Lore Iron Warriors are vindictive, bitter, and incredibly spiteful.
They're just not whiny bitches about it, as the memes depict.
Classic example: Perturabo once told a space marine of his chapter that he didn't want to see his face again.
The marine decided the appropriate response was to go to the forges melt down an iron mask and literally put the still-scalding pieces on his face, fusing them together into a permanent fit.
No whining. No snivvling. No demands.
Just spiteful badassery.
Funny how she changes the quote from "better to die than to betray the emperor" to "better to die than to submit" when facing a chaos lord
A so by not submitting, is she also not gonna follow orders? cause that would be the logical endpoint of a statement like that and in that case would still make her an imperial.

One of my favourite moments in the lore is how Perty rage kills his adoptive sister Calliphone after she roasted the hell out of him and destroyed him with facts & logic.

@@tarektechmarine8209 You have to understand the Iron Warrior's logic. The dude bent the knee, which means he puts survival over strength, meanwhile she doesn't. These Iron Warriors would rather have a defiant slave they can mold into their own creature than a spineless thing that will break whenever they aren't around to prop it up. They think anybody that shows that fortitude can be convinced of their ways and their righteousness.
It makes sense from their perspective, as strange and backwards as it might be sometimes.

@@42Nightsyesterday I love how you make a brazenly widespread claim as if the Iron Warriors are a single unified creature that always behaves the same way 🤣 You are using a single example from a single novel. By that example I can refer to the Iron and Honour novel to show how they treat valuable slaves extremely carefully and even put them in stasis and take great pains to keep them alive.
Different Iron Warriors will act differently from others, and may apply their philosophy differently, that doesn't change the core of what they are. These are the top leaders of the guard in this planet, they are important and capable, and loyal or not, they can be used, however the woman shows more strength, specially after the lesson the Iron Warrior just imparted, showing she will stick to her guns when it comes, while the man is willing to give in. This particular Iron Warrior is going for the route that whatever endurance and strength she has can be turned to serve his own purpose, while the more callous approach will probably be applied for the plebs that they kill without remorse.
@@DaniMol fair enough, but I prefer the interpretation of the iron warriors that I know. This whole routine is so cliche and tired. Kill the "weak" (sensible) leader and spare the openly defiant and probably fanatical (since this is 40k) leader because.. she's strong. Yeah, maybe she'll turn to chaos and be a great slave...like 0.02% chance. way more likely she will just try to fuck you over however she can and will just cause problems. Its too predictable and just kinda lame
I wonder if the Captain knew it could be a test and chose to hedge their bets.
He knew his second in command would never kneel, so he did. If he was right and they were looking for someone who would refuse, the woman would go on to command.
If he was wrong, and they were just looking for someone subservient, then he would still be alive to lead the survivors.
However it went for him, the survivors would be better off.
I like this interpretation, feels oddly noble
If they were Kreigers: "Weakness is a..." boom boom. "Dammit, it's them. We'll be rooting them out for weeks."
Kriegers would've either ran or got heavy weapons, they aren't heavy 'r' word, they're pious in a way that their sacrifice means something. Although that close it would've been to late for the kreig to even lift their rifles.

Commanding them to kneel, after telling them that weakness is a choice, seems like an obvious test to me. The ones to kneel are "choosing" weakness, while those who stand in defiance will be rewarded with their existence intact
The test doesn't make a ton of sense though. If you kneel then you die, but if you resist then won't you also die? So it's like they want people to submit, but only... just "kinda" submit? What do they want out of these people? Say "Yes sir" while giving them the finger?
@@scottjohnson9799 Yes, actually. Cause saying "yes, my lord" while flipping them off is the best of both worlds to them. It's fealty and total loyalty, while simultaneously NOT showing fear or weakness, which they totally hate even more. Hence why he's dead, but she still stands in the end.

The problem is that the IW sound like they would kill anyone doing just that in every other scenario. They never looked or sounded like the kind that would respect defiant people.
Transhuman dread
For those that still don't get the ending:
The Chaos Lord stated he had come to rule the planet and reforge its populace into the strong, proud people they had been when he was taken from it to become a Space Marine. He said that generations of serving the Imperium had made them weak. The male officer chose to submit in order to save himself and his people. The woman remained defiant even in the face of certain death. Not out of blind loyalty to the Imperium, which she had repeatedly questioned throughout the episode, but out of her own pride. Note that before being told to kneel, it is the Commander that is defiant and the Lieutenant that stares at the Iron Warrior in awe.
The male officer was weak by their standards, and would not be loyal to the Iron Warriors if the Imperium returned as he was only serving out of fear. The woman demonstrated the "Iron Within" the Chaos Lord was looking for, and if her doubts about the Imperium were nutured would become a willing servant. The episode ends with her overseeing the remaining Guardsmen, the only one trusted enough to be armed, and the Aquila removed from her helmet.
The Governor betrayed them to the Xenos and she executed him for it. The Commander put his faith in the Emperor to save them and was rewarded for it by having the Iron Warriors answer instead. The Lieutenant repeatedly stated they could not rely on others to save them, only they could save themselves. Will she remain loyal to the Imperium that installed such weak, corrupt leaders? The Imperium that with all its might on the planet could not protect its citizens? The Imperium that didn't answer their call for aid in their time of need? I doubt it.

@@luisalfonso3271those are probably for the weak by the standards of iron warriors. A mortal who won’t kneel or be weak is far more useful in a military role and for being an example to the other mortals so they’ll be more useful. If there’s one thing the iron warriors are besides stubborn and methodical, it’s practical.
@@luisalfonso3271 besides the points already made - those abominations only seem to be present on the homeworld of the Iron Warriors. The roving warbands like this one wont be using them, and if anything, I do recall some vague mentions of not all Iron Warrior warbands agreeing with the use of them.
They dont like Daemons, and those things are pretty much asking for Daemon intervention
So wait I just realize how semi stable the relationship will be.
Sure the imperium will try to regain that world but by that time generations will go by and the city’s will be fortified.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that Iron warrior leader/warlord/(forgot the specific rank ) has the guardmen to also be trained to a iron standard. You know what worse than fighting the iron warriors fighting iron warriors who have their own regiments of iron guard who’s mentality fit with the iron lords themselves. Hell the iron warriors could Even patiently wait for those said iron guard to propagate male children so they have a fresh supply of space marine recruits who’s parents been fighting for their entire life.
The worse thing of course that this scenario is maybe impossible but fun to imagine.
Shit writing a book or fanfic about this planet and at the end you have scene of iron warriors primarch in the first time in his life in a long while feel genuine pride that a group of his gene sons did this. Well he won’t show much emotion but just walk over and give his gene sons a complement over this achievement.
The iron Warriors are big fans of fortifications.. and not every single turret need a marine behind its controls when there is so few of them. Same for menial sasks like storing or moving ammunition: mortals are a useful ressource.
Lowkey I kinda expected to see Perturabo in the last shot of this episode, even a nod to him.

We know that guard style formations can be trained and armed to the point of being a problem even for astartes. The Tyrant’s Legion in the War for Badab is an example of this. They even made the Charcharadons have to work for their victory.

The ending of this where the Iron Warriors are already fortifying the place before the sun even rose really reminded me of tts short of the Iron Warrior and the Imperial Fist trying to fortify/siege that sand castle as fast as possible lol

You’re partially right. She indeed is the one spared, but this Terminator Lord is looking for strength, people who are Iron Within and Without. The guardswoman’s defiance fit that description perfectly. And so *spoiler alert* it shows her standing, perfectly fine, and overseeing what’s left of her men, who are shoveling gravel and bodies.
She’s changed allegiances to a faction who has none of the weaknesses that the Imperium has.

produced*. He's part of a traitor legion, his armor is technically not in production any more. Newer models are being used by the Loyalist Astartes (granted on the TT, it makes no freaking difference)
For chaos space marine, if there wearing terminator armor it's because they killed the previous owner.
Pretty much every character (or person) that talks like this only acts like this around people they can easily take down.
Only Elite Space Marines or Warlords in their own right wear Terminator gear.
yeah as others pointed to have a terminator armor as a chaos marine, you really gotta deserve it.. and its often one of 2 cases: eitehr the guy is the bodyguard of someone MASSIVELY important like Abaddon, or he is a warlord himself and probably killed his predecessor that was the previous owner of said armor. Seeing as he is acting without other terminators around... he's probably the latter. Gotta keep in mind chaos guys cant produce terminator armor, meaning they are in very limited supply for the traitor legions (their only way to acquire new ones is to either steal some, pretty hard when they are usually looked after as relics in loyalist chapters, or if someone with a terminator armor becomes a traitor and takes his armor with him)

He says in the animation that he is claiming this world as his and that he will build the ultimate fortress. Did you think that iron warriors use their own labor to build everything?

In lore, the guardsman would be the one to die as the Iron Warriors desire blind obedience and the open defiance of the guardsman would have killed them.
GW doesn't care about lore though so it's probably the guardsman who lived. Also explains why the guy who looks like a comissar is the one who kneeled even though comissars are crazy zealots who would kill their own troops to hold battle lines and such.
@@fanficlover yeah, I didn’t like the fact that the commissar seemed to be the “weak” one. He’d have likely just started shooting as long as he was able, and if the guard beside him had tried to defect, he’d have shot her too.
He killed the Lieutenant. He spared the guardsmen because she was the only one that had iron in her soul which she demonstrated by standing up to him.

it is easy to talk about human weakness when you are a specially grown three-meter genetically modified warrior stuffed with top technologies
the main thing is not to hurt the feelings of these super soldiers, otherwise he will burst into tears or corrupt
well, he didnt talk about physical weakness here, but a mental one. And mental strengh is independant from any augmentations. besides, even the augmented chaos marines can be outmatched, the 40k universe is full of creatures that are physically superior to marines, without even entering psyker territory.
@@thorveim1174 this was my thought, the space marines are so sissy that I feel sick when I saw them for the first time in the short film "Astartes" I just screamed with delight, pathos, power, determination in every movement, but then I read Horus Rising and was disappointed in space marines completely

No, it's rare and very chanced like thing. They still need some form of gene seed that would be better spent making an actual marine rather than trying your luck at several.
Or be used for unimportant things like food or weapons and ammunition production. I mean I can't imagine the iron warriors would be stupid enough to take a world that cannot produce enough food to support itself, or enough ammunition to hold against an attack. It'd sorta defeat the purpose of taking the place to begin with.
Are referring to Perturabo's initial culling?? I don't think they have the numbers to sustain that. Plus I believe it was more of a punishment and a hell'uve way for him to introduce his standards.

She didn’t die. The test was to see who was weak in which by choosing not to submit she showed she was strong that she had iron in her. The guy who bowed however did die.
Love this animation. Id love for this to be cannon however i know games workshop has mid writing at best.
Which sucks because these people assimilating into the 4th legion is fairly believable as Perturabo only cares about cold effectiveness and would recruit people actively. Hell Perty vehemently hates the Chaos Gods to the point that he told poppa nurgle where he could shove it and proceeded to ram a photon torpedo up the emissary of nurgles rear. Its in their doctrine as the Iron warriors refuse to embrace chaos and routinely use demons as fuel for their engines.
The only reason the 4th legion defected was due to the fact that they were treated like less than garbage by their brothers, had their worlds taken, revolt on them, and were frequently used as cannon fodder. They never cared for anything but the iron within and a little acknowledgement of a job well done. Which is what made it easy for Horus to persuade them to turn traitor.
If you read the lore, if the 4th never defected, Horus and his rebellion would have stalled and never made it to Holy Terra. The heresy's success was solely due to the 4th. Shame Angron never had the nails removed and became a warrior poet he was intended to be; and double the shame that Perturabo never got the respect and acknowledgment that he rightly deserved. All he wanted was simply a "Good job Son" from Big E.

I know that power claw gripping the officer's (commissar's?) face must've hurt really badly, but theres something so unnerving to me about an imposing being with the strength to rip an ordinary person in half like a sheet of paper performing a comparatively gentle action like grabbing his face to get his full attention.
But which weakness does he mean?

To everyone saying its "Woke" for having "Strong Wamen" this is the 40k, it doesn't fucking matter, the sororitas is a thing, the sisters of silence are a thing, strong women are thing in the 40k for fucks sake, there have been many strong female characters in the 40k universe, this doesn't add nor change anything. And even though the iron warriors may have left the people of this planet to live I guarantee you the inquisition will be very much willing to castrate or just outright exterminatus the entire fuckin planet because the IRON WARRIORS, A TRAITOR LEGION WITH A CLOSE ASSOCIATION TO CHAOS, decided not to kill everyone. That's suspicious under anyone's goddamn book, and if the people miraculously escape or survive the inquisition it only helped them realize that the iron warriors were right all along.

I wouldn't have a problem with the whole "strong wamen" troupe if it wasn't the males that always die and/or put down. It's like they paint them as indestructible(don't even mentioned the books cause that's just words and not screen time. I know what happens to the sisters in the books). (I'll be honest I haven't watched this one or any in WH+ but it seems like it's following the same troupe) I just knew after the Irion warrior gave them their ultimatum the male guardsman was going to die there, regardless of what was choose. Every time I see a woman on screen chances are they are going to live while the males die or are made to look weak by comparison. Noticed in other newer series too like "Bad Batch" and "Halo" It's like they don't hold them to the same standard and want to prop them up. Can't remember the last time I saw an unhelmeted woman die onscreen that wasn't named.
I'm all for the strong women I just want them held up to the same standard as the men otherwise... yeah it's "woke".

I agree with you; in fact this Iron Within series is a fair example how you can have a strong female amongst a setting filled with clearly stronger beings without being super mary sue and having her double back flipping behind the terminator lord and one hit killing him like some crouching tiger hidden dragon BS from Rings of Power (ice troll scene is so stupid I don't think I was supposed to laugh as hard at that one). During the skirmish with the drukharii and the Iron Warriors she even had the guts to grab a knife and stab the lord in the foot knowing that there's a good chance he will just swing his sword downwards and wipe her out. It's not like the guard leader was some renown hero made to look lesser (like the MCU likes to do to their heros) he was just clearly an idiot who was watching his troops get blasted and literally smacked around by the Iron Warriors and hesitated to retreat and then displayed BOTH his lack of iron and faith in the emperor so of what use to any side is he really?

Easily suspect the guy to be killed here, I don't know the Iron Warriors a lot but they seem to value people who are courageous and brave no matter what side they are on. And still remain very untainted by most standards even in 40K. They are defenders after all so makes sense at least in my mind.

Problem being that they're your enemy, not to mention that the Iron warriors certainly had no respect for human lives in the great crusades when they were the good guys, but I'm sure they just got better after.

That only applies if you're on their side, they don't care if you're a strong woman, you serve no purpose if you're still loyal to the imperium, the dude literally had a reason, he probably had a family and somehow the woman is fine after condemning the entire planet to the rule of the iron warriors after not accepting.
