Glad to see you going forward Paul!!! People can complain about the length of a video all they want.. first world problems.. pause it, take a break, continue... do you Mr. Kirtley. Thank you for the content and wonderful knowledge.
Welcome back Paul. Your the only one in the bushcraft community that’s doing something like this which is amazing and hard to be a first in anything these days. We all appreciate what your doing and keeping your viewers/listeners in your thoughts. Wish you the best my friend and stay safe out there.

Here in Canada, during this pandemic, the outdoor life lovers look forward to the first long weekend in spring to head for the lakes, provincial parks national parks and forestry service campgrounds in droves. Thanks Paul, litter is an issue where I live as the lane became increasingly popular with walkers during lockdown though they aren’t really the source. As I litter pick here I noticed in increase in ‘hedge’ disposal of lunch bags and PPE,this was after nearby take aways and services were shut. It used to get me down but it is outweighed by the positive comments received when I am out there. Our local forest has now become very popular too, it’s great to see many more people enjoying the outdoors and I am encouraged by local groups who are proactive in bagging up what’s left behind. Education helps - schools taking children out to visit and enjoy / appreciate our outdoor places and then to be taught how to look after it in terms of cleaning up after ourselves. Last year my primary class were involved in a foreshore clean on the Severn estuary and the impact that had on many was huge, especially when the message gets home. Keep up the great Paul. Simon
Paul, massive thanks for the continued efforts you put into promoting outdoor knowledge and ethics! I will be looking forward to again receiving the benefits of your experience and expertise!
Hi Paul. It's good to have APR back, I really enjoy listening to your take on things. As a freelance instructor I am fully with you on your comments. Recently a six mile canal paddle returned two bin bags of rubbish and a trip up snowdon a carrier bag full and there was plenty more. Even our towns and city's can be beautiful if everyone looks after them. All the best wishes. Howard
Keep doing what you are doing Paul, It is filled with great content and as the old saying is if it ain't broke don't fix it. People watching who don't understand what it takes need to realise the content you provide along with the wealth of knowledge is provided by you for free, so again great work and thanks for all your sharing.
As a latecomer to bushcraft at 65 I've thoroughly enjoyed your educational videos, still much to learn, glad your back .To you and yours stay safe ,and long may you're road run.
When it comes to litter, I will pick up their crap, right in front of them just to make the point. Without saying anything. It makes a decent point. I've had people say thank you, and then i just say," i always carry a garbage bag with me when i come out, no problem". Hopefully it shames em enough and makes a point to pack out your stuff.
Had times in Scotland this year, lots of sites trashed by 4x4, I don't say they are not allowed, but they can take their trash away with them, please,, 🚮🚮🚮
An excellent return Paul, so well balanced about what can be highly emotive discussion, I think these subjects could not have been handled any better. Thanks again Paul, take care mate 👍🙂
Thanks Paul for bringing back the Q&A series. I'm from the USA and always enjoyed your answers, learned a lot. Appreciate your critical thinking. Hope you enjoy this series also.
Hi Paul Good see you back in Q&A mode, looking forward to more. Loved you laying out the complexity and time-hungry issues of putting out quality and relevant media. Most guys out there really do not grasp how dedicated and professional you have to be to produce quality media. well done!
"How do you remember things so well?" - 'Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.' ~ Zig Ziglar It's also always useful to make note that practice does not make perfect, it makes permanent - PERFECT practice makes perfection permanent.
Brilliant, Paul, specially the way you see things from different angles, like the 'cleaning up after yourself' issue. Looking ahead is so important for that. My mother taught me this as a child, camping in the wild wherever and whenever we could, so I'm well familiar with it, but a lot of people I know have no idea, so thank you very much for that!
OMG, Blast from the past! when this came up on my video subs list Good to have you back and you're looking fit & well, Mr Kirtley and lets hope you don't get too many 'Kit' questions, which seem to be the bane of the RUclips bushcraft pro :))
Haha thanks Martin. It seemed weird to cue the music again and do this but ultimately if felt good to post an episode with so much positivity around it.
It's great to have you back Paul. You explained very clearly about the pressures you face in providing content for us. Thank you for all that you do. Can't wait for your book and I'm hoping to be able to buy one of the signed copies. Will you be allowing Amazon to sell a kindle copy as well as the physical copy?
I watched most of this series and I have to admit I do enjoy how detailed you answer questions and practical answers so I am well keen to seeing more keep up the good work
Hi Paul, It's great to have APK back. With regard to the RUclips / Podcast production; keep it simple, don't make too much work of it. At the end of the day anyone who is really interested will filter through the content to find their particular topics of interest. Another advantage of keeping both platforms aligned is the ability to watch a bit on one platform and listen further on the other or visa versa.
Thanks Paul for this episode. I appreciate your opinions to these special topics. And I want to thank you for updating your online bushcraft course in the section fishing and navigation, I appreciate this a lot. Keep up the good work 👍 Greetings from Germany 🌲👋🌳
Paul, I really appreciate your insight! Someone has already suggested to you to consider indexing each video's timeline. It adds to your work but it allows the user to skip ahead to a specific question and skip those we're not interested--just a thought. Thanks so much.
As for Leave No Trace, you could post signs at all trail heads, hiking areas, any and all camping areas that basically says "If you don't want to see trash out here, then pick up what you find and don't leave any trash yourself." This is the reason that I prefer winter camping (snow and temperatures well below freezing). It takes care of the outdoor party type of campers that inhabit and litter the public camp grounds. If I camp in the summer, I prefer to go back country camping where you have to hike in a few hours.
Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it, great that you touched on the subject on LNT, not many people talk about these issues and even less shelter building, and irresponsible fire making. Keep well Alex
@@PaulKirtley 🤣 actually did and still bing watching a few more, currently watching the best camps, bannock and bear: Bergen’s river solo part 4, sometimes it’s nice to enjoy other people’s videos. ATB Alex BTW must pick your brain on a good coffee, I’m currently using Lavazza but always nice to make a change
Hi Paul. I tune in to your channel occasionally as I catch it and have the time. You have always had a great channel, you put a lot into it, giving of your personal time which you do not have to do - but I am sure a lot of people out there are appreciative of that. All that said, you cannot please them all. I know it for a fact, so I personally took to just doing my thing and people can either take it or leave it. As to litter etc., I and my brother came up with "Be No Trace" several decades ago, as a kind of one-up of Leave No Trace. Hence "Low Visual Impact", or "L.V.I.", in which not only is Leave No Trace practiced, but also Be No Trace - try to be as invisible to others as possible in the wilderness to allow everyone to have that sense of being all by themselves out there. The only place I have anything 'bright' is in my pocket or rucksack lid to signal ('Norwegian Orange'), and all clothing, rucksack etc. are of camouflage or earth tone colors. Keep up the good work. ATB from New England :-)
My suggestion is that you could prioritize the episode names for your podcast, since #AskPaulKirtley is mostly intended for that audience. On RUclips, you could do something like, "#AskPaulKirtley Episode 82 part 1", "Episode 82 part 2", "Episode 82 part 3", etc., since this is not uncommon on RUclips.
Hi Paul, thanks for starting these podcasts again! And thank you so much for your great and generous work! I Love to listen to the podcasts and watch the vids. Do you know already when the next part of „ask Paul Kirtely“ is going to be online? Greetings from germany
Love your videos Paul! Do what you need to do. You know your business, your process, and your capabilities better than any random person watching/listening. If they like it, they'll stick around if not, they'll go. I have seen youtubers put a disclaimer at the beginning in case you want to try to rant less. Doesn't people will even pay attention to it, but may help. "Disclaimer: This is aQ&A and mostly accessed as a podcast and therefore you won't see me doing practical examples. That being said, let's get to the questions." Thank you from Michigan and for giving me a source for educating my hubby and son without me preaching at them! :D
In Japan, it is custom to bring a regular (plastic) shopping bag and put your trash in it when you are out on a walk. I think a culture has to be nourished for this to happen. I remember that there were adverts in the 80s here in Sweden saying "Keep Sweden tidy, throw your litter in the bins" which sort of deviated to "Keep Sweden tidy, throw your litter in Norway" 🙂
Great to have you back 🤩 Missed your honest insights and yes also the rants 😋 As always so many more take aways than just Bushcraft. Completely agree with your thought on learning. Ideation without execution is just a fleeting memory. x
Paul, I recently enjoyed receiving your tutorial vids, thank you, time to practice. I do have a new question for your Q&A vids/ podcasts, how would you pack a more common rucksack without side pockets (PLCE), like the "Osprey Rook" a single tube with possibly a zip at the bottom?
Love your content. Thanks for sharing. Instead of one question per video or more editing and separate publications you could place links in the description to each question which take you straight there to the relevant part of the video. This would also help the search algorithm. And you can copy and paste these to a master list of all previous questions (starting from now). Hope this helps.
Amazing job as always, love your work and your genuine demeanour, a true wiseman if I ever did see one. Just wish there was more opportunities in the area I’m from (Norfolk). But since my discovery of your RUclips channel this year through TA Outdoors, I’ve now made it my goal to make the bushcraft ways part of my life more than ever. Always had a place in my heart for the outdoors ever since I was a Cub Scout and now more than ever. Keep it up Paul 😁👍
At last .... greatly missed. Welcome back & thanks for your honest rants & articulate replies to questions. If there is anyway you could index all your APK that would be a tremendous help, not only to be able to revisit & review your responses but to avoid many asking questions that have already been answered. Cheers Paul & look forward to the next round
Paul there's lots of practicals you've done before as well as Ray Mears and others on you tube, people just have to search and they will find. Or join the website etc.
So good to see you back, Paul! Excellent episode as usual. I wondered if you might have been up in Scotland looking at the woodland you were in. ;) Look forward to the next one. 🙏🏻
just because im early Im just going to thank you for this series. You are one of my inspirations for becoming an outdoor instructor (currently doing an apprenticeship) and im not sure if this is relevant to you at all but you are making a positive difference in people so thank you.
You can please some of the people some of the time but you cant please all of the people all of the time , . You do you paul and keep it up. Good on you
Hey Paul. As for tree and plant ID, in my experience, I seem to retain because of interest, but also, because of application. If I can relate their use, then, it's easier, for me, to remember the plant. Your Plant ID course is a beautiful system, as it identifies the species (pines, maples, birches, etc) but, also, some of their uses. It's up to us to research as many uses as available, because broad applications of pine, for example, are global: the sap, the needles, the woods: for medicine, fire, food, tools and equipment (glue), and shelter. If we look at that course as a botanical study, we will fail or get bored easily. If we look at it in a bushcraft and survival perspective, they make perfect sense. - Marcel
Hi, just found your channel very recently. Do you have any suggestions for first aid you should carry whilst out? I know its always best to carry a tourniquet, especially if you have any sharp tools. Cheers

That being said, let's get to the questions."
Thank you from Michigan and for giving me a source for educating my hubby and son without me preaching at them!
:-)
"I'm not sure we're out of the woods yet" - Wait, isn't that supposed to be a GOOD thing on a bushcraft channel?
Great to see you back Paul!
Great content paul good to see this back thank you and stay safe atb lawrence
Thank you so much. Usually listen on podcast but love your content wherever it is.
Thanks for listening
Great to have you back 🤩 Missed your honest insights and yes also the rants 😋 As always so many more take aways than just Bushcraft. Completely agree with your thought on learning. Ideation without execution is just a fleeting memory. x
Paul, I recently enjoyed receiving your tutorial vids, thank you, time to practice. I do have a new question for your Q&A vids/ podcasts, how would you pack a more common rucksack without side pockets (PLCE), like the "Osprey Rook" a single tube with possibly a zip at the bottom?
Lunch break viewing sorted tomorrow. Thanks! 😁
:-)
I'm very happy with the format of the show.
Thanks
Nice to see you back fella, always enjoy listening to your views on subjects people ask you😉
Thanks for doing these vids Paul! Great as always...
My pleasure!
Thank you very much!
It could put into a spreadsheet 1st, hum i could maybe volunteer to help?
A spreadsheet won't easily translate to a webpage but I already have some lists. Thank you for the offer though.
Thanks for your positive feedback on this.
Have you thought about doing a video on your upcoming book? Looking forward to reading it.
Yes, I should do something shouldn't I?
Great, thanks very much Paul!
My pleasure!
LEAVE NO TRACE.
If you have and show love for your neighbour as well as the countryside then you will tidy up after your self.
So love is the answer.
Very nice message.
Welcome back Paul. You have been missed.
Great to see you again on yt.
Paul there's lots of practicals you've done before as well as Ray Mears and others on you tube, people just have to search and they will find. Or join the website etc.
Thanks so much, Paul - thrilled to see your return to the APK series!
My pleasure!
Thank you Magnus. I'm glad I've provided you with some positive impetus. Keep it up!
Much better mini rant already feels like you never left. Good to have you back. Happy bunny.
More to come!
Glad your back!
- Marcel
You always have something sensible to say my friend :-)
Hi, just found your channel very recently. Do you have any suggestions for first aid you should carry whilst out? I know its always best to carry a tourniquet, especially if you have any sharp tools.
Cheers
