VW 2.0 TDi …… one of the greatest engines of all time. Mine still going strong at 219,000 miles.
As long as it's not the 138bhp version, but hey, someone has to be lucky.
Agreed. Well developed, on the whole, relatively minor problems with some ancillary components (unlike the 2.0 TFSI with it's problems with pistons and other expensive failures). Has enough oomphh as a daily, good on fuel, power band where you want it for daily driving. Great Range. Great daily.
Have to agree, I’ve had my vRS TDI combi for 3 years now. Possibly the best all round car I’ve had. Love it.
I have had mine for 9 years and the only problem i have with it is I cannot find anything I would want to buy to replace it in the same price range. Its perfect.
@Kevin-dp1vy Any probs with the DPF thanks.
@@tonyrobinson362 nothing at all. Apart from a battery and the windscreen washer bottle which froze and split when I ran out of washer fluid and filled it with water, the only things I have replaced are tyres and brakes.
We're witnessing the end of an era and possibility a classic car of the future. A fitting tribute, Nobby, and hardly the first in which your genuine love and appreciation of certain cars (if not all 😅) shines through.
A diesel Octavia will never be a classic car, it might be an old car at some point but it'll never be a classic car.
Loved my diesel VRS, I’ve moved on but still think about the Octavia, what a machine.
My 2006 Passat TDI is still going strong at 388,000 kilometres!
Good to see you back in top form today Mark it’s hard to keep a good man down another good review and thanks.
I attended Crufts last weekend where Skoda the main sponsor had the new Octavia VRS petrol on display….it looks awesome ❤
Between 2008 and 2016 I have three Octavia vRS TDi DSGs. Amazing cars. Had a early life crisis between then and now in a BMW 430d xdrive Gran Coupe (amazing car btw) now back to Skoda in a Superb Sportline. Cant fault Skodas for practicality and value.
I had 2 x Vrs TDI's of the previous version! Fabulous cars, both mine and my wife's favourite cars! Got a Superb afterwards, also brilliant but lost that peppy performance the Vrs's had! Not a surprise!
Great video and fitting tribute to a "sleeper car"....I had one of first gen vrs estates and always remember a colleague asking what the he** I was doing...just buy the audi you really want!!
And then after the 1st time he drove behind me on a sweeping A road he got it....the octavia vrs 4x4 was as good an estate as you could buy.
So long 😢👍👍
Diesel is my first choice. Diesel engines are 'compression ignition' engines, which are future proofed given that they can run on many products. The first engine by Rudolf Diesel didn't run on 'diesel fuel' , but peanut oil. He tried other oils successfully.
At a time when we worry about crude oil, the compression ignition engine is superior to petrol because you can literally grow fuel for it, and better than EV because the range is easy to increase without the massive weight penalty which EV's 'enjoy'
I can remember when I was based in Tipperary, a woman I worked with bought a Skoda Favorit. She was a motoring trail blazer.
Ha 😀
Pffft, favorits. I had an estelle. Favorits were the new fangled front engine cars
Since 1992, I've only had Skodas - 2 Estelles (120Ls), a Favorit GLXi, two Felicias, a Fabia 1.2 HTP and now a Rapid 1.2SE. I liked them all, but each one was better than the previous model. My next car will probably be a Scala.
This is the best review for car ever see , great talking , love VRS so much .
Such a COOL COOL format! Very tempted to switch from the Formentor next year to an Octavia Combi, given that I’ll be ordering in Aug/Sept, just for the cool factor! Nothing else. It’s me and my golf clubs 😂
Nobby you are a star! I love this car I must admit. If it wasn't for the price and insurance group (24) it'd definitely be for me though price wise I will concede that a second hand demo model would be worth a look.
Had 2. Loved them both. Still got my Fabia vRS after 17 years, still love it, and apart from maintainance, has been and still is, trouble free, and now got a Superb Est L&K150 bhp diesel estate to go with it, and guess what......! 🥰
Hi Colin, is there sufficient power with the 150 ? I had a190 Superb and loved it. Thanks. Fintan.
@@fintanbradley1029 More than adequate. In fact it's surprisingly nippy....and economical too. Regulary see 60 mpg on a long run, 52 around town. Only gripe is the glove box lid, which is a common issue apparently.
Many thanks!
Love listening to this guy…..”when you’re thirsty”…….”thirty thousand euro” ❤
Im not an estate fan but I will miss the diesel option.Tanx Nobby
Top tip for U.K. drivers - get one in black or white , wear a white shirt and a high viz coat and watch the car in front sh#t themselves 😂
🤣
I was sitting in the middle lane of the M6 the other day in mine, wearing a hi vis coat cruising at 75, when an Audi flew past. The passenger saw my coat and the driver slammed on the brakes. He then pulled in behind me and stayed there for several miles.
So funny 😁, This is at the very top of my ' next car list ', got an old Fabia 1.6 tdi at the moment, this next one could be my last car...... so i need to get what i want, i want an estate, dsg, but i really would like the Canton sound system and 4x4 !! I maybe pushing my luck on that one 😉
you are so true...also the same story here in the Netherlands.....the VRs , both the prtrol and diesel weren't even on the list on the previous modell!!!!
This car would be on my shopping list on colour alone. Love this green. :)
If only they hadn’t ruined it with that awful VW infotainment system- had to buy my Superb instead which really is great but too big for my needs. Great video as always, thank you.😊
Is it really that bad ? I've heard some things about them but at same time I had an E-tec Octavia on rental in Germany last week and it was a godsend, the navigation in particular. I did notice the screen was very hot tho.
I wonder if the facelifted petrol vRS is gonna be sold over in Ireland.
Skoda generally allow ‘special’ orders of some of the less common stuff that would sell here so I’d say they will.
Diesel is dead... Then try to haul 40 tons of goods with a truck woth a petrol engine. You will see the reason why diesel is still the nr 1 in goods transport all around the world but hey just tell everyone diesel is dead. It's all propaganda like saying EVs are the future yet in winter their range drops with 30-40%
I got back into my golf 8 tdi after having a golf 8 150 ps tsi as a loaner for 3 days and I thought my car was broken. It was so loud and felt like someone had put sand or grit in rhe motor. Yuk. But i got used to it again, and it is much punchier and frugal. Had to change sensors 3 times now....
Hoping that my petrol RS combi arrives this week. A little disappointed I went for Graphite grey over this green colour after seeing 1 in the flesh. Beautiful colour.
I have a 221 Combi RS 245,what a car, bit thirsty if your used to a Diesel but its miles better to drive. Not many fast estates in that price range, might go again? Depends on the price, love a sunroof though
Is that 2.0 petrol or the hybrid im torn between the 2
Just get the petrol 👍🏻
@@bruts82 hybrid does not make sense, even if you charge for free and drive electric it will take forever to offset the price difference and the dynamics are just worse.
What a pity to see it go😢
Got one of these on the drive (2015 model vrs)... and an ID3. The ID3 is always first choice. But I do need to replace the Octy with an EV that has a bigger boot. The Octy is close to unbeatable for practicality in a car of its dimensions.
Have you thought about an Enyaq as a replacement. The boot is surprisingly large.
@@chrishart8548 yes, ideally I'd like something a bit more sporty and I'm not a big fan of the SUV shape, but in the current used market I will probably end up with Enyaq, ID4 or Ioniq5.
We have one from new in 2017 not a combi but a hatchback and we love it just as much as the day we collected it. Ive upgraded our 2nd car on a couple of occasions but we cant part with the RS. Honestly think we could have it until it stops driving which will be never as they are bullet proof 😂
That colour is fantasic!
I owned 6 octavias, 5 of them combis. Great cars but there's no way I'd go back to them from the enyaq
They’d probably last longer than the battery 😊
TSI 4X4 204 HP SportLine next Year 😊. Last week in Eco mode fuel consumption was 4.6L (190hp).
I can 100% guarantee you that if they came without Bridgestone potenza tyres on it will make a massive difference. I’ve had two mk3 and a mk4 all saloons and they’ve all been the same, take the Bridgestones off and it’s noticeable straight away. I’ll be ordering the new facelift saloon but I buy petrol
What do you go for normally?
Same here, I am running P Zeros now and the difference in the wet is amazing
I used Goodyear Eagle and PZeros. The Bridgestone isn’t to bad in the dry but any damp or wet roads and chocolate makes a better fire guard! I like Michelin also. There’s a guy on here called Jonathan with a page called tyre reviews, fantastic page and that’s what made me change tyres even though they weren’t worn down. Frustrates me that when you order a new car you can’t choose which tyres you would like because currently ŠKODA are putting on either Bridgestone or Goodyears. I’ve seen brand new octavia’ with both makes of tyre at my local dealer waiting for prep
🫡 Excellent Review. Excellent Car. Farewell vRS TDI you will be missed.
Its definitely a chapter in your life. Once the family flies the nest you will be using a 2 seater for a while. Then grandchildren arrive......the SUV is now the order. I love my 320hp SUV for those times I'm alone.
Great car Nobby. Good review. Shame they are going to stop making it..
Delighted with mine Mark! Where do I go after this 🤷🏻♂Not quite 5l/100km but maybe that's just first 2 weeks in sport mode!
Go back to 1930s Skoda was in same class as Jaguar Mercedes, 1970s Wheel barrow jokes, in 2024 I have driven three As hire cars and honestly they feel premium over Volkswagen...
Legends never die!
Thanks
Appreciate that, thank you.
Great review Sir…
Skoda do seem to be a bit better at style recently whereas VW (ID range especially) are a bit poop in the looks department ;)
They should stick an extra tax on big SUVs ..that might encourage people back into estate cars , which are more practical. Keep up the great reviews.
What would be classed as a big SUV . The Koroq is actually smaller than the octavia
Give it over why should the tax rate increase on so called big SUVs just cause you like estates.
I had a superb combi sportline great car but just to low for getting in and out off.
Changed to a Rav-4 so I can just slide my self in to the seat much easy on my ageing back.
Hi there, how is the ride quality in the back ? It's a very long time since I had an Octavia vRS, loved it, but it was hard in the back seat. Belfast to Cork regular trip. Alternative is superb sport line plus 150......
Considered buying one at Christmas last year but when you add on a few options it was the guts of 55K which was a bit much, I also felt the interior was a little cheap in places
Nice car tho
Nah at 55 it’s just too much 👍🏻
Estate/wagons from any manufacturer are so underrated. The Skoda is better in every way than the equivalent VW, but all are very much overpriced and usually unreliable in the medium term, but that's VAG products in a nutshell these days.
Is it true that the sound system in these Octavias really aren't good for all of us with a keen ear for music? I mean, with Audi we have the likes of Bose, Lexus = Mark Levison what's the equivalent for Skoda, and do they even have an updated stereo
Yes you can buy an upgraded sound system
the car is also in nice irish color
Is that the same 2.0 TDi engine in the Golf GTD & Audi A5 190 bhp diesel?
I had a skoda Octavia diesel, it was great. Until the dual mass flywheel went at 35000 miles from new. But to be fair Skoda paid 90% of the cost of a new one. Didn't put me off Skoda. I had a Citigo, which was better than the VW Up i owned. Now I have a Fabia estate, and that's brilliant.
In my city I saw an advertisement for a 2022 skoda rs diesel with a mileage of 40 thousand.
In your opinion, is this a high mileage for this car? warranty for another two years.
Have you had any problems with the car other than the dual mass flywheel?
Thanks.
Hello Mark, not related ( except it’s Skoda) but can you say when you will be testing the new Skoda Superb. Waiting to see what you think of it before taking possible purchase further. Thanks
Will be driving it on Tuesday, hope to have a video out that evening or possibly Wednesday.
Thanks for the reply Mark. I look forward to that and what you think of it.
It's not that I don't like the Octavia but the reliability issues are so many these days that I just can't put my money in this brand anymore. I used to have 3 Skodas, all Combi until the dreadful 2016 model when each month I had to go to the dealer to fix a problem or another. Regarding the TDI, except the 1.9 TDI, the newer ones are just not that good and, if I was to get an Octavia, it would have been with a 1.5 TSI most likely, not the TDI.
Can you compare the Mercedes GLS 450 d Amg Line with the BMW X7 40 D
So many times over the decade when my family or needed another car iv almost... almost bought a Skoda Octavia RS TDI, genuinely. I know this is something I will regret into the future. I suppose "you cant drive them all".
Got the 4x4 version. As good, if not better than the 320d Touring I had before. Certainly better vfm.
In my city I saw an advertisement for a 2022 skoda rs diesel with a mileage of 40 thousand.
Your opinion is whether this is a high mileage for this car? the warranty is still two years.
Did you have any problems with the car?
Great looking car.
Combi. Sorry. Is the SW or Estate in Ireland ???? Cheers.
So elegant
Sad times! 😢
The best Taxi in the world ever. RIP ,TDI 😢
Far from it
5L/100KM is savage,, wish my petrol car could sniff close to this
Pitty these cars don't have some sort of screen controller, the touch screen so cheap covered in smudges.
but... the facelifted version still keeps the engine in the RS right?
Petrol only
I think you might need to back further than 20 years on the Skoda/VW debate. In 2004, an Octavia was a better car than it’s equivalent Golf/Bora cousin.
You’re probably right, was trying to think / subtract / drive 😃
Nah, just get an MG5 EV for £15k! Built like a tank; ultra reliable; decent range. More tech than any equivalent fossil car too.
I love mine.
How do you know you’re Daddy Cool!? You drive a Nardo Grey b9 Audi RS4 Avant! 🤣🤪🤪👍
Only 20 bhp more than my Ibiza Cupra, so a no from me, unfortunately
If Skoda get rid of the diesel cars, I for one will nevet buy another Skoda.
Is that a custom colour?
No it can be ordered as a normal colour.
@@NobbyOnCars what's the name of it? I guess it's just an Irish option? I've only seen Hyper Green and Royal Green
I love wagons! Unfortunately, the United States of America is the capital of the world in wagon hate. Nobody buys wagons here.
Getting the same everywhere else now. I've got a diesel wagon and an EV Suv. Not sure what the future is for the diesel wagon. Not sure I will even drive it again. One is a mondeo the other is a Enyaq,
Estates are great, population getting forced against their will to switch to SUV.
Beasshhht 💪💪
One problem! DPF…
I have had my Fabia 1.6tdi since new (2010) and the DPF has caused me zero issues, i do understand that some do, but i have not, been a great car and its well over 100,000 miles now, best car i have ever owned, but i do want a VRS tdi Octavia VRS next.
Crying shame R. I. P. VRS Tdi
had 4 vrs cars , i did love them right from mk1 1800
which was one of the best , wheel spin on the front
is annoying as octavia is a longish car and when
you put you foot down at the lights all the weight goes
to the rear , on a shorter car not as bad say a golf ..
best skoda ive owned is superb sportline plus 276 ..
you cannot spin it , even in the wet , and at just over 5 seconds
its a great sleeper , its only 80kg or 100kg more than a vrs,
no its not as nimble on twists roads but its not bad though ....
and you think the octavia has a big boot ?
you never owned a superb ....ha ha
Wierd one as you will still be able to buy a Diesel Superb with Real Knobs
True
Had one not a bad car but cheap plastic everywhere horrible infotainment and very loose back end great mpg
and wonder why you didn't put the back seats down? just one of the reasons I want to buy a wagon!!!BTW all of you, dudes, making rewies on wagons almost never do it. what's wrong with you? Don't you think someone wants to take a quick nap sometimes, driving more than 10 hours on the road. My MB 320 TDI,2008 model was perfect for this 🤷♂
Why don’t you go into a Skoda showroom for a lie down?
@@NobbyOnCars as silly is your video, as silly is your answer. To sit down and drive doesn't make your video worthy. Driving is a personal feeling and what I was asking is practicality
@@MrLuba6a couldn’t care less what you think dude 👋🏻
Diesel dead LOL.
I have a 2022 vRS tdi 4x4.... I strongly suggest you try one of those!! Bags of grip, power off the line, great MPG... what more could you need?? Mine does have wireless charging, but it can be a little intermitant at times.
This is exactly what i am looking for in my next car, but i want the estate version and if at all possible a previous buyer who spec'd Canton ?? Highly unlikely i know, but would be looking for a used one about 3 years old with low miles. ..... oh and DSG. Not asking for much i know 😏
What is your mileage now?
