    I was in Malaysia for nearly a month recently (KL, Melaka, Ipoh).
    Positives:
    1. Exciting food scene - very diverse. Malls in KL have really nice food courts.
    2. KL is modern and green. It's also more efficient than old European cities like London and Paris for many things (i.e. transportation system). Airport is efficient too - and better than airports in Europe (in general airports in Asian cities that I have visited such as Singapore and even Jakarta new airport are better than any European airports).
    3. Relatively clean. It's "normal" clean not "clinically" clean like Singapore (which I like).
    4. Quite safe.
    5. Excellent infrastructure - which make life easier for visitors.
    6. If you know where to go, you can really save money here in Malaysia.
    Negatives:
    1. Some places in KL such as Bukit Bintang can be overly crowded, congested and touristy. There were occasions when I was stopped by people who claimed to be refugees from the Middle East and asked me for money. One time, I was eating in a simple but busy restaurant in Kampung Baru KL, and there was someone (who said to be from Syria) persistently asking for money.
    2. There are really bad drivers. When I was in Ipoh, drivers are particularly bad. It was actually quite scary to cross the road by Ipoh rail station.
    Overall, I did have a fantastic time in Malaysia.

    • @Ruriko.Y
      @Ruriko.Y Год назад +8

      Malaysian drivers are scary, really. as a local, I have anxiety every time I'm on the road. it's one of the reason I rarely drive in Malaysia especially in KL, Selangor and Penang. Malaysians can be the sweetest, kindest people but once they get behind the wheels, their personalities change 😅 (not all of course)

    • @kayellai5278
      @kayellai5278 Год назад +4

      Exciting food is not enough as a statement. Malaysia is a food paradise like nowhere else.
      Malaysia do have some very bad drivers, many reasons for being so bad. Kuala Lumpur is the worst, not Ipoh. There is even a RUclipsr name YS Khong, teaching people how to speed on public roads. He thinks, he is some kind hero on this mayhem.
      Beggars is big problem in Kuala Lumpur, if it is local, perhaps understandable but foreigners begging, I am pretty upset about it.

    Ichang, a Japanese couple who was heartbroken when they are compelled to leave the country while their Digital Normed Visa application is being processed, comes to my mind when I heard your kind narrative about Malaysia. The couple said the longer they live here, the more they can find “dragon balls (surprises)”. They mentioned that they don’t really fall in love Malaysia at first sight but the longer they stay here to more they wanted to remain here since all the “dragon balls” cannot be found at once until will take some time to discover.
    Foreigners are easily blend with locals because Malaysia has variety type of people, multi-culture, multi-ethnic, multi-faces. However, unless you speak to them with a predetermined accent, no one will bother to enquire about your nationality unless they are genuinely curious. So be part of Malaysia because Malaysia is truly Asia and can suit anyone who can love it. We hope you will visit us again with longer. Attempt to apply Digital Normed Visa if you intend to establish Malaysia as your based to explore more of Southeast Asia.

KL is Organised modern structured progressive city, with alot of Cultures ( my hotel that i booked was in the Indian quarter no doubt about that ), but i feel the air quality is not the best here maybe . I thought it was hot in HCMC but this is another level of heat and humidity,its raining here now also so thats refreshing. Would love to explore more out of the city as Im not a city guy at all. I bought a delicious fresh prepared lunch yesterday on a very clean looking street stall from a nice muslim girl for 8 ringgit (€1.60 c) rice , chicken , vegetables and a knockout Sambal chilli sauce was really great quality and good size portion, I will be having more of that today thank you very much 😊 impressed so far 💪😊

    Great video Alex.
    We set out to give Malaysia a 3 month stay, starting in late February 2020, as part of "Where we, a pair of retirees in our mid 60's, going to settle down for a very very long time World Tour".
    Sadly we only got to see KL and Malacca before "the spicey cough" hit hard and the Malay government gave the whole country 24 hours notice of "Restricted Movement Order" (aka lockdown - enforced with great vigour by armed officals).
    We shot back to Australia double quick BUT we saw, and liked, enough of what Malaysia, and its people, offers and entice us back there at some stage.
    Your video is honest and accurate. Well done.

No snows, blizzards, tonardos hurricanes, sandstorms, earthquakes, tsunamis etc. Plenty of rain and sunshine. Some flooding in some parts of country at year end. No need to wear thick clothes . If you are not a party animal, Malaysia is the place for you. Those tourists who are party animal have a lot of complaints about Malaysia. Things are cheap because of heavy subsidy from the government on basic things like petrol, flour, cooking oil, etc. None of Malaysia neighbouring countries have such heavy subsidy for its citizen. Malaysia's neighbours smuggle things out of Malaysia and some come for shopping spree during weekends. They enjoy Malaysia currency being weak.

Wow I was waiting for a country you would admit to consider retiring or living long term and I’m glad you finally found it. Also yes I agree with your assessment. Malaysia seems to satisfy both quality and price. In the west quality standards are high but so are the prices but some countries have lower prices but sacrifices the quality you get. There are ways to avoid mosquitoes. Stay in condo or hotel that is above 8th floor, not on landed properties. Stay away from nature and greenery, far away. Always go for brightly lighted dinning or premises. Avoid dark areas.
      As for me, I always get bitten by mosquitoes daily on my landed property because of the greenery that surround my house. Please note, mosquito loves babies.

      Hi, one can avoid dark colour or navy blue clothes to avoid mosquitos coming near. Also, mosquitos don't like lotions. Can try baby lotions on skin.

    Just visited Malaysia, and loved it. Kuala Lumpur is pretty but very crowded. I also visited Singapore, and Jakarta Indonesia and out of the three countries I am leaning towards Singapore to retire. Only downfall about Singapore versus Malaysia is the size. Will visit Penang Malaysia next year and hoping that gets me to like it more.

    Good to travel around the round . If you need the cool region in Malaysia . You can go to Genting Highland & Cameron Highland .
    If you like sea side , there are many season along the coastal in Malaysia . Like Penang island , Langkawi , East cost in Terengganu Etc . You can always enjoy the cheap & reasonable price in budget hotels .

    I agree with everything you mentioned about Malaysia.. I would like to stay here longer were it not that the requirements have been increased. If I mention something negative about Malaysia then it concerns motorized traffic. As a pedestrian you have no rights whatsoever and you cross the road at the risk of your life. Even when the light for pedestrians is green, they drive on through red. But otherwise Malaysia is great with great people. I love malaysia.

      The funny thing is, you just need to raise you hand when you want to cross road in Malaysia. You didn't even need a zebra crossing or green traffic light. You can make you own zebra crossing. It's not something to be brag about, but that is the culture in the country. I guess, you just need to learn it😁. But in big cities, traffic light and Zebra crossing is usefull pedestrian

      I agree with you Roy. I'm trying very hard to inculcate d civic mindedness in my elder sister to stop for pedestrians crossing (she scolds me wen I'm or she is driving for 'giving way' to them cos will cause drivers behind me/her to horn with irritation etc), giv way to cars waiting to make a turn into a side road etc. Dis bad driving habits r so ingrained dat many a time wen I giv way, stop for pedestrians to cross, they very frequently r nonplussed as to wat to do!! Dat's d sad state of our local drivers!
      D best part is wen they r abroad in so called western developed ctries, these Msians can praise and admire d well mannered locals driving habits!! But wen back home in Msia, they drive like they own d roads, they r immune to injuries/death/mayham !! 🤦🤷
