An explanation of the "Barney... Rubble... Trouble!" bit. Its called "cockney rhyming slang". It was developed by British prisoners so they could talk infront of the guards. Its usually 3 words and the 3rd rhymes with the real word and shorthand you can just say the first. Example, "Bees and Honey" is money. So instead of saying "give me the money", you could say "Give me the bees." Also, "apples and pears" is stairs, stuff like that.
And then there's Dimwell. Dimwell Arrhythmic Rhyming Slang (DARS) is the only rhyming slang, anywhere, that does not rhyme and in fact is very carefully devised to avoid creating any rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, internal or external assonance, or anything even remotely resembling or which might be mistaken for poetic structure. As with all rhyming slang, it has been speculated that this is mainly to annoy or confuse outsiders
Some Cockney slang has worked its way into common English idioms. For example, saying giving a "raspberry" to mean booing originated as Cockney slang (raspberry tart rhymed with fart).
My favorite bit of trivia: The ending scene at the fountain was partially improvised. Saul's actor, Carl Reiner, was instructed to leave last, but the the rest of them were told to leave whenever it felt natural.
"It kinda seems like maybe it was Ocean that did something wrong here and not her." Yes, the scene where he's released from prison and the scene where they talk about prison does imply that.
The reason the contrast is so high is the cinematographer was going for a black and white film look. They were trying to recreate the visual feel of the original movie but in color. This is also why they use 60's era transitions and multi-panel shots.
Nobody thought that this "Rat Pack" classic would be revamped into a franchise. I saw the 1960's original before the remake came out. Also it re-established the 'Heist Comedy' that the original had first introduced. Great cast. One of the best ensembles ever. They all had such a good time working together. Going by the 'behind the scenes' footage and interviews. The most recent installment was the spinoff, Ocean's 8 (2018) and it was unexpectedly good. But work your way through Ocean's 12 & 13 first. RIP to the legends, Bernie Mac (Frank Catton), Carl Reiner (Saul Bloom) and Jerry Weintraub (lead producer of the Ocean's Trilogy, 2001-2007).
I haven't been able to watch Angelina, Billy, or MID's reactions lately without thinking about how they would roast each otherat any given moment and the moment that Angelina confused Don Cheadle with Tim Meadows I was just imagining what Billy would say lol.
The spin transitions and the colour grading on this film were a tribute to the original which was done way back in the 60s. . .or 70s, hell i dont remember. But it was a verynpopular film back then that kind of launched the genre
I think they got the SWAT van from the van that Bernie Mac "bargained" that guy down by grabbin his hand. The dialogue made it seem like he was buying multiple vans, even though they only really showed the one. I think they got the remote controlled van, the pinch van, and the SWAT van.
one of my favorite shots is matt damon trying to get out of the elevator and the camera just moving with him to reveal clooney just lounging and creeping above him, clearly waiting to scare him lmao. it's just such a funny little character interaction that didn't need to be there but it says so much about their dynamic that it was
10/10 One of my all-time favorites There is just something about this movie that makes it so great. There's nothing truly outstanding about any one aspect of the movie; nothing that will blow you away. However, everything is put together perfectly. Personally, I have a theory that any movie that absolutely blows you away the first time you see it, will lose its entertainment value very quickly. Not necessarily because the movie was not good, but because it just seems to get old too fast. This is NOT one of those movies. This is the kind of movie that will be enjoyed countless times. The dialogue is slick, and always to the point. There are few (if any) overdone scenes and/or lines that tend to become annoying over time. This movie flows exceptionally well. Personally, I couldn't quite figure out why until I watched the "behind the scenes" footage on the DVD. I didn't really notice all of the work they put into using as few shots as possible. The extra features on the DVD really explain it all. Almost every scene uses considerably less shots than you would think it takes to convey all of the activity going on. The music punctuates the flow of the movie and the shots extremely well. The cast is almost all big names. It's great to see actors like Pitt and Clooney and Damon come together in a movie and interact so well, without having to be the pretty boys or bad-ass heroes of the movie.
My husband and I are OBSESSED with the whole OCEAN’S Saga O.11, O.12 and O.13 !!! As far as we’re concerned this is an iconic movie, iconic cast and just an all around ICONIC movie/movies. And just a small fact that no one asked for lol…. Our 16 yr old son’s middle name is OCEAN! Yes after this movie. 7:15 It was definitely intentionally high contrast. between Steven Soderbergh and Tony Scott the high contrast look was the in thing in the early 2000's
You mentioned the contrast was very high. Many Resort Casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas have lightning that is similar to the lighting used in Oceans 11.
I know this is a year old and I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but it was most certainly shot on film. They used the Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL and they intentionally used a grainy film stock.
8:23 That's Don Cheadle. Most notable recently for playing Lt. Colonel James "Rhody" Rhodes (War Machine/Iron Patriot) in the MCU (Iron Man 2, 3, Avengers, etc.)
There was a cartoon back in the old days called, "The Flintstones". Barney Rubble was the sidekick of Fred Flintstone. They got into trouble all the time - kind of like the Honeymooners...
The reunion series for That 70s was probably one of the better ones - it understood some of the fans were already adults back when the show was on and we are the older folks now - and they gave us some great moments with Kitty and Red now that it's harder to identify with the teen plotlines.

BSG had their space shots evenly lit, even though it's supposed to be pitch-black out there, but they needed that extra light to make the ship noticeable (which itself is dark, as opposed to something like the Enterprise, or a Star Destroyer, which are white) so, they rose the whole scale of light and the interior shots are over-lit.
The "were in barney" line is cockney rhyming slang. Barney's last name is Rubble from the Flintstones. Rubble rhymes with trouble so Bash is really saying "were in trouble".
4:07 - Wow. I knew lighting in movies was a lost art, but I didn't realise it had been lost for so long that an entire generation had grown up thinking that the TERRIBLY lit movies we get these days are considered "normal".....
If I told you there was a movie from 1985 starring Kevin Costner, Kevin Kline, Danny Glover, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Glenn, Rosanna Arquette, John Cleese and Brian Dennehy would you want to see it? They were all in a western together called Silverado. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it.
The "Pish Posh" he was speaking is "Cockney rhyming slang" spoken by working class Londoners, called 'Cockneys' (think Jason Statham). Traditionally, it was used as a code to fool the Police so they didn't know what they were saying. Each word means something else based on a word it rhymes with. For example... Barney (Rubble) = Trouble Apple and Pears = Stairs ("I'm just going to quickly run up the apple and pairs for a minute") Half inched = Pinched (meaning 'stolen') Box of toys = Noise Butcher's (hook) = Look ("I'm going to have a butchers at that casino", etc)
I believe the swat truck is one of the cars Bernie Mac got when he was squeezing that car salesmans hand and was talking about Aloe Vera, they just painted it as Swat
my only complaint is that there was never supposed to be a Ocean's Twelve or Thirteen...and Definitely NEVER NEVER Ocean's eight...the story ended by the end of Ocean's Eleven..Brad Pit Drives George Clooney and his wife and it wihtes out ~ The End.
When I was a little kid who hadn't seen too many movies, i also confused Tim Meadows and Don Cheadle. I know they don't really look alike. I guess a lot of it is that their voices are kind of similar.
4:08 Oliver Stone saw an unfinished cut of Orson Wells's THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND in 1989 and ripped off his use of different film stocks to make JFK in 1991. Soon, just about every filmmaker in the 1990s was experimenting with mixed film grades to get different lighting & color effects. Most movies of the late 90s used weird lighting/film contrasts to make their stuff look interesting. Then digital color grading became a thing and people started shooting movies flat and then altering their entire color & contrast schemes in post. But Soderberg loved mixing film stocks and lighting effects around this time and just about all of his stuff from 1997-2007 looks like this. It WAS shot on film because the full-digital HD cameras didn't come out until 2002 and that was for George Lucas almost exclusively. Even then they maxed out at 2K. So people didn't really use HD cameras for feature-film shooting until about 2010. In the trailer there was a joke during the parole board where the board member asked him "What type of work would you consider pursuing upon your release?" and he says "I dunno. How much do you make in a year?" But the line was cut from the finished film because an advisor pointed out that a parolee would be immediately rejected for giving that answer.
18:33 Dude is doing a hundred million dollar felonous heist on a dangerous gangster's casino, just backflipped across the room onto a shelf onto his butt...and Ange: "🎶Ooh, be careful!🎶" 🤣
When he says "barney. Barney Rubble. Trouble!" He is using something called Cockney Rhyming Slang. It was common in a certain part of London around 1900 and has remained a part of English and Australian slang, although it is much less common now. It involves taking some well known thing and substituting its meaning for something it rhymes with. In this case Barney Rubble (a character from the Flinstones) means "trouble" as it rhymes. Another example. At dinner I might say "could you pass the dead horse" which actually means "Could you pass the sauce" because "dead horse" rhymes with "sauce." My personal favourite is instead of saying "let's hit the road," you would say "let's hit the frog and toad" or even just "frog." Just imagine it as a secret language developed so that other people have no idea what you're talking about, which is why it was created by criminals, yet it simultaneously became poetic and incredibly creative.
This was definitely shot on film, not digital - it says right on the imdb page: Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL. To me the high contrast lighting looks fairly natural, perhaps thinking otherwise is a result of being raised with washed-out sepia or blue/orange dimmed digital movies.
Funny bit of Trivia.......Brad Pitt was always grabbing food from the food trays laid out for the cast and crew and eating it during his scenes because he felt the character wouldn't get much time to eat because he was always going somewhere.....
What guy in prison would say he would commit a crime again and still expect to get out? Robert Stroud, the Birdman of Alcatraz. Side note, he didn't actually have any birds when he was at Alcatraz. He got the nickname Birdman for the birds he kept at he previous prison (Leavenworth, I think. ) His last parole hearing before he died, he stated that he needed to be paroled because there were people he needed to kill and he didn't think he had much time left. The man was brutally honest. He was arrested when he went into a police station and told the officers that he had just killed a man over a matter of $50. He neglected to mention that the man he killed was attacking a woman, and Stroud stepped in to protect her.
All star cast. excellent movie. 2 one I think is just as good, but didn't the same pacing as the first. #3 goes back to Vegas, and could be the best one. #4 "Ocean's 8"is his sisters "Sandra Bulloc" shot at a grand heist. Pretty good movie
Don Cheadle was most definitely not in Mean Girls.
Tim meadows feels honored tho
He might've been in a few

Some Cockney slang has worked its way into common English idioms. For example, saying giving a "raspberry" to mean booing originated as Cockney slang (raspberry tart rhymed with fart).
Angelina confusing Don Cheadle and Tim Meadows cracked me up far more than it should've.

I suggest using some aloe vera to avoid those cracks.

What's super funny is she said they weren't going to walk out the front door with bundles of money in the beginning, and they kind of do.
Ocean's Eleven is the best kind of remake because it takes a movie with a cool premise and terrible execution and does a much better job with it.
This and Ocean’s Thirteen are definitely in my Top 5 favourite films of all time

Pretty sure the contrast and film style is to make it feel like 70s Vegas. Same with a lot of the sound effects like the punch.
It's the noir aspects of this movie that seal it for me. easily one of my favorite series of all time!

This movie was shot on film. Digital movies started around the year 2000 but it was rare. Digital didn’t become popular until after 2013
You definitely going to need to see the rest of the series and Oceans 8 if want.

Watch Oceans 12,13 and then 8. But there is a joke in 13 that is a reference to original Ocean’s 11 (1960)

Seems like no one ever reacts to Out of Sight which is basically an unofficial prequel to Ocean's and also - hot take alert - the better film.
Wow, so many great movies you haven't seen! 😂 After 11, there's 12 and 13!
I don’t think she’s reacted to Paul blart mall cop 2, but she should watch the original first.
Don Cheadle he's from Iron Man 2 not from mean girls
‘Why not twelve?’
‘Next time baby.’
Funny bit of Trivia.......Brad Pitt was always grabbing food from the food trays laid out for the cast and crew and eating it during his scenes because he felt the character wouldn't get much time to eat because he was always going somewhere.....
Rees, how do you not know the cockney rhyming slang parts? :D
If you haven't seen it, The Italian Job with Mark Wahlberg is an amazing heist movie!
Special thanks to my patrons!
Please do commentaries on Oceans 12 & 13! I promise, you won’t be disappointed, especially with Oceans 13….
The digs on your DM having low emotional stakes, ouch 😂
as a grown man with a poster of my favorite movies on the wall, legends of the fall is there strictly for brad pitts amazing hair. it matches my hair.
Brad Pitt and Robert Downey Jr. need to do a movie together so that they can just look good eating food together on camera.
This is one of favourite franchises!

What guy in prison would say he would commit a crime again and still expect to get out?
Robert Stroud, the Birdman of Alcatraz. Side note, he didn't actually have any birds when he was at Alcatraz. He got the nickname Birdman for the birds he kept at he previous prison (Leavenworth, I think. )
His last parole hearing before he died, he stated that he needed to be paroled because there were people he needed to kill and he didn't think he had much time left. The man was brutally honest. He was arrested when he went into a police station and told the officers that he had just killed a man over a matter of $50. He neglected to mention that the man he killed was attacking a woman, and Stroud stepped in to protect her.
The Barney Rubble bit is a Cockney rhyming thing. Also, while he got the ex-wife back he also got his cut of the take.
A new video from the leader of the reckless three😮
No worry of a copyright strike with this video, was there even 5 minutes of the film in this reaction 😂 🤣. Thankfully Angelina is 🔥 🔥 🔥
I’d love to see a D&D campaign between different RUclips reactors recorded on RUclips
All star cast. excellent movie. 2 one I think is just as good, but didn't the same pacing as the first. #3 goes back to Vegas, and could be the best one. #4 "Ocean's 8"is his sisters "Sandra Bulloc" shot at a grand heist. Pretty good movie
