After many initial negotiations, Gibraltar ended up getting supported into Valencia, as arranged by Barcelona, despite my attempts to keep them alive. I have never seen your channel or heard of this game before, but you damn well better bet that I'm about to spend the next three and a half hours watching this video because the algorithm never misses.
Hi, Freiburg here. Amazing video, can’t wait for part two. Just to add a little context from my point of view to someof the stuff that was explained: -Bremen and Rostock didn’t join the Wheel alliance as early as you mentioned it, the initial plan was to gobble them up along with the Bene, and take their dots for ourselves. So there would have been more chances for me to get a dot, which is one of the reasons why I pushed so hard for peace with the Vikings, there would have been less opportunities for that, had we went to war. They were placed under Wheel protection when tensions with the Vikings were at their highest, and we wanted to be sure that Northern Germany wouldn’t fall to them. I also wanted to preserve alliance stability, and thought people would be more likely to stick to the alliance if we focused on the original goal, which would have led to us growing stronger quickly, instead of being forced into a defensive position if war had happened. How well that worked, I guess we’ll see in part 2… P.S The Wheel alliance was definitely massive, but we never included Genoa or Dijon. As for Naples, that’s another story.
I was the Marseille player in this game. As it turned out, building a fleet was an ill-advised move. However, I felt I had to do it in order to secure my part of the French alliance. The Bordeaux player had his eyes firmly set on expansion by some as-of-yet specified means, so I attempted to dissuade him from attacking me by making myself less of a threat to him by building a fleet instead of an army. This proved to work for a while, as the French alliance had issues with the Dijon player right off the bat due to communication issues. The French alliance would focus on them for the moment. As they worked out how to proceed, the Iberian Peninsula momentarily turned into a thunderdome in Spring 1642 that I was deeply concerned with. The Bordeaux player understood the need to intervene to secure the southern border of the alliance, so I got involved in negotiations. At one point, there was a serious plan to convoy the Corsican army into Occitania to put the Barcelona player on notice with assistance from the Genoa player, if not convoy them directly into Barcelona with further assistance from the Baleares player. However, the situation evolved too rapidly to commit to such a course of action; by the next day, the situation had been resolved between the Spanish players. In the end, this resulted in a DMZ being established between myself and Barcelona in the Gulf of Lyon. This proved beneficial in the long run for the French powers, as the Baleares player would take Barcelona shortly afterwards, ensuring no single dominant power would emerge in Iberia to seriously challenge France for the rest of the game. By the time that situation settled down, however, the Dijon player had been forced out of their home center by the Paris player, setting me up to be forced out at the end of Fall 1642. In recognizing this, and seeing with exceptional likelihood that Dijon wouldn't be able to recover their supply center or simply march into Genoa unopposed, I communicated with him that he should just bounce the Parisian army in Dijon to cut his support to the Bordeaux army, thus keeping me in the game for the beginning of Spring 1643. If he wouldn't be making it to the next phase, he could still spoil the victory of the players that would have eliminated him. He gave his approval to this plan in the form of a salute emoji reaction at that time. When the Fall 1642 orders came in, however, he committed to taking Genoa anyways and _somehow_ got in unopposed. I still don't know how or why Genoa didn't try to defend their home center at the time. Regardless, my time was up, and the Bordeaux player was able to take my center. As far as I am concerned, despite the short time frame I was on the board for, I might have inadvertently served as a kingmaker in the region. As a consequence of my negotiation with the Barcelona player in Spring 1642, the remaining French powers were essentially free to act with near-impunity against its northern neighbors for the rest of the game as they consolidated further, while Iberia remained fractured and fighing amongst themselves and incursions from Morroco for the rest of the game. Not bad for my first-ever game, if I do say so myself. :)
The wheel members have been talking about attacking me firca while. And while Rome didn't commit to immediately attacking me, Trieste was seriously considering moving to Milan. If i get back into Genoa, while there is and army in Milan and potentially another army coming through Switzerland, i can never leave my dot, so getting a friendly army of Corsica to help would be impossible. I tried talking to Sarajevo about threatening Trieste to keep myself safer. I didn't believe Dijon waa still interested in the game or attacking me, so i decided i could risk leaving the dot open, to stay safer from the wheel.
there's a fascinating parallel between real life vikings who converted to christianity blazing fast in the middle ages, and our band of vikings who instantly become a church of bumble-ism or whatever it's called
1:44:18 Holy Balkan Empire had already formed at that moment. They wanted to build fleets to attack Italy (builds were changed qith negotiation), work with Moldova in some way, and expand around Black Sea, which would probably lead them to conflict with Turtle alliance (Russia)
The Oxfiles Part 1: 3:06:08 Hi Oxford here! I am so happy that I specifically caused "lets not spend too much time talking about Britain." Edinburgh (Edi) has a really good chronicle of everything that happened, so I hope they also share or any of my other lovely British Isles players, but I can try here to briefly explain what was going on for me, and why my motivations are so unclear 😂 I am a new diplomacy player and so although I had a ton of fun in this game, I also made lots of mistakes and learned a ton. Without luck and a conversion to bumblism leading to several popes brokering truces for me I definitely would have died. This was truly a crazy game! Anyways, even though I had worked with Edi and London in the Spring to kill Plymouth, come Fall I needed to decide which one I was going to work with because they were fighting. It seems obvious now that the best option would have been to create an alliance between all of us (maybe that happens later 😶), or at least choose one side and stick with it. But I was inexperienced and easily swayed this early on in the game. Initially I was working with Edinburgh to kill London by supporting Amsterdam into London and letting Edinburgh into Plymouth. Then London made a last minute plea to let them live in Plymouth which convinced me. So I changed my moves to supporting London hold in Plymouth, hoping my ally Amsterdam would still get into London. Instead nothing went my way: Ireland stabbed Edi by going to Iceland and London stabbed me by risking to bounce Amsterdam, letting them to go up to two and me feeling betrayed. At this point I had now secured my reputation as chaotic instead of inexperienced. I also had betrayed Edinburgh (by working with London), London (by willing to be so aggressive against them), and amsterdam (by renegging on our deal). Yes those are all my neighbors... whoops! Yet never resign in chess or diplomacy, we'll have to see in part 2 what becomes of me and the British Isles. 🇬🇧

hi guys, arkhangelsk checking in! this game peaked hard i loved every moment of it obviously, i didn't get much screentime in this video (or anything earlier on in the game for that matter) (i really didnt do that much lol), but towards the mid-late game, you might see me pop up a bit more :) wink wink also rip balkans and mediterranean and the entire east side of the board barely covered at all but to be fair you can only talk about so much with whatever corner of the board youre playing so if anyone wants to make videos covering these then theyd be so fun i want this series to be as long as it can get since theres just so much to talk about and i dont think that you can do this game proper justice unless you cover absolutely each and every single minute detail that happens but with what youve been given and your spheres of the world this is a great analysis into your positions and suffice to say i definitely learned a whole lot more than what was just going on in my corner which is always a welcome surprise cant wait for the rest of this series!!!!! itll be great i know it
Lux: OK it's more or less fair. It's interesting to hear a different perspective on going ons inside the Wheel. The part about the back and forth discussions, I wasn't really afraid of a stab when I argued for not attacking you, because the alliance energy was going strong (and I was getting a 2nd dot anyway). But I genuinely played for the benefit of the alliance as a whole at this point. I was seeing the Vikings+CW forming, and I also saw that it was very awkward for the Wheel to not step on its toes while defending. Besides, how the hell were we gonna build fleets with the Viking fleets in the area? I was a believer in the HRE at this point. Also while I'm here, I'll take credit for the convoy meme. I think I was thinking about Arkh opening and how it inevitably means killing Novgorod. And I said Arkh you should totally go to Aleppo, it can be done.
2:39:01 Corsica does go with the convoy, but I (Genoa) didn't do it, because i thought i was safe and Dijon had no intentions of attacking me. I did throw a support order to show that my intentions of convoy were real. But i wanted to stay in Ligurian to be able to convoy Corsica and stay safer from the wheel members. As far as i was concerned wheel members still had an eye on my center, and went back to discussing an attack on me after i called them out (several times)
Also it have had something to do with Sardinia offering me a support into Corsica, so i thought their unit was free to do something and they would take Corsica immediately if convoy succeed. So my other move was moving back to Genoa l, which would have worked better for me. I still wanted to keep option of convoy open, but was worse in almost every sence from by that time my perspective. And worst of of Trieste didn't even move to Milan, making my paranoia about the wheel pointless
Tunis here, player who ended up staying in one center for the longest (ignoring the island armies whicu couldn't do anything). Keep an eye on it with orders because I got bounced and/or ended up being attackrd and needed to be support held sooo many times. Also at one point I belive all of my living neighbors plus some other people around me had ended up defending me from eachother. :elmfire: 10/10 game
I have one correction Cap't. *I* suggested we translate our catch phrase to Dutch instead of Latin, you did so and said "The issue is that Dutch is ridiculous". That is all. A fantastic game all around.
I'm surprised that I manage to watch this to completion within 24hrs, but I can't wait to see part 2 being uploaded. Great content, great commentary, great channel! I'm glad valefisk brought me here. Looking forward to the inevitable crossover episode coming! *_*

Hello From the original Spitsbergen, it was such a shame I had to be switched out since I was enjoying myself, but I missed one of the deadlines so got dropped :(
I think i remember commenting under the imperial diplo video that Ezio would love that map for the amount of stab opportunities. Good to see he has leveled up with the "stab" on helsingford. Telling someone to bounce in a confusing way, getting that way perma removed, then still moving to bounce knowing the move wont bounce. True genius on display 😂😂 The is great stuff overall. A part of me wishes you guys allies next to other, another part wishes you were direct enemies, and the final third part is happy with this as we get more context of the board! P.s. the day salt is able to legit team up with Ezio or Cpt Meme in a chaos/variant game is the day we see the fastest alliance sweep of a board with the filthiest stabs
Rostock here This started when I was asleep so this deal was already done This caused me and bremen to ally which migth also be a reason it did not happen
1:31:12 I think that's a bit too many wheel members. I don't think Naples joined the wheel, and i while i (Genoan) did mention joining the wheel, i mostly wanted to not get murdered. I don't think i became even an observer there
If you can, and I imagine this map certainly is, can you use a higher resolution export for the vid? I use YTVanced and can zoom manually anywhere I want when its all the way out: reckon you can do it at 1440p? Or even 4K for massive maps like this (assuming the map resolution is as big).
I can record at 1440p, but I'm a bit concerned that that'll make the territory names too blurry for people watching at 1080. That's kinda what ended up happening in the Hellenic video since Ezio was recording at that higher res.
@@DiploStrats??? That's strange: very counterintuitive as to me that doesn't make any sense, but I gotcha for sure if that's what happened in the past. It can look aliased/blurry to me as is, so not sure how a higher bitrate could be worse ideas put on as well. CQP(?) setting on OBS is the best imo, if not using Shadowplay.
That feature is also in normal youtube for everyone. I use zoom also A LOT for these videos. Unrelated but I'm a premium user btw. Used to use vanced, but I felt like its interface n stuff was not as good as vanced did it. Now I have submitted to my capitalist overlords to be a consumer slave sending them a constant stream of passive income.
early game south east from what I remember: I think HBE did form in the first year, probably even the first turn. just without a formal name. Daghestan, Aleppo, and Circassia didn't talk ever, Georgia is speaking a lot, and decides to try and work with their neighbours, who aren't talking, so what ends up happening, is that Georgia is trying to discuss for the lives of 4 people, with a bit of imput from Astrakhan. everything in the Caucuses other than Azerbaijan - Aleppo was not arranged, and was a stab. this is all from memory, and might be wrong
I'm enjoying your channel, but one suggestion I have is not to tell us what happens before you show the moves/results. i.e. Tell us the plan, show us that it did or didn't work, and then talk about what happened and why.
This is something I'd really like to do with this format, but it's kinda difficult when there's so much going on and so much to cover each phase. I feel like if we leave everything on the pre-phasing cliffhanger, we're going to forget to come back round to some of it afterwards... I'll see if I can lean more into that style in ep2 anyway though :D
This is how they do it normally, but because this is a MONSTER of a game to recall, and due to their personal involvement, you should expect some bouncing around.
Anyways, 2:39:08 I can confirm that what happened here was that Genoa *supported* me in rather than convoying me, resulting in the failure Apparently, this was intentional on the part of Genoa as they didn't think Dijon would walk in
On province count it's definitely not the biggest - this is actually a smaller region of a much larger map called Imperial! But player count is the claim and I think that one is correct - 81 players is quite a lot for a diplomacy game :D

Warsaw here, it's been an experience.
Edit: on the subject of Prussia building a second army, I believe I didn't say I was fine with it, my last statement was something like "I can't dictate what you are going to do, but I'm going to be unhappy if you build an army."
I have never seen your channel or heard of this game before, but you damn well better bet that I'm about to spend the next three and a half hours watching this video because the algorithm never misses.
The algorithm remains undefeated.

Substitute Circassia here, you haven't seen me yet but you will! (curse that fleet build...)
Hi, original Circassia player here. Sorry for the fleet.
Hi, Freiburg here.
Amazing video, can’t wait for part two.
Just to add a little context from my point of view to someof the stuff that was explained:
-Bremen and Rostock didn’t join the Wheel alliance as early as you mentioned it, the initial plan was to gobble them up along with the Bene, and take their dots for ourselves.
How well that worked, I guess we’ll see in part 2…
P.S The Wheel alliance was definitely massive, but we never included Genoa or Dijon.
The Oxfiles Part 1:
3:06:08 Hi Oxford here! I am so happy that I specifically caused "lets not spend too much time talking about Britain." Edinburgh (Edi) has a really good chronicle of everything that happened, so I hope they also share or any of my other lovely British Isles players, but I can try here to briefly explain what was going on for me, and why my motivations are so unclear 😂
I am a new diplomacy player and so although I had a ton of fun in this game, I also made lots of mistakes and learned a ton.
❤

CaptainMeme: face of a thug, voice of an angel and a damn fine Diplomacy player.
_So by averages, that makes him a decent bloke!_
Just messin around Cap, love to finally see this vid--I've been hyped
This is such a good series, and I’ve only seen the 1st part :). The sheer density of the board, the memes, it’s so much insanity and so fascinating.
This is insane.
Thank you so much for posting these.
I know I might only be 1 views, but these are my favourites (I still watched all your diplomacy videos, without being a player myself)
Same! (well almost. I have played a bit and only watched like half at most)
I just love watching the diplomatic ties shift constantly, and then the mathematical strategy planning ofcourse. It's long, but I'm fine with that when I do smth else at the same time.
Gooood I love variants. Already made a few variants maps (modified standard maps) myself.
@@BS-bd4xo I have played a few times against the AI, but seeing these vids are so nice. I also love variants quite a bit, the game has so much depth. So glad to have found it recently
hi guys, arkhangelsk checking in! this game peaked hard i loved every moment of it
obviously, i didn't get much screentime in this video (or anything earlier on in the game for that matter) (i really didnt do that much lol), but towards the mid-late game, you might see me pop up a bit more :) wink wink
also rip balkans and mediterranean and the entire east side of the board barely covered at all but to be fair you can only talk about so much with whatever corner of the board youre playing so
if anyone wants to make videos covering these then theyd be so fun i want this series to be as long as it can get since theres just so much to talk about and i dont think that you can do this game proper justice unless you cover absolutely each and every single minute detail that happens
but with what youve been given and your spheres of the world this is a great analysis into your positions and suffice to say i definitely learned a whole lot more than what was just going on in my corner which is always a welcome surprise
cant wait for the rest of this series!!!!! itll be great i know it
Lux: OK it's more or less fair.
I really want to give Dublin props for the stab, but they clearly already have all the props.
I've made it an hour in and we haven't even made it to builds yet, this is officially your best video ever! 😂😂😂
I love baffled Ezio is with "We Hoog" lmao
I just saw people randomly saying we hoog, and had no idea what they were on about. I'm surprised it has a real origin.
-Ezio
Tunis here, player who ended up staying in one center for the longest (ignoring the island armies whicu couldn't do anything). Keep an eye on it with orders because I got bounced and/or ended up being attackrd and needed to be support held sooo many times.
Also at one point I belive all of my living neighbors plus some other people around me had ended up defending me from eachother.
:elmfire:
10/10 game
I have one correction Cap't. *I* suggested we translate our catch phrase to Dutch instead of Latin, you did so and said "The issue is that Dutch is ridiculous".
That is all. A fantastic game all around.
This is gutbusting by the end, Cap pulling up with the clout AND FALLING SHORT is hysterical. I am pumped at this point for what's next.
I'm surprised that I manage to watch this to completion within 24hrs, but I can't wait to see part 2 being uploaded.
Great content, great commentary, great channel!
I'm glad valefisk brought me here. Looking forward to the inevitable crossover episode coming! *_*

True genius on display 😂😂
The is great stuff overall.

"France is a little less active than everyone right now" ..meanwhile in the caucuses
early game south east from what I remember: I think HBE did form in the first year, probably even the first turn. just without a formal name.

This is how they do it normally, but because this is a MONSTER of a game to recall, and due to their personal involvement, you should expect some bouncing around.
spoilers: corsica won
Sorry (I'm Cairo)
Anyways, 2:39:08 I can confirm that what happened here was that Genoa *supported* me in rather than convoying me, resulting in the failure
Apparently, this was intentional on the part of Genoa as they didn't think Dijon would walk in
Go vikings!
Nah not the biggest by a long shot. I played global diplomacy with friends it was epic.
On province count it's definitely not the biggest - this is actually a smaller region of a much larger map called Imperial! But player count is the claim and I think that one is correct - 81 players is quite a lot for a diplomacy game :D
