I was wondering why I could not set the heat pump lower than 61 degrees and you answered my question! I thought there was something wrong with the remote, but knowing that the heat pump won't go lower than 61 is good to know. (It double beeped and I wondered why that was the case.)
Thank you I finally got some answers, also my landloard changes our heating use to have a furnace. Now we have one of these, it does the living room kitchen , separate rooms bathroom and bedroom , nothing for the basment. Will only one heat the whole house?
I may have missed it but you can change the installation vane settings too. In the latter half of the video you're standing under a mini-split next to a wall. When the remote Off button is pressed you can change the installation vane settings by pressing Wide Vane button. I am thinking this tells the unit to stop checking temperature of the wall its installed next to. By default, it is on the center setting that scans the largest angle.
You're right. Depending on the unit model some of them have a lot of detailed options You can set for where to blow and for some of them you can tell it where to sense or how to sense. On some of the cheaper units a lot of those features are not there so I guess it depends a little bit on the model.

I use my mini-split in my workshop. Keeping it at 59F all winter when is is 10F outside in not required or very smart. Is there a way to override the control temperature set point?
I totally see your point. The only way to override that would be to get a different type of thermostat control for the unit. There are several kinds out there and some of them might actually go below that setpoint but I haven't encountered this. Most people that use these units in their workshops either have them off or they have it set down to the lowest set point which like you're saying may still be a bit of a waste just for a workshop. One thing you could try to do is set the fan speed to the lowest night time setting which would limit the capacity of the unit and may not be able to even achieve 59° although it's set to it.
I've set the fan speed to level 3 or 4 and kept the temperature unchanged the whole day. What I've noticed is that the indoor unit repeatedly blows at high speed for a while and then stops blowing for a while. Is this normal?
Yes. Great observation by the way! The typical reason this is happening, your unit is running in the heat mode on the high speed that you've set, then it might go into defrost which changes the operation mode and then it resumes heating cycle once the defrost cycle is complete.
Great question! Your statement is correct that the temperature on the remote is your set point that you want to set the room to. But you don't have to touch the fan in the heating mode. You either select a speed of your choosing and I talk about it in the video or you set it to auto which is the general recommendation. If you set the fan to auto the system will automatically choose the correct speed for the fan. Also note that the fan will stay on on its own after the heating cycle has ended. This is to mix the air in the room so you haven't even temperature and to continually sample the air accurately. This feature could be turned off permanently and can't be undone.
Great question Gene! When you're in the hearing mode you set the temperature setting and then you can choose the fan speed between night time, 1 to 4, or auto. You can't turn the fan off with the remote when you're in the heating or the cooling mode of operation. There is one way to do it on the board so the fan does not run in between the cycles of heating but that can't be undone. And that's something you want a service technician who is licensed and qualified to do for you.

How do we know what humidity it is set to or does it stop dehumifying once it reaches a certain percentage say 40 percent? Or does it keep running all the time in this mode? And if so how low will the dehumidification go to? If there is no setting I guess the solution would be to leave it in dehumidification and just put it on a daily timer no?
Great question. The dehumidification setting doesn't have a an actual humidity sensor or setting. The unit goes through a preset cycle. With the addition of certain controls like thermostats with humidity sensors some units can control actual humidity setpoints. Are these the same two lights that light up when the unit is in operation on the front of the unit? If not they could be something internal on the control board. Please let me know so I can help you further!

Ted Churn, this is an excellent question! The dry mode of operation is dehumidification only. In the dehumidification mode of operation your unit will do a lot of moisture removal from the air and some cooling. The temperature in the room will go down some but not as much as if it were in the cooling mode. In the dehumidification mode it's important to note that there is no humidity percentage setting that you could maintain. That unit goes into a preprogrammed sequence of operation with no regard to the actual humidity in the room. Uncertain units with humidity sensing thermostats you could potentially accomplish this but not on these with the remote control. If you want to geek out a little bit you could just leave your unit in the cooling mode of operation and leave the fan in the auto mode which is going to run very slowly unless it has to ramp up to maintain temperature, or put it in the lowest fan speed which is the one with the ear 👂 symbol, below speed number one. This will be air conditioning with the lowest fan speed which is in essence the same as the humidification.
I have three indoor units and only one remote. I am having a hard time understand how to adjust each unit because one of my rooms is much colder than the rest of my house. I can’t warm it up.
Taylor Smith, first of all if the indoor units are all the same type or the same series your remote most likely we will work with all of them. Keep in mind that you have to point the remote at the unit and turn it off and back on to receive the input from the remote or just leave it on and change the settings. Remember to listen for a beep in response from the unit on the wall to confirm that it received the new input from the remote. I hope this helps. If you're having further issues it could be because the remote is not compatible with the other units, or there is another technical issue or something to do with the wiring or communication wire. The new Mitsubishi air-conditioning remote control I did watch all the RUclips how to setup the time and day but no one did give any explanation on to change the format from 24 to 12hours Am/pm …. No one did explain even the Mitsubishi company didn’t give explanation… and no information on user manual. !!!!!! why why ????

Yes, check power to the unit. Make sure the breaker in the panel is not tripped. Make sure the power disconnect outside is on and if there is a surge protector it is working and not tripped. Make sure when you turn the unit on it is pointed at the unit and the unit responds with a beep. Count if there are any blinking codes on the unit.
The old version of the remote has symbols and the sunshine is for heat. The new one is using words like heat so it's very easy to understand. You use the mode button on the remote to cycle between the heat cool dehumidification and auto modes.
Yes. It only affects the communication of the remote to the unit when you press a button. The remote doesn’t send commands on its own, the unit regulates the temperature and all other settings based on the last command you gave through the remote.
How can i shut off the motion sensor on the bottom of the inverter that slowly turns back and forth. hate it. makes just enough noise to be so annoying when trying to sleep.
Odd, I've had my unit for three years and have never been able to hear the eye rotating. I am sitting four feet from the eye right now. It may be an issue with that particular unit.
This sounds like it would require a service call. You can do some investigating yourself and find the source but most likely you will need a qualified and licensed HVAC technician to come out and diagnose this for you. Please let us know if you need further help.
For some strange reason, the "Heat" mode is not available on my remote (SG15J: it looks just like the one in the video ): I can select Cool, Dry, and then (when the Hot mode should come up) it will skip to Fan mode. When I insert the batteries, or practice a reset, for an instant I can see that the Heat Mode icon on the display. But they it won't let me operate it. Any idea how to solve this??
@@neilwallace4597 Yeah, it would appear that my remote was not intended for my air conditioning unit, but for a slightly different model. It still works, but with one missing feature.
I don't know if his remote can be locked. I'm going to go into have to check the instruction manual. But these units can come with a thermostat that has a setting and you can lock out the entire thermostat so not settings could be changed or you could just lock them one by one such as remove the ability to change the temperature or change the mode of operation or the fan or the louver settings. It's actually very detailed with what you lock out.
What is the smart setting? How can I set a temperature so that the unit will shut off or on by itself if the set temperature is met . I’m not sleeping because it’s too hot in the room but I need the heat on during the winter.
If you turn the unit to heat, and set the temp you want, the unit shouldn’t go more than 1.8 def F up and down from the set point. Keep in mind that the unit measures the room air temp at the intake which is at the top of the unit. That maybe different than the temp you feel somewhere else in the room.

@@girlnyc1597 That is possible and there's also a chance that LED lights on the control board underneath the surface might be leaking some of the lights through. I've not seen this myself so I really can speak from experience.
How do you put it into Fahrenheit? I'm stuck in Celsius and doesn't go above 31c, not warm enough. Holding down both - and + while holding down reset, resets the remotes programming, not F or C temperature.

I'm so sorry, this is something I should have shown because it's extremely easy. When you slide down the face of the remote if you pull it past the buttons the batteries will be exposed at the very bottom of the remote.

Hello. I observed my 20K BTU outdoor 2 zone and noticed that when only one zone is calling for heat and the temperature set point is reached, the outdoor unit fan stops. The indoor head fan keeps running though. I thought Mitsubishi mini splits supposed to run continuously... Is it normal that the outdoor unit stops working all together when the indoor temp is reached?
Yes. That's perfectly normal. The outdoor unit stops because otherwise it would overshoot the temperature. The indoor fan continues to run on low to circulate the air and sample the the temperature accurately. This also helps filter the air. Great observation!
I have set the weekly timer. If I find it is too cool/hot when in room can I manually adjust temperature? Do the main temp buttons over ride the timer settings or visa versa?
I believe you have to "turn the ON timer OFF" according to the manual. It's a bit hard to follow. But that's what I remember from setting it before. So sorry I don't use that feature and most clients don't so I'm not well versed. That's the one thing that is hard to grasp and not very functional.
@@garypitts5570 You are right about these units being so confusing. The last version that they came out with after the video is even more easy to use than the previous ones. So they're making great improvements on that. I haven't seen people not buying these units because of the remote primarily because homeowners have the option to replace the remote with several thermostat choices including Wi-Fi devices so they can use these units from their phone while in bed or away. 😃 The biggest reason people keep buying these Mitsubishi units is because they are so well built. They lost a long time and they save money on their heating and cooling bills and keeps the occupants very comfortable inside.
I have the same system with three zones, when i put them on ac mode they will work for a bit then 14 blinking lights starting happening, what does the 14 blinking green lights indicate?
@@mikesmith-wn7uc you may need to call a tech out to diagnose it. Sometimes that's due to something else and that's just the surface symptom. Worth a service call to a trusted local company.
I figured it out. I think using the end of a paper clip stuck the button marked clock in a depressed position. I took a pen and kept pushing on it until it came back up and the display returned, but thanks for replying.

The unit shouldn't be unless you're pressing buttons on the remote and sending an input to the unit. Are you sure someone is not playing a prank on you? 😃

Does the remote need to be pointed at the wall unit when changing temperature setting or other settings? There is no indication on the wall unit to confirm the desired temperature for example. In other words, Can the remote and the wall unit be 'out of sync' ?
It can't be out of sync. But it does have to be pointed and the only indication on the wall unit that it received the new command is a short beep. If you don't hear the beep the command has not been received by the wall unit from the remote.
@@kyawhla1534 great. That makes it a multi zone. The blinking means that each unit is in a different mode of operation. Just so you know, all units have to be in the same mode of operation. They are: heat, cool, dry, auto. We recommend either using heat or cool. Both units in the same mode.

Thank you. It must be said this hand controller is one of the most unintuitive I have seen. Generally, User Interface design is not the strong suit of Mitsubishi. Just look at TV set hand controllers too. These are used as examples of bad design in UI design classes. Having said that, the units are reliable, and effective though you have to be careful to use them "reasonably" if you don't want surprises on your electric bill.
You're correct about the design not being the most intuitive. They're newer controllers already are more intuitive and they use the words heat cool dry out of rather than the symbols it's not already a good step. Their instructions are getting better. As far as the usage cost from my experience with designing, installing, servicing and repairing these units, they are the most efficient when designed and installed correctly and maintain correctly. If the wrong unit is used in the wrong application they can usually cost a lot of money to operate.
why does the machine turn off when the rooms heated, although i don’t have it on auto and no timer on, like i’ve got it on the four bar speed fan, like i want it to blow out heat continuously, but seems once the room heats you hear no fan going, and feel room go cold
This varies by model. If you can tell me what outdoor unit and what indoor unit do you have I could probably give you more specific answers. But in general the reason that happens is because the unit could be going into a defrost mode or something to do with the algorithm in the machine.
The fact that none of Mitsubishi's remotes include a basic light to read the display at night is bonkers. Keep these units out of your bedrooms unless you want to wake your spouse every time you turn on the bedroom light to adjust the air conditioner.
Jason. Very true. A light would be nice. In reality it depends on each person and how they want to use it. Some people set it and forget it. They only have to adjust it during the season changes to turn it on and off. And some people like to adjust it multiple times a day and sometime during the night. In those case a light would be an excellent feature.
When the temperature is get below 60 at least in the Pacific Northwest where we are located the colder air along with the humidity in the air can cause parts of your house especially where the air is stale and there's no air movement to develop mildew. This damage is the walls and the structure and is unhealthy to breathe. If it was 60° with great ventilation and air flow it might not be a problem if the air is dry. But that's not the case in most situations. So it depends on what part of the country you're in and the conditions where you are this temperature recommendation might change for you.

We don't need to know who you installed a system for etc... Be more direct, say what people came to hear. You say about 1 minutes worth of content in 13 minutes.

The best solution for programming is to get the MHK2 thermostat and use that instead of the remote. You could also get the kumo cloud adapter, sensors, schedule on the app, etc. Let me know if you want us to help you with that! You can respond here to shoot me a text.

hello, mine's a slightly different model- earlier I guess. I've never used this before, the remote functions all right and I"ve set it but-- no heat. Anything I can check before calling the landlord?
Yes, check power to the unit. Make sure the breaker in the panel is not tripped. Make sure the power disconnect outside is on and if there is a surge protector it is working and not tripped.
Make sure when you turn the unit on it is pointed at the unit and the unit responds with a beep.
Count if there are any blinking codes on the unit.

Sunshine thing is heat. Set everything else to the auto, the swirl icon. Yeah Japan! :)
The old version of the remote has symbols and the sunshine is for heat. The new one is using words like heat so it's very easy to understand. You use the mode button on the remote to cycle between the heat cool dehumidification and auto modes.
Does the placement of the remote in the room affect the function of the unit?
Yes. It only affects the communication of the remote to the unit when you press a button. The remote doesn’t send commands on its own, the unit regulates the temperature and all other settings based on the last command you gave through the remote.
How can i shut off the motion sensor on the bottom of the inverter that slowly turns back and forth. hate it. makes just enough noise to be so annoying when trying to sleep.
Odd, I've had my unit for three years and have never been able to hear the eye rotating. I am sitting four feet from the eye right now. It may be an issue with that particular unit.

This sounds like it would require a service call. You can do some investigating yourself and find the source but most likely you will need a qualified and licensed HVAC technician to come out and diagnose this for you. Please let us know if you need further help.
For some strange reason, the "Heat" mode is not available on my remote (SG15J: it looks just like the one in the video ): I can select Cool, Dry, and then (when the Hot mode should come up) it will skip to Fan mode. When I insert the batteries, or practice a reset, for an instant I can see that the Heat Mode icon on the display. But they it won't let me operate it. Any idea how to solve this??

How do you lock the remote so it can not be changed
I don't know if his remote can be locked. I'm going to go into have to check the instruction manual. But these units can come with a thermostat that has a setting and you can lock out the entire thermostat so not settings could be changed or you could just lock them one by one such as remove the ability to change the temperature or change the mode of operation or the fan or the louver settings. It's actually very detailed with what you lock out.
What is the smart setting? How can I set a temperature so that the unit will shut off or on by itself if the set temperature is met . I’m not sleeping because it’s too hot in the room but I need the heat on during the winter.
If you turn the unit to heat, and set the temp you want, the unit shouldn’t go more than 1.8 def F up and down from the set point. Keep in mind that the unit measures the room air temp at the intake which is at the top of the unit. That maybe different than the temp you feel somewhere else in the room.

@@girlnyc1597 That is possible and there's also a chance that LED lights on the control board underneath the surface might be leaking some of the lights through. I've not seen this myself so I really can speak from experience.

Yes. I think the lowest setting is 59 or 61. That is a minimal amount of heat and perfect for that purpose.
How do you put it into Fahrenheit? I'm stuck in Celsius and doesn't go above 31c, not warm enough. Holding down both - and + while holding down reset, resets the remotes programming, not F or C temperature.

I'm so sorry, this is something I should have shown because it's extremely easy. When you slide down the face of the remote if you pull it past the buttons the batteries will be exposed at the very bottom of the remote.

Hello. I observed my 20K BTU outdoor 2 zone and noticed that when only one zone is calling for heat and the temperature set point is reached, the outdoor unit fan stops. The indoor head fan keeps running though. I thought Mitsubishi mini splits supposed to run continuously... Is it normal that the outdoor unit stops working all together when the indoor temp is reached?
Yes. That's perfectly normal. The outdoor unit stops because otherwise it would overshoot the temperature. The indoor fan continues to run on low to circulate the air and sample the the temperature accurately. This also helps filter the air. Great observation!
I have set the weekly timer. If I find it is too cool/hot when in room can I manually adjust temperature? Do the main temp buttons over ride the timer settings or visa versa?
I believe you have to "turn the ON timer OFF" according to the manual. It's a bit hard to follow. But that's what I remember from setting it before. So sorry I don't use that feature and most clients don't so I'm not well versed. That's the one thing that is hard to grasp and not very functional.

@@garypitts5570 You are right about these units being so confusing. The last version that they came out with after the video is even more easy to use than the previous ones. So they're making great improvements on that. I haven't seen people not buying these units because of the remote primarily because homeowners have the option to replace the remote with several thermostat choices including Wi-Fi devices so they can use these units from their phone while in bed or away. 😃 The biggest reason people keep buying these Mitsubishi units is because they are so well built. They lost a long time and they save money on their heating and cooling bills and keeps the occupants very comfortable inside.

Have you checked the troubleshooting manual? I don't recall that specific code. I could look it up when I have a chance.

I'd have to look that up and help you further. That's not something we have ever come across.
I figured it out. I think using the end of a paper clip stuck the button marked clock in a depressed position. I took a pen and kept pushing on it until it came back up and the display returned, but thanks for replying.

The unit shouldn't be unless you're pressing buttons on the remote and sending an input to the unit. Are you sure someone is not playing a prank on you? 😃

Does the remote need to be pointed at the wall unit when changing temperature setting or other settings? There is no indication on the wall unit to confirm the desired temperature for example. In other words, Can the remote and the wall unit be 'out of sync' ?
It can't be out of sync. But it does have to be pointed and the only indication on the wall unit that it received the new command is a short beep. If you don't hear the beep the command has not been received by the wall unit from the remote.

@@davesherlock1314 the remote doesn't read either. It doesn't red temperature at all. Only the return air sensor in the unit reads room temperature.

@@kyawhla1534 great. That makes it a multi zone. The blinking means that each unit is in a different mode of operation. Just so you know, all units have to be in the same mode of operation. They are: heat, cool, dry, auto. We recommend either using heat or cool. Both units in the same mode.

Thank you. It must be said this hand controller is one of the most unintuitive I have seen. Generally, User Interface design is not the strong suit of Mitsubishi. Just look at TV set hand controllers too. These are used as examples of bad design in UI design classes. Having said that, the units are reliable, and effective though you have to be careful to use them "reasonably" if you don't want surprises on your electric bill.
You're correct about the design not being the most intuitive. They're newer controllers already are more intuitive and they use the words heat cool dry out of rather than the symbols it's not already a good step. Their instructions are getting better. As far as the usage cost from my experience with designing, installing, servicing and repairing these units, they are the most efficient when designed and installed correctly and maintain correctly. If the wrong unit is used in the wrong application they can usually cost a lot of money to operate.
why does the machine turn off when the rooms heated, although i don’t have it on auto and no timer on, like i’ve got it on the four bar speed fan, like i want it to blow out heat continuously, but seems once the room heats you hear no fan going, and feel room go cold
This varies by model. If you can tell me what outdoor unit and what indoor unit do you have I could probably give you more specific answers. But in general the reason that happens is because the unit could be going into a defrost mode or something to do with the algorithm in the machine.
Is the remote a thermostat?
Not this type. The temperature is measured as the air enters the unit.
The fact that none of Mitsubishi's remotes include a basic light to read the display at night is bonkers. Keep these units out of your bedrooms unless you want to wake your spouse every time you turn on the bedroom light to adjust the air conditioner.
Jason. Very true. A light would be nice. In reality it depends on each person and how they want to use it. Some people set it and forget it. They only have to adjust it during the season changes to turn it on and off.
And some people like to adjust it multiple times a day and sometime during the night. In those case a light would be an excellent feature.
Why is it unhealthy for your home to go below 61 degrees?
When the temperature is get below 60 at least in the Pacific Northwest where we are located the colder air along with the humidity in the air can cause parts of your house especially where the air is stale and there's no air movement to develop mildew. This damage is the walls and the structure and is unhealthy to breathe. If it was 60° with great ventilation and air flow it might not be a problem if the air is dry. But that's not the case in most situations. So it depends on what part of the country you're in and the conditions where you are this temperature recommendation might change for you.

The best solution for programming is to get the MHK2 thermostat and use that instead of the remote. You could also get the kumo cloud adapter, sensors, schedule on the app, etc. Let me know if you want us to help you with that! You can respond here to shoot me a text.
