This is great !!! I think the KEY is getting the foundation perfectly square when you first sew the grid....if the grid is perfectly square.....then the rest will come out great looking.
Thanks for the tutorial. It’s beautiful! Is it necessary to stitch in the ditch on a quilt that has 4” squares or would it look ok to do the orange peel design by just going with the seems?
I’ve just started to learn to quilt and was lucky enough to buy a second hand Janome 7700 like the one you are using. It was great to watch you make that sample Orange Peel design, which gives me hope that I will be able to do the same. Lovely video.
I just want to thank you for making this look so easy. I have a courthouse steps quilt that I was going to do this on, but I was looking for the right size circle to use as a template and mark my quilt. I made a mountain out of a mole hill. Lol. I will definitely be doing it free motion!
Freda -- Thanks for the kind feedback. The sample was free motion with no stitch regular so the stitch length is determined by how fast or slow I move my hands along with the speed of the needle. I try to achieve 11 or 12 stitches per inch but it often varies.
+paulette miller Hi Paulette -- thank you for writing. This design is most applicable to a background filler. I've used a variation of it on a mini quilt (link below) but it can be used on anything. It's especially beautiful as a traditional background behind applique. Here is a link to a mini quilt I used it on -- see what you think: karensquiltscrowscardinals.blogspot.com/2015/09/a-winning-combination-cone-flowers.html
Hi Dorothy -- the tool is called a Hera Marker -- it is made by Clover. You should be able to find one at your local quilt shop or fabric store.... Thank you for the sweet feedback.
