Here we take a look at the pair of Bespoke Boots I commissioned with Italian bespoke shoemaker, Riccardo Carlino of Calzoleria Carlino.
Riccardo approached me about 1.5 years ago wanting to offer me a pair of shoes/boots in order to test out his new Remote Bespoke Service. While I do not normally wear the shoes people send me I thought this would be a good opportunity to make a completely different model to anything I would ever design in my own brand and therefore justify wearing it.
(Note: the process took so long mainly because of me taking forever to get him the measurements and actually filming this video).
So I chose this rugged grain leather derby boot with 360 degree Norwegian welt stitch on a leather/commando sole. My intention was for something rugged yet elegant for Winter. And a boot that I could wear with thicker socks.
Overall the boots are super solid and well made. A touch generous even with a semi thick sock but its okay as it allows me to wear my thickest pairs which I like to have the allowance for.
The Remote Bespoke Service is great for someone who wants to customize their shoes and get something made for specifically for their measurements and style without having to travel for it.

Great point regarding perfection aspiration vs feeling let down. My favourite shoes bring me so much Joy. Thanks for your informative videos Justin!

Thanks for another great video, Justin! I haven't heard of Carlino either, but it looks like he does great work. I think I'm going to give him a try. Beautiful boots and those trees are awesome.

Great video! Liked how you showed the boot on foot.
Would be interesting in general to see the shoes on foot in these review videos :)

About those final little nudges to the fit, I'd say it's still leather and cork, It will still adjust to your feet when worn. All I'd expect is for that last little bit to be faster than off the shelf, and less prone to alter the appearance once worn in.
Very nice looking boots, by the way. I often find what you share a bit over the top, but these are just very well made boots. They're not shouting for attention so much as bearing no end to close scrutiny. Just the way I like it.

Nice boots. An anecdote regarding shoes shipping, I love Carmina but for the life of me I can't understand why they always ship the shoes outside of the included bags, so they arrive all scuffed. Extremely frustrating..

That is odd indeed. Not sure why either. My only guess is they think it appears more clean looking in terms of presentation 🤷‍♂️
