- This is a good beginner free motion quilting tutorial of the orange peel motif using templates. A great all over design for free motion Quilting ruler work at a sit- down machine
Thank you! I just could not figure out how to get the nice round circles instead of a squished one. So helpful!
Actually, that company that makes the circles sells a wide variety of quilting acrylic templates and they are meant for quilting, I have ordered many of them and they are wonderful! They're made in NC. They are called TCR Engraving and Graphics - very fast and personal service, you can even request customization (add lines, center holes if not present etc). They're great!
Thank you so much for a quick response. I measured the hopping foot, and it is 1/4" from the top edged of the foot to the table surface. What do you think? Mine is the original Tiara and came with only this foot....
Do you have to have the ruler foot? Is the regular foot on the Tiara not good for rulers? I have done a little ruler work with it.... Should I not?
Hi Marjorie,
The new Handi Quilter Sweet 16 comes with a ruler foot on it . The Tiara is the same machine and I think it comes packaged the same -but I would check yours to be on the safe side. It should be about 1/4" high to prevent it from sliding underneath the ruler which could throw the timing of your machine off. I think your going to love it!
Hi where you buy that ruler foot?? I have Viking Sapphire 930 n Juki 2010..
Hi Maria,
I use a generic foot I purchased on eBay as Baby Lock/ Brother does not make one for their sit down machines either. If you notice, the opening is on the side- not a problem for me(ruler still glides well and is 1/4"). I did a post about this foot about a year ago one www.thequiltjournal.com, but stores.ebay.com/ngosewsewingpartscompany?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 and in the left hand column search area search "ruler foot" and they will come up.
Patsy Thompson has a great video about the Janome foot and adapting it at ruclips.net/video/CDwH8ChGOTA/видео.html - the only thing I don't like about that foot is you can not use a single whole stitch plate .
And lastly there is a foot out by Westalee - www.westalee.com.au/domestic.php. I have heard some caution advised with the use of this foot and raising the foot and lowering you needle. Also some clearance issues around the foot if your Viking or Juki is a "low shank" ankle.
Amy Johnson has a good video out highlighting these points at ruclips.net/video/KG4-6Al7gOg/видео.html
Hope this helps! If you have any further questions email me at thequiltjournal@gmail.com

I love this but think it would be easier to mark your half circles then sew them???
+golfgranny58 Please give it a try....I find my curves are smoother with the rulers and so much faster once you get the feel of using templates or rulers :)-
😊👍
You prolly dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown xD

Ant the template?
Hi Maria,
The circle templates I used in that video were Longarm 1/4" templates that are quite inexpensive one eBay (us quilters dig everywhere for our stuff :) ) That address is www.ebay.co,m/itm/3-Piece-Circle-Set-1-2-3-1-8-Clear-Acrylic-Quilting-Templates-/281279766384 They were $15.00 for the set (1,2, and 3") and free shipping . they are laser marked in half in both directions. A few more markings would have been nice, but for $15........
Thanks for watching,
Debbie
