    People sleep on Ocean's Twelve but this movie is so good. It's so artistically made. Everything from the cinematography, the color, the camera work, the editing. Plus the soundtrack is fiiiiiiire.

    • @richard_nj
      @richard_nj 3 года назад +6

      Artistic greatness only gets you so far. The plot has major headscratchers, there are obvious logical mishaps throughout (for example the laser hall scene with Toulour is one of the more laughable scenes I've seen. 1. That's not how laser security systems work, like at all. 2. There are corridors to either side of the main hall and the lasers clearly don't reach them, you could easily just stroll through there) and the twist makes everything you've just spent 2hrs watching useless and reveals that the main characters were never in any actual danger at all, neither from Toulour nor law enforcement. The film leaves you with the feeling of 'why should I even have cared?'.

    • @themikereda
      @themikereda 3 года назад +7

      @@freshoftheoven965 No need to be sorry, I didn't say it was better. Ocean's Eleven is fantastic, it's like lightning in a bottle. I just happen to think Twelve is still pretty great.

    • @themikereda
      @themikereda 3 года назад +10

      @@richard_nj I don't disagree. Although regarding your point about the twist and how it reveals they were never in any danger, that's almost what I like most about it. The movie tricked the audience just as much as the characters tricked Toulour and Benedict. So that doesn't personally bother me at all, I think it's a fun part of the ride. And I know the laser hall is ridiculous, but the whole series is fairly ridiculous. Again, for me that's all part of the fun. These aren't serious movies, I don't think any of this could or would happen in real life. Just a good time with beautiful visuals and a killer soundtrack. Never said it was the best of the trilogy, I just think it doesn't get enough credit.

    • @richard_nj
      @richard_nj 3 года назад +1

      @@themikereda The action on screen doesn't necessarily have to be perfectly believable, that's true (even though there is a point that when overstepped, somewhat ruins the immersion for me. I kinda cringe and react like "Yeahhhh, right......"), but the motives of the characters must be believable. The crew is in this just for the money, remember. They must fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones if they can't get enough cash to pay Benedict back. So why in the world would they waste the time and money to put up this elaborate deception for Toulour in Rome if they had the real egg from the beginning? Just to embarrass Toulour a bit more? Sry, not buying it. Why would they risk getting thrown in jail in multiple countries when there's no way they knew for sure that Lahiri was gonna forge the signature and their trump card relied solely on that and when there's no way that they fully understood the legal systems of all the countries they were operating in? So much shit could've gone wrong and for what? So that Rusty can have a shot at getting Lahiri? Sry, not buying it. And would Lahiri really throw away her still very much reputable career, her life as a high ranking Interpol agent because of the promise of a guy that lied to her basically every time she ever talked to him, who left her in the middle of the night by jumping out the bathroom window, who abused her knowledge for his criminal activities? And what is her life gonna be like after that decision, I mean does she really think she'll just go from law enforcement agent to outlaw thief? Again, sry, not buying it.
      And there's a difference between tricking the audience and plainly lying to them. I mean there's no real foreshadowing for the twist, it doesn't have much to do with the rest of the plot, it's just not believable and not satisfying. It's like if you watched a crime film in which a person gets killed, two people who knew the deceased are the suspects throughout and then it's revealed the person was murdered by a random passer by. It's like if you just walked down the street and then out of nowhere you got shot in the back and the assailant yells: "Ha, tricked you!". Not much of a trick there.
      I recognize that the ocean's series is not primarily about plot and story. That's what makes these films so rewatchable, knowing the outcome doesn't mean much, it's about the ride, about aesthetics, but this one is just too much, too outlandish. But then again we apparently consume and perceive films very differently, look out for vastly different things that decide a films worth to us, and that's perfectly fine.

    Soderbergh is god tier! From 2000 onward he both directs and actually shoots his own stuff under a pseudonym. Right after the Ocean’s movies he begins cutting them himself too, also under a pseudonym. If you love how stylish these are, you NEED to watch the TV show THE KNICK on HBO Max. It’s a medical procedural show set in 1900. Not for reactions, just to feed your filmmaking spirit bc Soderbergh directed, shot, AND edited ALL 20 hours of the show and it’s even more aesthetically inventive and experimental than the Ocean’s trilogy while still being slick popcorn entertainmen

    In the end, Gaspar LeMarc was the best thief in the world. The Puppet Master. The whole movie was set into motion by him because he wanted the Faberge Egg he had originally stolen but had to put back because of his wife. All he had to do was remain silent in front of Toulour when the businessman told him the casino heist was the greatest and tell Danny and Rusty when and where the real egg would be in transit. And at the end it was simply brought to him while he read the paper by the beach.

    If youre interested in another show/ havent seen it, you should watch Altered Carbon. The first season anyway.

    This is my least favorite movie in the trilogy. But Ocean's Thirteen is the best.
    I hope you are going to do Ocean's Eight as well.

    This is my favorite of the three, the soundtrack is also my favorite, so many excellent songs. The one where they're raising the building is perfect heist music. I like all three actually, but I will say that there was an original Oceans 11 made back in 1960 with some of the coolest cats of that era, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. Unfortunately the pacing of that movie is very slow, it drags to the point where I lost interest and I'm not sure I even finished it.

    The Ocean's trilogy is probably the most aesthetically pleasing and charming movies to exist 😍
