Great cars. But Their is one key difference that wasn't mentioned in this video. The cupra is AWD while the vrs is FWD. That alone gives a good 1-2 second edge to the cupra when launched. Cheers.

I've got a 1998 JDM Subaru Legacy GTB, Twin Turbo, manual, came with 280bhp and bilsteins from the factory. Favorite car I've owned, and I've owned multiple hot hatches/turbo imports. There's just something hilarious about the way something so large, gains speed so fast.

Just pick golf 7.5 R estate, defo best looking estate in my opinion ofc after RS6 but that is a different beast. The golf mk 7.5 has the best looks and sound (my opinion) wife happy, kids happy, plenty of space, and for a petrolhead with family perfect blend of everything.
A simple stage 1 remap and filter, plus a set of decent tyres like the PS4S’s or Cup 2’s and the Leon could be faster round this track than the RS4! I’ve had a vRS wagon from new for 6 years now, about to change and those two cars mentioned above are in my short-list. Now, what to get!?! 🤔
What’s the obsession recently with having group tests, where virtually all the cars are from the VAG group ?? - testing for the best fruit by only testing apples - pointless - you buy the most expensive apple you can afford
I totally agree. But I think they make so many decent cars across all their brands it's hard to find others from outside the group that are on the same level across all categories, from tech specs to interior finishes.

For £4k you could get the VRS remapped to pretty much the same output, as it's pretty much the same power train, and save yourself a packet! The Cupra does look better on the outside too tbf but the Skoda interiors are surprisingly upmarket and always with the practical Easter eggs!
Put the same 4k into the leon cupra and it can easily reach 360ps , Although both cars are bulit on the same platform "mqb" The leon cupra has a bigger turbo (is38) which is the same used on the older golf r mk7.5 and s3 The vrs, golf gti, uses the "is 20" Gear ratios are different on cars fitted with is38 which is better for acceleration. The leon cupra have better aero dynamic Better locking diff Better suspension Better brakes Better gearbox ratio Better turbo Better exhaust I can go for ever. the point is the leon cupra is the best bang for u buck car. And btw i own a leon cupra my friends have skoda vrs and i have beat many tuned skoda vrs while my cupra was stock.
Good shout, the Cupra Leon is a better performance car for sure. It was always hotter than the VRS and the GTi, more of a golf R rival but the Octavia is cheaper and does the practical stuff very well, better in some regards although I think the latest gen Leon estate actually has a bigger boot!? Is it AWD too? I didn't hear that mentioned in this vid but could have missed it. I know the prev gen was fwd in the hatch and AWD in the estate. The weird thing about Skoda is that they have a performance brand but the quick Superb has always been their quickest model, in a straight line at least but has never been a VRS. The Superb 280 TSI also tunes up to 360ps with a stage 1 and you used to be able to get it in SE L trim which has no performance styling or badging at all or even the posh rims from the laurin and klement range topper, just an anonymous dad wagon! That appeals to me as a perfect sleeper, although it does mean you'd need to do more to the mechanicals to get good handling. And it's a bit too big to chuck around British B roads... And it had the old 6 speed DSG. So, Cupra it is then! 🤣🤣🤣

Not a fair comparison really....... not by a long shot. The Cupra has a 25% power advantage over the Skoda and AWD!!!!! You could use the 4K to put a load of lovely spec on the Skoda......... and have it mapped!
A VRS with a stage 2 + downpipe and some NGK goodies pushes around 330-355 hp and 520 nm easy without losing reliability. Some DSG fine tuning and it's an absolute sleeper.
No one is buying an estate for racing though, better functionality would trump track performance differences that are probably not noticeable on the road anyhow when it comes to buying decisions. between two similar "warm estates".
That is SUCH a mistake that they don't offer manual. I was just about to call the dealership to inquire about the stock... VRS test drive it is, it seems.
Not really a good comparison since both models can be specified with different engines and different drivetrains - you should have compared comparable offerings not a 2WD Skoda -v- a 4WD Cupra.
They are the same car... same engine.. same drive train, Just get the Skoda and tune it. Plus what sort of limp wristed launch was that from the driver in the skoda....
Octavia is the prettier car and the leon is impressive, but in the real world the vrs diesels have the midrange grunt in every day driving (in my humble opinion).
Used to own a limited edition octavia vrs estate a few years ago. Was quite nippy for a diesel but I think my mk7 Golf R-line is a bit quicker than it was now. Ps. Where can I find the video of the fabia vrs going round the track

I dont really get why anyone would get the skoda, if you care about performance get the leon, if you care about milage, get a regular/hybrid skoda I got the cupra cause its by far the best bang for your buck when it comes to new performance estates in that price range

The Cupra is also 4WD, hence the big delta in 0-60.

not really, 4wd makes a huge difference, and the suspension/ride is also way more sporty in the cupra, not to mention it looks better
