Hey Paul. Test drove it last week. Agree with the fake sound but I believe there is an option to turn it off somewhere. Found it quite engaging for a fwd car and optioned up there’s nothing that comes close with such a nice powertrain. Agree that the digital cluster is a bit hit and miss and the sunroof controls are weird. But for the money it’s great value.
I don't own a Skoda but I always keep an umbrella in my driver side door just in case. Has come in handy over the rainy summer we just had. So, if i had a Skoda (and I would definitely consider this new Octavia) , I would definitely use it.
I took delivery of one of these 2 weeks ago (a wagon). No volume knob? The LH roller on the steering wheel adjusts the audio volume. I agree with the comment about the DSG, by the way. It is the most refined auto I have ever driven, torque converter or dual clutch. I wouldn't have bought it without the "Premium Pack" which, among other things, allows the driver to create an "Individual" driving mode with that ridiculous fake engine noise turned off. Once that is selected as "D", using the selector to toggle to "S" gives the Sport mode without the engine noise. Annoyingly, it always starts up in "Normal" mode, which has the fake noise, but not as loud as in Sport. So, at every start up, press "Set" key to bring up shortcut for turning off the auto engine stop/start. Then press the "Mode" key and select "Individual". Apparently it's possible to get into the OBD port with a suitable device and turn them both off permanently. Regarding road noise, It is a bit noisy on coarse bitumen but it doesn't really bother me. It's a pity there's no option for 18" wheels though.

Hello from the Czech republic. I don't know, what is the pricing in Au, but we don't consider the Octavia as a rival to the Mazda 6 or 508, those are D-segment cars, this a C-segment wagon, competes with Golf Wagon, Focus Wagon, i30 Wagon, Corolla Wagon etc. Althogh it is definitely more spacious than some D-segment cars, but that is the long-term Škoda strategy- to offer a slightly bigger car on a basement of a smaller segment. But other than that, I love your reviews, you are doing a really good job.
Here is Australia, we don't get most of the cars you mention as the competition for the RS wagon... so here, the direct competitors are the Mazda6, the 508, the Golf Wagon (although we only get the 110TSi version and the R). Those are pretty much the ONLY wagons on sale here. Which is ridiculous, but 'smart' Aussies seem to go for SUVs instead.
@8.40 - the umbrella in my Karoq is below the front passenger seat. Why it's not in the door I don't know, as I thought the idea is that a wet brolley can be stowed in the door to dry without adversely affecting the vehicle, or getting the upholstery wet. Also it takes up space for what used to be ( in my Yeti ) a shallow drawer for maps etc. Not a very clever Skoda idea.

Again thanks for great review.
VW Australia have had barely any Golf stock for last few months. All new Mk8 Golf about to finally get released in Australia now. I’ve seen a few dealers advertise that they have the GTi in stock. Golf R not in Australia until early 2022..
Paul, are you able to test how accurate digital speedometers are? I rely on my Navman GPS indicated speed more than the analogue & digital speedometer on my 2012 VW Jetta. With speed cameras prolific around Australia it's imperative reliance is assured on the indicated information at hand.
Any idea when Skoda Connect will come to Australia, enabling full use of capability of App etc. No traffic light monitoring in Aus I also discovered after purchase
I've owned a previous RS and it was a ripper. I agree it had edge. Glad to see they finally got rid of the handbrake, it always looked cheap for the price point.
Love watching your work Paul. Particularly enjoyed your take on the RS Octy. I'm in the process or buying either one of these or the new I30N and just can't seem to come to a conclusive decision. I wouldn't normally choose a hatch and If I could order a fastback N, I'd probably grab it without a 2nd thought. Obviously there's no fastback in the 2021 model so that got me looking at the '21 Octavia. I did like the previous models but never quite sold on the style. Now I am, and the sedan/fastback is without a doubt one sexy looking car. It just doesn't have the engagement that I love the I30N for. How do I choose! If only I could buy both LOL.
Decent rig for those wanting a little more practical room over a Golf GTI. IMO all VAG cars have high levels of fit and finish. Talking to a guy the other day who looked at my Mk3 RS Occy wagon and said " how's the dodgy skoda treating ya"? I replied absolutely fantastic love it , How's your stodgy Ford Focus? Broken down anytime lately ? 🤣 he replies, just had its second gearbox and it 3 years old. Ah yeah ok mate 🤣🤣
I think all this car needs is a ecu tune done to give it the bit extra thrill it requires to live up to the RS badge it dons... throw on an upgraded pod filter and few other small stage 1 bits and pieces and it should be a blast to drive
Great review Paul.
Think you've helped me decide that I'd prefer a used superb sportline or Scout for similar cash.
I'm in a similar position. Love the new interior and steering feel of the Octavia, but the space and extra power of the superb for same coin makes it hard to knock back. Just no steering feel in the superb is the real drawback.
@@MarcSneddon not to mention the all wheel drive. I've got a second car for weekend blasts, so a relaxed family cruiser is perfect for me.
@@deganellis yeah, I've got the V8 for weekends too, I'm just being greedy and want it all. Lol.
@@MarcSneddon ha! VF2 redline! You?
Beautiful 😍😍😍
How good is it?!
@@CarExpertAus Absolutely stunning
I have always wished they would bring this out in AWD. I upgraded to a Superb Sportslline. It's awesome, but I miss the size of the RS.
Fwd just can't get the power down properly. You can spin the wheels so easily in these cars. This vrs would be soooo much better as AWD.
Enjoying your review method keep it up 👍🏻. 15:40 What you can do with these cars is unplug the little induction actuator to get rid of the annoying fake noise, just remember to tell the dealer to ignore the obd error, otherwise they will plug it back in for your convenience.
I've seen on other reports that there's a off switch buried in the control menu somewhere
@anthony d can you share this please? I've got one and really really want to get rid of the stupid noise. on the old car it was OK because you just chose a different mode, but this one defaults to normal mode every time which is so annoying.
Knurled roller on left of steering wheel also does volume.
What a looker both inside and out! I wonder if my wife will let me trade our Alltrack in for one :)
How does Alcantra wear over the years? Is it durable and easy to keep looking good?
Is it an RS or a VRS? Or is the "V" now silent?
VRS in the UK because Ford wouldn’t let them use RS.
@@unintentionallyfire Now it makes sense!
We just use RS in Australia :-)
@@unintentionallyfire why are Renault allowed to in the UK?
Nice, low appearance? It looks like it's been raised. Are cars meant for the Australian market shipped with higher suspension?
“Is the umbrella a gimmick?”
Then goes on to moan that he can’t stand outside because he’d get wet.
Simply clever 😂
Hiya Paul. Thanks for that great review. I'm going to take one for a test drive next week, dealer I know said to take it for a couple of hours and go up the curvy mountain roads to get a good feel. Ill let you know what I think. I did notice when you were talking about places to store mobile in front, you then opened glove box but didn't mention the 'mobile phone holder insert' that is designed to be placed in the cup holder (you see it on right hand side when you open glove box - I only know cause when I first sat in one they had it in cup holder and I asked about it). Again thanks for great review.
Please also do a review of Jaguar f pace Paul
Will do once we get our hands on an updated one.
I owners one of these a few years ago. Highly recommend
can you do a comparison between this and the golf R wagon ? not many good reviews of the golf R wagon.
Nice reviews, Paul. Can you please suggest be best driver assistance cars under 50k budget with good fuel economy?
Any idea when Skoda Connect will come to Australia, enabling full use of capability of App etc. No traffic light monitoring in Aus I also discovered after purchase
I've owned a previous RS and it was a ripper. I agree it had edge. Glad to see they finally got rid of the handbrake, it always looked cheap for the price point.
Another wicked review
🙌
did you get to drive their double glazing optional one? does it insulate sound better?
Can’t wait for the M3 touring
The only downside on the I30N is the interior built quality. Other than that it sounds and drives much better than the Octavia.
@@zakootajin umm and the lack of space compared to the Skoda.
Hey Paul, can you please do a Kia Sportage review? I really want to see what you think about it.
I would find the umbrella useful except in my model it’s in the back left door so it’s not much help
Build like a tank?...I think that should be reserved for the Volvo’s especially when they were built in Gothenburg. Nice review !
Decent rig for those wanting a little more practical room over a Golf GTI. IMO all VAG cars have high levels of fit and finish. Recently sold a Golf GTI performance edition 1 and looking at something for my wife soon, definitely one we will consider. Paul how does this compare to the Superb 206 sport line?
It feels more nimble than the Superb. But it’s much noisier inside in terms of road noise.
I own the Superb, the main difference is better insulation to road noise, limo level leg space, bigger boot, 4WD lets you put all the power down, stage 1 tune takes it all the way to 280KW. It surely is big but doesn't drive like one.
@@zakootajin stage 1 tune takes it all the way to 280KW - for why,are there different speed limits in your area ?
If you own a GTI-R Pulsar do you use the umbrella?
Waiting for a *BMW X7* review from CarExpert👍
Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to film it when we had one through. We will try get our hands on another one!
It's a slightly dressed up Golf GTI, actually...
True!
When are you guys going to review the Ambition or Style?
Can you please make video of Toyota Highlander 2020
Great review!! How does this compare to a Skoda Superb Sportline 206TSI? I know there is a $10k AUD difference. Hope to see a comparison video for these 2 cars.
Superb is just a lot bigger, heavier, and has AWD, with more power and torque (it has the golf R engine). I wouldn't call the superb sporty.

Completely different car - not generally cross-shopped.
You forgot to include the Subaru Levorg for the competition in the sports wagon segment. Any chance for a review of one?
Of course! Forgot about that. Will try and get our hands on one.
According to Subaru Australia’s website, the Levorg is no longer part of their line up. I looked at one some time ago, and the 6 month service interval put me off, particularly as a low Klm user.
00:30 the Octavia isn’t a direct competitor to the Mazda 6 or the 508. That would be the Superb
was there a small button on the side of the remote?
Hi Paul, do a disco sport soon please?!
I may have missed this, but does it have the front mechanicalLSD as standard?
If not wouldn't you get the previous generation 245 which came with it?
I believe this does have the LSD
@@whatupyo7260 definitely has an eLSD but it's not clear if it's mechanical or not

Can u review toyota camry and honda accord
Going to have a look at the dealership this week.
Thoughts on the canton sound system?
It’s great. I wouldn’t spend $6500 on the option pack for it, but it’s a good sound system that comes part of it.
Very very poor this sound system, have a combi 245 Rs since April and compared with my father’s Bmw G21 330i Harmann Kardon sound system.......
