Although a decent amount of content was scrapped in generation 2 because of the hardware limitations of the GameBoy Cartridge, there were still some substitutions made to give the game that same Pokemon feel. The Bug Catching Contest was an alternate to the Safari Zone, but what does it take to complete everything it has to offer? Today we're going to find out how easily you can complete each bug catching contest in the Pokemon series. It still ‘bugs’ me that with Heracross, the Ledyba, Spinarak, and Pineco lines, Bugsy for some reason still only uses G1 Pokémon.
Bugsy is a Gen Wunner.
Most gen 2 gym leaders stick to mostly gen 1 Pokemon. Shout out to Faulkner using two pokemon from the same gen 1 line despite there being 17 new flying types before the legendaries.
I always thought it was queer how nobody in Morty's gym uses Misdreavus. Jasmine uses Steelix and Pryce uses Piloswine, for example.
Heracross is a bit too strong for a second gym, but I definitely agree for the other lines.
Connor Young I’d argue gen 2 Hera with terrible moveset isn’t more threatening at level 14 than the Scyther....

John, I can't believe you forgot to mention the background music in the National Park, which is to this day one of the best songs in the entire series. I used to put Silver Version on my Super Gameboy and listen to that song for hours on end while studying. Really chill tune.
Agreed, it's still one of my favourite songs to this day
And anyone else think the original GBC version is better than the ds version.
The original National Park music is some of the most beautiful and nostalgic chiptune for me.

The composer Go Ichinose is forever gonna be one of my favourite artists. Pokemon games from Gen 2 to present (aside from Gen 6 since he didn't work on it) wouldn't be the same without his music.
You can't put off your Gen 5 Oak's Quest forever, John.
Also I've attempted Ultra Sun Oak's quest but I have no patience and keep progressing, forgetting to pick up certain Pokemon, and I just kinda gave up for now. I'll retry on my next file.
Word of advice that can save you a good 20-30 hours since gen 7 has the gen 5 exp formula of higher level than the opponent = less exp.
SOS grind for a Salamence. Do it. Don’t suffer anymore than you have to
@@mr.krustykrust only issue is bagon is a 1% encounter and Salamance is a 1% sos rate. And to top it off usum bagon can only be encountered once per battle. To top it off that's a terrible place to grind for exp

Can you do a “how easily can you complete the pokestar studios?” Kind of video? I looove the pokestar studios, and it would be really fun. Also, a challenge you could do is strictly use only the rental mons, as you can use your regular mons in it and make it significantly easier.

OT: If anyone was curious, shinies can appear during the bug contest. I got a shiny Metapod in Gen 2 and despite obviously losing the contest, I didn't care. Plus I (smartly) threw it on Pokémon Stadium 2 as a kid so it's safely tucked in that cartridge forever despite the original games' batteries being dead for awhile.
I loved the bug catching contest as a kid. I tried it every time it was available, and still remember discovering that I could win if I didn’t take down the Pokémon’s health before catching it. I remember sharing that fact with all my friends, justifying to them that “it makes sense that the contest judge would look at the Pokémon’s health,” since within the universe of Pokémon, they wouldn’t know about “max hp.” 😂

Mind Crystal is also the name of a French ROM hack of HG/SS. It is actually a more difficult version, like you can't use items in battle, among others (if I remember correctly) ^^

I had a level 80 sunkern at one point. After a friend traded me a sunstone and evolving Sunkern, I remember being sad because Sunflora looked stupid.
I have no clue if you do video suggestions, but you should do a video (maybe even a mini series?) where you talk about the *Safari Zone* ! Every video could be titled something like _"HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CATCH ALL OF THE POKEMON IN THE SAFARI ZONE IN RED/BLUE"_ and then just change it as you see fit for the game you're going to cover.
I know the HGSS Safari Zone could be a good video at the very least due to how intricate it is.
