RAISING ARIZONA FIRST TIME WATCHING will be uploaded Wednesday! Enjoy the day!
Yes! Raising Arizona is a classic. As I said on a previous video, you should look into watching Way of the Gun (if you haven't seen it.) It was Chris McQuarrie's first film and now he's driving the Mission Impossible franchise.
I like your videos 👍👍⭐⭐
I can't even begin to work out how much times I've watched this movie from just finding it at 1am on TV in bed or just replays when in that heisty mood. It never gets old.
My man!!
I actually work in a casino, I'd probably be Bernies character.
Ocean's Thirteen was 2007, Bernie Mac died 2008. Clooney said there could be no further sequels without him.
Carl Reiner is gone too.
@@zaniq23 he was 98, tf is your point
@@extremeking425 Bernie Mac was 51 years old when he died and Clooney was 47 when he said that's enough for these movies 🎥.
@@extremeking425 the point is he's gone. Which is true. You're welcome.
@@extremeking425 WOW. You really didn't have the attention span to read the comment he was responding to? 🤣🤣🤣
Your response is out of context 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of the best things about this movie is how it keeps involvement of 11 members and their individual roles simple. Doesn't feel cluttered or fast.
The pacing was really great!
also bernie mac
I love how they never actually tell you the plan, so when its happening you think all these things are going wrong when they aren't.
@@TumultuousMThey conned us in all three!!!
This is one of those movies that go in the pantheon of films you never change if you come across it on TV.
EDIT: RIP Bernie Mac, an underrated comedic genius.
Thanks!! And yes RIP
@GKeeper316 Maybe in the US but over here in the UK, this movie was the 1st time I'd ever seen him.
One of my all time favorite, "tough-guy" scenes in cinema, is Bernie Mac negotiating the price of the get-a-way vans.
Is he underrated? He’s pretty well remembered and highly appreciated 15 years after his passing, I’d say that’s a legacy!
True
I love how Rusty is always eating.
Brad said in an interview that because he was playing the character that Dean Martin had portrayed in the original who always had a drink in his hand they asked him what Rusty’s thing should be. He hadn’t eaten yet that day and said that he should always be eating. He also said that he regretted saying that when they kept it up throughout film.
Brad Pitt is always eating
reminds me of Hans from Tokyo Drift. Always eating chips or peanuts.
This might just be the most rewatchable movie ever. So. Much. Fun.
And as you note, Soderbergh is having a lot of fun with the camera moves and angles. It's a relatively light romp that leaves him free to just let loose. He had just made Traffic and Erin Brockovich, and after those he could do pretty much whatever he wanted.
Right!!
I very much enjoy the whole Ocean's trilogy. Ocean's Thirteen is probably my favorite to watch on the regular, even though it is regarded as the weakest of the three. Any one though is the type of movie you can sit and watch or just have on in the background.
Facts! I used to watch this movie every Saturday night back in the 2000s😄
@@shakarussanders9911 I would love to see him react to Traffic
@@zfgdun Yeah Traffic is a very good movie!👍
This is one of the most effortlessly cool movies I've ever seen.
I love when Brad Pitts character is teaching the actors poker the actors are portraying themselves
thank you for reminding me that the Ocean's trilogy is one of my favorite of all time
Hahaha anytime!
Snatch ,Ocean's trilogy....I love this tipe of movies...we need more of these.
Of course! Anything for you Brick Top

If con jobs are your thing, I can't recommend Confidence enough. Easily a personal favorite that holds up to a straight up classic like The Sting.
20 years after I first saw this and I STILL remember how I felt when the duplicate vault was revealed. Such great storytelling.
I love how when we first meet Rusty, he's teaching 20-something actors in long running TV shows at the time how to play cards. Topher Grace (That 70's Show), Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek), Shane West (Once and Again), Barry Watson (7th Heaven). All playing themselves, naturally.
Hollies Marie Combs (Piper from Charmed)was the lady at the table.
@@jacleesx2022 thanks for saving me from making the point that he forgot the woman at the table. Holly Marie Combs was great in Charmed, but Alyssa Milano still was my favorite Halliwell sister.
@@jacleesx2022The dealer who took over for Frank? If so, she was in 13 as well. And Bruiser, and Danny Shields was in all three.
A film that juggles a solid plot, story, MASSIVE cast, and maintains itself years later. Steven don’t miss. This is one of my favorite feel good films. It doesn’t miss seriously
Don Cheadle's attempt at a British accent is a war crime.
Uhhhh.. this is the movie that just makes you wish you were friends with George.
Right!?
You're not his friend tho it's Mr. Clooney to you.
This one, Out of Sight (one of Jennifer Lopez' only decent movies), and of course O Brother Where Art Thou.
You can tell by 11, 12 and parts of 13; they were genuinely having fun making this movie. To most I'm sure it was more of a vacation.
I’ve had drinks with him when he was down in Miami shooting out of sight. Super cool guy
Reasons to like this movie:
Bernie Mac.
Great camera work.
Fantastic pacing.
Bernie Mac.
Brad Pitt's munching scenes.
Bernie Mac.
and don’t forget..Bernie Mac
Agree totally on Brad Pitt, eating his way through the entire film and then finally heartburn at the end.
Soderbergh is one of the best to come out of his era. He makes so many movies and is pretty consistently engaging. This is basically a perfect movie. 12 is really great too because of how it experiments with the form.
This is my most rewatchable movie of all time.
You didn’t include it but one of my favorite lines in this movie was when they introduced the brothers and one of them said “I’m gonna drop you like 3rd period french” such a great line for characterization
I noticed the color theme for this movie is primaries, yellow blue and red, and all bright neon lighting, once it’s pointed out you notice it in almost every scene
"They say Tope is very soothing"
@@TheJoshestWhiteit's actually spelt Taupe but hey, I knew what you meant immediately 😂😂🥰
When I was a little younger this was my favorite movie. Rewatched it so many times. Not saying it’s one of the best movies ever but for some reason it just hit the right chord with me
The style that comes across in this film - the camera work, the music, everything - is just unbeatable and never gets old.
Rusty Ryan is one of the coolest movie characters of all time. The fashion is always on point
Rusty Ryan, Cliff Booth, Mickey from Snatch, Lt. Aldo Raine, Troy, even Tyler Durden, it’s wild how many of the coolest characters of all time were Brad Pitt.
I think he has a tapeworm.
@@tbrackett9344 that’s a strange thing to say
@@MrJLiles14 Always eating
@@tbrackett9344 haha you might be on to something
O brother where art thou is an amazing Coen brothers film with one of Clooney’s greatest roles in my opinion
Now you have to see Oceans 12. So underrated
Definitely going to get through them all so stay tuned!
@@JamesVSCinema let’s go
@@JamesVSCinema super excited for this
im going to have to retry 12. its been so long. I just didn't care for it compared to the other 2.
@@tommyboy049 I think it’s almost as clever as the first one. 11 can’t be topped but I think 12 tried something different but ultimately keeping the same vibe and cleverness
The pacing really was great. The ability to introduce ALL those characters sufficiently AND get to the complex plot without the movie being too long and not screw anything up was pretty monumental.
I remember being so skeptical of this remake when it first came out because I love classic films and the original was the Rat Pack but I was so happy that this was one of the rare instances when I enjoyed the remake just as much
I'm old, I saw this movie in theaters. It was one of the best things I've seen on the big screen.
No, you´re not old. Old are those among us that have seen the ORIGINAL in theaters, this is a remake of the 1960 movie with Frank Sinatra et al.
It's hard to think a movie that's more fun than this.
That “Dude I told you to hurry” after Saul fake dies gets me every time lol
Hell yeah, as a bit of a cinephile who at one point wanted to make movies, it’s so refreshing to see a reviewer who knows about different things about filmmaking. Just hearing you say “that’s a cool shot” when I’m thinking the exact same thing is super cool. I’ve wanted to write a screenplay for the longest time, and I love listening to you while I work. Thanks so much man, and I’m excited to start subscribing to your Patreon. Keep going forward broski
Hey Cole!! Thank you man, that really means a lot!
Filmamking wise, this is how you introduce your characters. Especially when you have so many. Each one, in their intro, you know who they are and how you could tell a story just with them.
Steven Soderbergh's movie Contagion was unfortunately perfect for watching during the pandemic.
Such a great score and film!
@@Thecatdrums3 - Incredible cast to the movie, full of many big-name actors, yet no one was strictly safe from coming to their life's end in it. Made it all the more tense. But the score, and how it was all put together was excellently haunting.
This is one of those ones that I can just watch randomly, and enjoy it even after seeing it half a hundred times.
Such an amazing movie, loved your reaction as always and congrats on being one of the only reactions to this movie 😂😂
Oh snap for real!? Hahaha that’s a surprise!
i feel like Steven Soderbergh is one of the few directors to have gold in his color pallet most of his films have a golden hue to them
You're right. Tony Scott, too. 😀
@@lkf8799 And his Brother too, even though he loves Blue/cyan more.
this film is one of my favourites film, due to just the cast chemistry alone and i enjoy it every time i rewatch it, and the sequels aren't that bad either
The one movie I can think of where I still notice new aspects to the setup during the twist reveal on the 30th watch.
Hahaha that theirs was nuts!
@@JamesVSCinema Ok after watching I know you left out the whitejack part for the patreon users.
Me and my brother traveled through Vegas on my move across the country. Walked around all day and went to all the spots we could from the movie. Ended the day watching Ocean’s 11 in the MGM Grand and got to see all the sights that we walked through in the movie. One of the best movie watching experiences ever.
Living in the Netherlands, driving from north to south for me is 3 hours at max. I did some backpacking in the late 90's from NY state to Pennsylvania when I realized the difference regarding distances. I can image how your perspective is totally different. Ocean's Eleven is such a fun film to watch. Great reaction as always James.
Stay safe all.
100% hahaha it’s great being able to gain that perspective though! Stay safe as well Danny, much love!
Always a good day when you upload James
Makes me happy to hear that Ryan!!
Great review!. Have to say Ocean's 12 might be even more beautifully filmed, although not as universally liked. Bernie fell ill during the filming of 12 and his role was cut a bit, but it's still WELL worth reviewing.
"What kind of Kim Possible gadget is that" 😂
Any chance you would react to something with Bernie Mac? Clearly he meant a lot to you and I personally haven't explored much of his work.
Man, you would love _The Sting,_ from 1973. One of the great puzzlebox movies, starring Newman and Redford. Great script, excellent direction, adroit editing, and a soundtrack that at one point actually _laughs._ Give it a try sometime, you won't be disappointed.
It amazes me how goddamit smooth George Clooney (and Brad Pitt) proceeds to be in anything he's in that isn't Batman and Robin you should definitely check out From Dusk Till Dawn thats imo his best role he's peak smoothness in that
Perfect duo
Darius Harris Out of Sight has to be my favorite ‘Smooth George’ role. Then again, all the movies he’s with Steven Soderbergh is pretty much aces, Out of Sight is just my favorite. A cast of Clooney, Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle, Albert Brooks, Jennifer Lopez & Steve Zahn don’t hurt either..
My favourite performance of his is not-so-smooth, lol. When he's that paranoid guy in Burn Without Reading. Bloody hilarious, steals the movie for me.
@@susanmaggiora4800 YESS I forget about that role great one!
@@Torthrodhel great role as well 👌🏽
- "I know everything that's happening in my hotels". - "So I should put the towels back?"
This movie is full of sharps dialogues. It's pure fun xD
As someone who is from basically the exact place, Don Cheadles accent really isn’t as bad as people say. The expressions and dialogue is pretty good, especially the way he said “leave it out” like that lol in his first scene, was spot on
The 2nd one where pitt, clooney and damon are in a cafe in amsterdam talking business and a friend tells a joke, the laughter that follows... it’s hilarious, such a weird long extended laugh 😂
This trilogy is the most entertaining and rewatchable of all time. Period.
Seeing how much Bernie means to you made me smile.
Love these movies!!! ... this is also a remake of the original Oceans 11 which had Ol' Blue Eyes (Frank Sinatra) and The Rat Pack in it ALSO a great movie ... you should give this one a watch too .. if you're interested ??
Definitely one of the most fun movies ever!
One of my all time favorites. When it first came out it was there was nothing quite like it. Awesome to find a new tuber to subscribe to via such a legendary movie.
A kind of forgotten thing that makes this film influential is that up until now in most heist movies they tell the audience what the plan is so we know what to be tense about, but in this film they reveal to the audience what they did at the same time as the bad guy realizes
Not gonna lie James, I'm in a bit of a bind tomorrow. I'm meant to be doing a presentation tomorrow but my teacher still hasn't told me what I'm meant to be talking about. This video helped me relax a bit.
Ay I’m sure you’ll knock it out the park brother, just do your best with what you have!
When you go to Ocean's 12, just know they changed the aesthetic to a 70s European feel. Its great if you recognize those changes.
Real talk though, I hate when I’m reminded that I live in a world that no longer has Bernie Mac. Doesn’t ever feel right even after all these years later.
I was at summer scout camp for the week with very little contact with the outside world. We got that news there still. I didn't cry or anything, but I remember being kinda bummed out.
This is a masterpiece, now the other two, please
Oh shit! These movies were always good. One of the first times we saw a bunch of big name actors all in the same movie. They all had great chemistry
easily one of my favorite movies of all time, alongside with its sequel ocean's twelve... the story, the dialogue, the camerawork, even the cast is just... *chef kiss*
Love that Soderbergh's direction for the cast during the fountain scene was to exit when you are ready, but make sure Carl Reiner is the last one at the fountain. Then the cast and crew give him a round of applause! The behind- the- scenes are fantastic!
I wanna say as a screenwriter (technically aspiring), but that ain’t even needed, it’s just fun as hell sometimes seeing you see something good af to great. I’ll never forget your reaction to the oner in the car in Children of Men, but this is my fav reaction so far. I just assumed you had seen Ocean’s Eleven because it came out when I was like 10 or 11 and I just grew up watching it all the time. Sometimes it’s just fun to see a reminder of how great Soderbergh and his filmmaking can be, and through your eyes it was oh so fun to see.
Thanks for doing the reactions man.
The first time seeing this movie is always unforgettable. The twist and turns just throw you for a loop, and then the Prestige is over and you can't help but smile and clap.
One of if not THE greatest Heist movie ever. Fantastic cast too. Everyone was great.
One of my all time favorite movies/trilogies and director.
Bernie Mac, one of the all time greats IMO, old school. RIP
Indeed!
this is one of my favorite films! I can watch it over and over, and you get more details each time! genius.
out of everyone in the ocean crew, I would want to hang out with the Malloy brothers the most, their bickering is so hilarious. But honestly the movie was cast perfectly, everyone's chemistry was so natural like you said, not forced. So hard to get right in a lot of films. Also, I love how they rag on Matt Damon's character constantly. And Brad Pitt is always eating, makes me hungry. And Bernic Mac literally "strong--armed" the car dealer guy.
In case you haven't seen it, I recommend watching Steven Soderbergh's Solaris, a remake of the original Soviet film. It's incredibly atmospheric, with great lighting, cinematography, and a great soundtrack by Cliff Martinez. It doesn't have amazing reviews, and it actually is one of the few films to have an F rating on Cinemascore. That being said, I find it very underrated and a fascinating watch. It also has George Clooney collaborating with Soderbergh again, and I like both of their works together.
You have to do the rest of the movies in this series. RIP to a GOAT, Bernie Mac 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Some films use the camera as the audience. This film uses the camera as one of the characters. Really brings us into it and makes it feel alive. Bringing up multiple cameras that are doing the same move and then dissolving to one of them. The way the camera pans across who is speaking and then zooms into another in the back. This is next level editing and directing. Up there with Fury Road in terms of using the camera to keep the audience's eye flowing with the story with ease.
It's also hard to think of any better chemistry between leads than Clooney/Pitt/Damon.
One of the best reveals ever too when you realize how it REALLY went down. You feel like you're seeing everything.
You should check out the two sequels as well. Neither are as good as Ocean's Eleven, but they're still entertaining.
Dude! watching your reactions to classic movies I've seen a million times from a filmmakers point of view helps me appreciate the subtlties and finer details in films I otherwise would have never noticed, much appreciation for your respect of the art of film making man.
As a film student I am so happy that someone can point out things I've never noticed in my favorite movies. I did not appreciate the camera work or editing *at all* until you said sum'n about 'em.
Such a great video. Ocean's Eleven is one of my favorite films and it was super exciting to get to watch someone else watch it for the first time. Watching James comment on the different aspects of the cinematography in particular was a delight. Keep up the great work!!
Steven Soderbergh’s movies are always so visually adventurous. No one breaks more rules and tries more new things while still communicating efficiently and keeping things palatable for the masses. The guy does not half-ass anything. And how many directors are their own DP for most of their films? I’m sure there are others, but I can’t think of them, and Soderbergh isn’t just some obscure art film guy, he’s made A-list Hollywood movies for decades
thank you for reminding me about this gem, havent seen it since it came out. but ocean 12 is even better! cant wait for that reaction
Anytime Stanley!!
Shout-out to Elliott Gould's sunglasses. Dude looked dope AF
I always look forward to your uploads James.
And this is a great film to watch multiple times. Heck, I didn’t understand the setup until the third time!
That fountain scene is one of my favourite scenes in all of cinema
This is probably the best all star cast movie
It was so great to see you enjoy this film so much. It made me feel like I was watching it again for the first time. You have to see 12 and 13 now, these movies are so epic.
its the fact that they have all angles covered - the teaser of the air freshener for what was eventually their swat van - down to the moment of aquiring of tess - how benedict and his goons were going to react and who they were going to call - especially testing linus to somewhat pass the torch in what leads to his character development - just brilliant
Really enjoying your reactions man...you are clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about film and it makes its all the better to be able to join you expereincing incredible movies like this one for the first time 😁
Dude, I really enjoy watching movies with you. Thanks for all the reviews/reactions. You and a couple other RUclips people have helped to keep me sane(ish) for the last year. 🙏 peace!
there was an episode of Star Trek DS9 season 7, aired 1999, that played a lot like this movie: recruitment, planning, positioning, and at the time of the heist, complication after complication.
when it aired, nobody gave it much credit.
when the DVD came out in 2005, *EVERYONE* was comparing it to Ocean's Eleven.
that last shot of the characters, with the camera panning over each one, almost mimics the ending of the episode: the mark guy is being taken out, and as he "walks the plank" you see all the characters watching him as he passes.
all orchestrated with jazz music, with a full orchestra... full 1960's style.
One of those movies that you can watch again and again, because it's SO FUN. :)
I love relive these moments with you!!!
This is one of my favorite movies, i can rewatch it so many times and it's still entertaining as hell.
I love that Topher Grace plays himself in these movies
the fountain scene at the end just transcends the screen
Ik this is an old video but i love how the camera is interesting but DOESNT DISTRACT YOU. A massive issue i have with alot of indie films/"art" films is stuff being complicated for no reason and detracting from the story, and this movie nails it. And the pacing is just chefs kiss
The reveal at the end blew my mind!
If you like Soderberg you should try “Out of sight”.
Love the movie, love that you loved it, loved that I got to see you react to your first viewing and explain all those details that make it great. Well done, thank you.
Incredible movie! I love it when you get excited over great camera shots 😂
George Clooney was a perfect cast for frank Sinatra’s Danny ocean
Pretty sure he was Dean and brad was frank
@@randywhite3947 Ah cool!
This was a masterpiece, brilliant heist movie, epic cast, Clooney and Pitt are obviously having so much fun. Brilliant reaction too, the most insightful I've seen I think. Look forward to more and trawling your back catalogue. Thanks.
I love your pure enjoyment and delight in this film. Thank you for reminding me how brilliant it is in its seeming effortlessness in taking us on the heist and keeping us engaged at every point. And I love you geeking out to Bernie Mac✊🙏He is a true legend and real King of Comedy. I miss him too
One of my favorite things about the movie is that Old School Hollywood, Rob Reiner, gets a bit of a nod as Saul's theme is the EO-11/Theme of the Original Ocean's Eleven.
