry it’s hard to get a fire cranking right away with decent sized splits until your coal bed is large and hot, especially in my fireplace. I always like to mix in the less Btu wood. It’s like a science after all these years, I burn every type and stack it accordingly. Keep up the good work!

If you ever want to try and fill something with superglue, put baking soda over it. Baking soda (bicarbonate) in combination with Cyanoacrylate undergoes a chemical reaction creating polymer chains that are stronger and more resilient than cyanoacrylate-water bonding and dries much faster. It's useful to make it act as a filler and the superglue and baking soda mix also bonds more readily with plastics than plain cyanoacrylate.

    Hi, Russell
Trail cameras probably fail due to moisture ingress. Although they are rated as “waterproof” or simply “showerproof”, they aren’t really. The reason is that the box “breathes”. As it gets warmed up, it forces air out and as it cools, it sucks air (and moisture) in. You can’t stop this but you can mitigate its effect to some extent:
    1. Make a “roof” from thin aluminium sheet and secure it above the camera. This keeps sunlight and direct rainfall off the camera, thus reducing the heating/cooling effect. Make the overhang somewhat wider and deeper than the camera.
    2. Coat the battery contacts and the door seal with silicone grease (not sealant!) Usually available from plumbing- or hardware stores.
A cracked pipe can often be repaired by melting the cracked plastic with a soldering iron tip.
Your saddle needs to be repaired before the foam disintegrates. Duct tape will do as a temporary repair.

As soon as I saw you sitting there in front of that splitter… I knew. You put yourself right in the target zone… HOWEVER even when you set that splitter horizontal the wood reacted with kind of an explosion which was odd- we have split years of firewood always with the grain. The vertical setting for that splitter is a back saver just roll the big rounds in and like another gent said here? Get out of the target zone. I truly was expecting your leg to be fractured, the wood nymphs had your back on this one. As I have gotten older I find my spirit is willing but my body becomes less able little by little so I need to use my mind to think through smarter ways to accomplish tasks my young buck self would have snickered at but held respect too, that I am still out here getting it done.

Proper way to tighten/adjust chain tension: Place the saw on its belly, hold/apply upward pressure on the nose of the bar; as you move the bar outward watch the bottom chain until it makes contact across the bottom of the bar. Do not let go of the upward pressure on the nose. Tighten the nuts. Always secure the nuts in the tension movement of the bar, not the relaxed movement.

I see your wood was frozen like your pond, when you were splitting it, it wanted to explode and did. Life in Canada on a cold spring morning. Be careful. That maple you cut was very pretty. June Bugg and Willow look like their having lots of fun in the cooler weather, being black they might get hot in the summer. Anyway thanks for the long video and see what's instore for you and city girl this spring. O that water value that broke, you should be able to buy one made of brass at a plumbing warehouse. MC. MC.

      They take heat?

    • @raycaster4398
      @raycaster4398 3 месяца назад

I don't know if they take external heat or if they can be used with electrical pipe heat tape.
The brand I've used is 'Frost King' faucet protector (flexible, no tools).
I've used the rigid foam bib protectors that hook on too.
I've considered placing one of those chemical glove warmer packets inside the bib protector for very cold nights.

Flex tape is a pretty good water proof sealant - there is tape, paint etc.

Russell try holding the tip up on your bar when you tighten up that bar . What happens if you tighten the bar don't hold up the top of it moves up makes your chain lose . Also work smarter not harder. Try not to lift your wood so many times.

For this time of year a good.. Line indicator to line up your solargrid especially a stretch away from the cabin... A lot of us cultivate how much electricity Of solar panels is needed to keep a cabin.. I guess I am asking what is considered inefficient..

Great video Russell! Great to watch to unwind after a long day at work. Have you tried flex tape on the spigot? We had a rip in our pool cover and it's held up for 2 years now, even with 30 lbs of snow on top at times.

You might try some "Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape" on your valve. Just be careful with it, when it sticks to something there is no getting it undone. PS. it works underwater as well.

The wood that you cut. Clean it up, make it a project polyurethane or bee's wax it. Add a couple of hair pin legs. Or just cut a couple tree small logs and make a table.

HEy Russell, The crack in the valve ,if you're going to seal it ,use rubber cement or caulking to seal it ,and let it sit for 24 hours to ensure that it is completely dry.
