Let’s explore the history of the Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin, anciently known as St. Leonard stands prominent in the centre of the village of Broomfield near. Chelmsford, Essex.
When the original Norman church was built in the late 11th century, Possibly around the time of the Domesday Book of 1086, the village was known as Brumfelda", "Brumfeld" or "Brunfelle", respectively.
The church was likely built on the site of an old wooden Saxon church which existed before the conquest.

I would have loved to look around, the church is so beautiful. I have visited many times in the past, I did spend a while in private prayer on Thursday. But my timing was not right and I didn’t want to disturb anyone during that time. But I would love to revisit, and perhaps do a small follow up on this film.
I have held St Mary’s very warmly in my heart for a long time. Ever since I was boy.

Some 60 years ago I lived in Broomfield and was a choirboy at the church. Prior to the extension of the churchyard and the building of the rectory in Butlers Close their was a gate whichich led on to a footpath/bridleway which eventually went to Broomfield Hospital. This was known as Dragons Foot Lane. Most interesting video.Thank you.

Born at St John's.
Lived in Beehive Lane in Gt Baddow. Petersfield Broomfield.
And before I left for university, 7th Avenue, Broomfield.
Now I live in Gt Notley.
