  • Quick and easy mod to the Logitech Driving Force GT brake pedal. Similar mod can also apply to the throttle pedal although would need to be a slightly smaller design in order to allow full pedal travel.

    Best mod for the brake pedal I've seen around RUclips! Kudos! ;)

    The overall length of my current one is 5.5 inches.
    It is 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide.
    The flat area on the top (tallest part) is 1.5 inches.
    The keyboard is a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard K740. It kind of has a laptop feel to the keys but I prefer that since I spend most of my day on a laptop at work anyway.

      I know this is really old now, but I just got a DFGT super cheap as my first step into using a wheel & this is the best idea for a brake mod I've seen. Only problem is I can't find 1.75" thick rubber foam ANYWHERE. :(
      Do you think if I buy 2" thick & squeeze it in it will still work? I'm thinking that it being squeezed from the sides to fit might make it stiffer, but I'm kinda worried it might end up too dense & block the brake from going all the way down that way. =\

    • @airik7777
      @airik7777  2 года назад +1

      @@EnragedN3wb As long as the foam is not too dense, you can essentially cut it to whatever shape/dimension you want. I played around with a few different shapes back when I first recorded this video (wow... this was a long time ago!) and eventually found a good size that provided enough resistance but still allowed the pedal to go most all the way down. Also, the pedal does not need to go completely all the way to the stop. Just re-calibrate the brake pedal when you get to a point where you feel it is at it's maximum firmness. Then the brake will still give you 100% but may not go all the way to the bottom.

    • @EnragedN3wb
      @EnragedN3wb 2 года назад

      @@airik7777 Just dropping back in to say thanks! I ended up buying the 2" foam, mounted the pedals with the base against the wall behind my desk so they are inverted & swapped the brake with the gas in the software. Then I cut the foam to 5.5" length but 4" tall instead to make up for using the weaker gas pedal as the brake. After recalibrating the pedal for the lost travel distance & doing 3 laps with it this way I've dropped 3 seconds off my previous lap time already & feels SOOO much more natural!
      My mind is actually pretty blown from not only the difference it made in the feel, but also the ability to control stopping power consistently & accurately. Even stretching out the spring didn't feel this good imo.

    If you are struggling to cut the foam to make the wedge, I found that using an electric kitchen knife works fantastic! You can get very nice clean edges and shape it however you want.

    I ordered the LDF GT set earlier today. And I was actually thinking about the break and how it would feel as there's is usually no resistance as you brake with these driving sim thingys. Anyways, I went on youtube to check out some reviews and stumbled across your video. It looks like the perfect mod to the brake pedal, and I work with this kind of material every day. I will most definitely try it out. Thanks man!

    While I used packing foam that Dell uses when they ship servers, I found that fabric and craft stores almost always have this kind of foam available in different densities. I was thinking about getting a piece that was a little more firm but ended up buying a set of Fanatec ClubSport v2 pedals instead. The foam really makes the brake more useable on the DFGT's but I also wanted a clutch pedal and the foam can't help with that. Thanks for all the feedback!

    I am now experimenting with a new foam wedge that is the same physical dimensions but I drill a hole down through the middle and insert a round coil spring. Based on the spring strength and position, it adds a little more resistance to the foam wedge. I'll probably post another video of that once I get the correct spring I like.

    Use the sliced foam tubing used for insulating household water pipes. about 3 inches long stuffed with a half slice of same and attach it to the back bottom of the foot plate so its about cm off surface and too wide to go into slot. this makes it free for first of movement , increases force all the way and nothing to stop it at bottom. ( and I think less leverage applied onto hinge)

    Really wish I saw this video 9 years ago... lol. Happen to have bubble foam type material from the 3d printer packaging I have. Found a block there that was exactly 5 inches long, 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide. What luck. Shaped it accordingly and in it went. Wow, regret not doing this long ago when I first started using the wheel. My brain and leg muscle will need to adjust to the pressure, but I see the advantages already. Now onto figuring out how to make the DFGT work with a PS5.

    Just some brief constructive criticism, this is a 6min 29sec video to explain how you cut some foam and jammed it in. I don't sub to your anything and this is the only video I've seen, so I'm not sure if you do it often, but you could probably have kept the interesting stuff (increase/decrease resistance with different shapes) and still made this video only 2-3 minutes long. You rambled quite a lot about what other people had done and where you got the foam.
    Other than that, it's a great idea and I'm going to try it out on mine. Thank you for making the video. :)

    • @airik7777
      @airik7777  9 лет назад +5

      LAWRENCIO11 The overall length of my last one was 5.5 inches.
      It is 3 inches high and 1.75 inches wide.
      The flat area on the top (tallest part) is 1.5 inches.
      You can really adjust this just about anywhere you want to get something that feels good to you.
      I have since upgraded to a set of ClubSport V2's but this simple mod really made a difference in the Logitech pedals.
      Hope this helps!

    • @ANDYB1478
      @ANDYB1478 10 лет назад +3

      Finicky? It's about having pedals that match the quality of the wheel. The pedals for the Driving Force GT are not of comparable quality. Maybe we can't all afford a G27. You obviously can! Idiot.

    • @devincoleman4671
      @devincoleman4671 10 лет назад

      ANDYB1478 Again it's a budget wheel, if they made them equal in quality you would lose quality in the steering and feedback. Simple mods like this one (tried it 15 mins ago love it) make them alright until we can get a deal on a 27 or find better pedals which seems stupid me personally as the wheel isn't that nice.
