I buy the expansions for the content but I pretty much skip the campaigns now. They have had histories of mad difficulty swings and spikes so I just break them up into single scenarios. Though I might pass on Next only because I'm still way behind on playing all the rest of the content I have to date and we've already done the majority of my favourite characters now.
I’m in Joey’s camp here, I had to have everything but I’m just wrapping on Red Skulls campaign. Love MC to death and it too has become my number 1 game of all time

Fun game. Have all the content. Need to get some time to try this expansion. Heroes and Viillians feel unique and on point. Lack of a deep story element is MC only weakness. Perhaps a true campaign, legacy product could be developed at some point. Nice review!
I just got the base game. I thought expansion boxes (red skull and thanos ones for example) solid provide a campaign. Am I wrong. (I haven’t got them, but I was thinking about it)
@@bahadraktas3418 Yes there is a campaign included in the big expansion boxes. The campaigns are OK but I personally don't think they add that much depth to the game (usually I will only play the campaign once). On the plus side, the big expansion boxes offer the best value so I don't really care if the campaigns aren't super engaging. Perhaps others disagree.
I'm not sure how to make MC have a strong story. The encounters are kind of like a single issue of a comic. The current campaigns are like a 5 issue story arc. The game would probably need something very rigid like Arkham Horror: TCG to have a stronger story. More rigid encounters that require the encounter deck to be seeded a specific way with less random elements to create a cohesive story.
Sorry this game is not as thematic as advertised. Example? captain marvel has equal attack and less defense than black widow. 🤪 Sold my copy years ago.
The hero abilities and their decks are thematic; however, it's not a Marvel simulation. Captain Marvel is built around energy attacks, being hard to knock-out, and getting bonuses from being able to fly. Black Widow is built around spying, preparing for the situation, and then executing a plan based on that. There are obvious constraints when creating a solo/cooperative board game with a mix of super heroes. Their power level needs to be comparable to work within the game world. Captain Marvel roflstomping through the entire game while Black Widow regularly gets shutdown wouldn't be fun. It's really not that different from the Midnight Suns video game where Carol and Hulk are brought down to the power levels of the other heroes. Outside of Crisis Protocol, Marvel Champions is as thematic as Marvel board games get. And, even Crisis Protocol flattens the stats so that there's a game that can actually be played with these characters.
Well a hero is more than just their hero card like Captain Marvel can energy channel for 10 damage which is more damage than any card in Black Widow’s kit.

By the sound of it, this game made a lot of people's top choice. I might finally give this game a try. Just kinda worn from the comic superhero theme.
