My car doesn't have a gas cap

No, but you should have a capless fuel system that relies on a spring loaded mechanism to perform the function of what the gas caps used to do. Just like any other moving parts, these can wear out over time. That being said, I would check the other possibilities first to rule them out before coming to the conclusion that this is what needs replaced.

    Great explanation!!

Thank you. Great explanation of the system. My wife's 2017 Escape has been giving the code. I replaced the purge valve and connected lines (or the Kraken as I called it). Worked great for a month, but now it's back to giving the code. The only noticeable issue is the old trouble starting after filling up at the pump. I'm thinking of replacing the canister vent solenoid next. Can you explain what happens mechanically when you fill the gas tank that causes the trouble starting? Does filling the tank cause a loss of the vacuum, and keep gas from flowing to the engine? If I crank the engine enough times, it eventually starts (for now). How is the vacuum created? Take care.

Most detailed video I have seen so far BUT I own a 2007 model that is getting this same code with no symptoms whatsoever. The car runs, drives, fills up and drives off afterwards perfectly fine at the gas pumps. Should I consider disconnecting the negative terminal of my battery to reset my computer in the sense that it could be a faulty code? The code has been showing up more frequently as time has went on and I've owned the car for a year now. Just makes me wonder which option I should consider trying first to fix this issue.

Thanks for the video. What worse can happen if this is ignored?

I’ve had a similar issue for about 8-10 months now. I think you’ll probably just experience some reduced gas mileage and perhaps slightly less power. I haven’t noticed any major issues with my car so far

If you have a codep140 will it shut the Vehicle down ?

Only if its restricting gas enough to kill the engine.
