- Ten years ago Shaun Smith was an enforcer for one of the biggest crime families in Liverpool and embroiled in a war against a rival drug gang. Today, after a spell of five years in prison for firearms offences, he is trying to transfer those skills to the legal economy by working as a debt collector in the northern English satellite town of Warrington.

I just recently went through a gruelling court case where the man who kidnapped, tortured and raped me when I was a 12yr old boy, received life for what he done. It had nothing to do with gangs or anything but I completely understand and get why that lad would commit suicide. The shame is unbearable and let me tell you, it haunts you every night, every night!!

But, what you’re doing mate. Destroying the area they and you live in. The working class, council areas. Preying on the weak, that can’t afford to pay debts, they the people that leant it knew. Seeing the damage done to Nate by being sexually abused when he was a child was heartbreaking.
It was literally destroying him, so it was wonderful to learn that he'd got himself off drugs and was keeping working with his brother and no longer self harming.
I think I read somewhere he killed himself.

Despite his physical strength and aggression, he was hugely vulnerable, most of all to his own thoughts.
Far too many young lives are destroyed by abuse suffered as children, recognition of just how widespread the issue is and how to offer support and trestment as early as is possible should be a national priority.

Such an incredible man to come so far and turn his life around. I really understand what he's going through it resonates with me because I myself was sexually abused twice when I was in a children's care home. I too felt angry and used drug's, drink or anything I could get my hands on. Ended up in prison and when I came out I changed. I loved boxing but I wasn't that good but I also had another passion, music. I was a DJ for 10 years and now I produce my own music. It's a way for me to escape and lose myself in creativity. Respect to him. Great man! And thanks to anyone who read this comment.

Whatever future they wanted, it's their choice. My upbringing was shit according to people around me, and probably to me too if I think about it. But I have never let myself blame my upbringing for shit choices I might make later in life. Where I live the gun violence has gone up by alot and people killing people for nothing. They then blame this on their upbringings and their surroundings, but in the end it's their choice to kill people, not their surroundings fault. I was also brought up in these neighborhoods but still never killed anyone.

im the exact same as him, im 28 and been working my ass off to not do drugs or drink alkohol, 2 years off drugs, broke of all contact with my circle , ive been by myself and just walk my dog, pet my dog and smoke n chill, take a bike ride in the night with some chill music stoned. then instead of doing that shit no more. ive also cut myself like he has, but ive never hurt nobody that isnt harming me in self defence, even if i want to badly. I havnt done it and im living an easy calm good honest life being a good boy, and not a bad boy. Honestly, its much better like this. Took a while to get used to the ´´lonely´´ life but my dog. if i wasnt for my dog. i would not be able to stay as strong.

I grew up surrounded by drugs and crime and was taken into care but followed the same path.
I'm 45 now and have been clean 15 years, fucked off all the people I knew, moved miles away and keep myself to myself now, just me and my dog.

i wasnt sexually abused but when i was 12 years old here in philly i was jumped by 5 adult men with baseballs bats and left in a coma. i had a shattered skull, a midline shift of my brain and a brain bleed and now half of my skull is titanium. i suffer from ptsd even all these years later(im now 34)

To Nat Taylor, mate lm a 66yr old Aussie. Like you l was sexually assaulted when l was very young by by big brother. Like you l was soo confused about being a real man. When as a teen l trained in boxing, judo and karate then kickboxing to prove l was a man. I joined the Australian Military then past our Australian SASR Course and served 12 yrs in it, l even won the West Australian kickboxing title as a Heavy weight. But it wasn't until l retired for the military after 20 yrs and saw my big brother again and bashed him that l felt normal again. So l understand my friend. Please take care and find Please 🙏.
