I just love this. Earlier this year my partner gave his 89-yr-old mother a composition book with the request to write down things about her life. I told him a plain ol' comp book was too boring, but she doesn't like him to "fuss" over her at all, so that's what he got. I'm totally going to make this cover for her book! Maybe it will make it more inspiring for her.🥰
Great way to use precious scrap fabrics, I like the way you sewed the lining (bright green fabric) on the spine of the book cover, I would never have thought of that. All the best for 2024
I started making these composition book covers in 2019. I primarily use it to document my sewing and quilting projects. I've made a lot and sold them at craft boutiques.
The stripes are very effective. ❤ To the detriment of family history, I have never been a journalist or scrapbooker. My mom made me a covered journal in 2021. I do try to use it monthly to track my quilting progress, but I haven't logged my 2023 finishes from the end of the year.
I make junk journals and I use fabric to put on my base cover which is usually a cereal box or some other food box. I was just thinking today that I should make a patchwork quilted cover for my next journal. Thank you for sharing!
I have watched many scrappy composition book journal videos and I think that this one is great. I have never seen the method sewing only on batting with the piece in the inside middle section but your tutorial makes sense. Happy new year.
I made one of these last summer. It's a fun and creative project. I love your channel. Your tutorials are easy to follow and I want to do all of them. 😊
Your journals are amazing! I’ve seen other tutorials but I like the way you did yours! I’m definitely going to be making some for gifts! Thank you for sharing!😊
Your journals are fantastic! And the covers are fabulous too. I don’t know if I have enough going on in my life to fill a book that big. 🤣 Maybe I do though.
Love this!! I have this wild desire to go buy some composition books!!! Great use of scraps…thank you for sharing 😊. PS - years ago I used to work at Mead; great company but a merger closed the corporate office in Dayton Oh.
I did not know you were from Minnesota. Just started watching your channel and it is fun. Hope you and yours are staying warm! (from another Minnesotan)
What a great idea for my annual quilt planning journal. I’m often inspired by nature and this would be the perfect place to keep all of those ideas. The pockets are especially clever❤😊
I have got to get on the journaling bandwagon. I keep a planner but its not quite the same thing. I love how you made the cover and of course the bonus was showing us your completed journals. Thank you so much!
I use such a quilting notebook and made my cover from selvages. I use a notebook with gridded/graph paper so drawing blocks and quilt diagrams is easy! I like your “quilt as you go” technique!
to keep the journal closed, I like to insert a length of elastic tape during the passage at 9:07, roughly an inch from the fold. less cute, maybe, but I personally find it more practical than the tie.
If using ribbon for closures, always be sure that you do a knot in the bottom of the ribbon .... if it never starts fraying, the chances of the ribbon turning ratty should be greatly decreased.
It's from a pattern called "Half Step" and it was featured in one of my strip stash videos. This link will take you to it: ruclips.net/video/angINpRP-KE/видео.htmlsi=DBkdKs6qLLUN-3IA
I'm tempted to try this but also add in a ribbon bookmark to the case

It certainly will make it more fun to have it out in the open so she will see it and be reminded to write things down as she spots it.
Thank you so much. These are beautiful and practical.
I love this idea! It's a great way to utilize 2 of my hobbies

Perfect project! Thank you!

less cute, maybe, but I personally find it more practical than the tie.
Can I use flannel instead of batting? I think it would make it a little flatter in the end for my use. Nice and clear tutorial, thanks!
You can sure give it a shot!
Shelley, your days must consist of 28 hours. Just sayin. ❤❤
Love the pin tip when making your tie
♥️♥️♥️
This is much easier than the one I was making. Do you have the dimensions for fabric anywhere?
What thickness of batting should be used for this project?
Can you wash cover?
What size is the notebook
