- On November 26, 2024, the BIO-SUSHY project hosted its 1st online training session to present advancements in Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles, focusing on lignin safety and toxicity in bio-based packaging. The session brought together experts and stakeholders from academia and industry to explore the project’s key findings and methodologies.
Moderated by Michele Ponzelli (AXIA INNOVATION), the training featured expert insights from leading organizations, including ITENE, Wood K Plus, and the University of Leeds.
Key topics included:
• SSbD Framework: Steps and practical applications in assessing safety (steps 1-3)
• Lignin Types: Assessment and water and grease repellence characterization
• Toxicity Data: Bio-membrane sensor and release accelerator
• Practical Examples: Real-world application of SSbD to chemical compounds
Agenda Highlights:
• Opening remarks, introduction, and project overview
• SSbD Framework and Steps
• Lignin types
• Safety Assessment
• Practical Application Session
• Q&A
• Closing remarks
The BIO-SUSHY project, funded under the Horizon Europe Programme, aims to develop PFAS-free coatings for food packaging, textiles, and glass cosmetic packaging.
