I was in Malaysia for nearly a month recently (KL, Melaka, Ipoh). Positives: 1. Exciting food scene - very diverse. Malls in KL have really nice food courts. 2. KL is modern and green. It's also more efficient than old European cities like London and Paris for many things (i.e. transportation system). Airport is efficient too - and better than airports in Europe (in general airports in Asian cities that I have visited such as Singapore and even Jakarta new airport are better than any European airports). 3. Relatively clean. It's "normal" clean not "clinically" clean like Singapore (which I like). 4. Quite safe. 5. Excellent infrastructure - which make life easier for visitors. 6. If you know where to go, you can really save money here in Malaysia. Negatives: 1. Some places in KL such as Bukit Bintang can be overly crowded, congested and touristy. There were occasions when I was stopped by people who claimed to be refugees from the Middle East and asked me for money. One time, I was eating in a simple but busy restaurant in Kampung Baru KL, and there was someone (who said to be from Syria) persistently asking for money. 2. There are really bad drivers. When I was in Ipoh, drivers are particularly bad. It was actually quite scary to cross the road by Ipoh rail station. Overall, I did have a fantastic time in Malaysia.
Malaysian drivers are scary, really. as a local, I have anxiety every time I'm on the road. it's one of the reason I rarely drive in Malaysia especially in KL, Selangor and Penang. Malaysians can be the sweetest, kindest people but once they get behind the wheels, their personalities change 😅 (not all of course)
Exciting food is not enough as a statement. Malaysia is a food paradise like nowhere else. Malaysia do have some very bad drivers, many reasons for being so bad. Kuala Lumpur is the worst, not Ipoh. There is even a RUclipsr name YS Khong, teaching people how to speed on public roads. He thinks, he is some kind hero on this mayhem. Beggars is big problem in Kuala Lumpur, if it is local, perhaps understandable but foreigners begging, I am pretty upset about it.

totally can't argue more, Malaysian are friendly but when driving there are suddenly changes to really bad driver.. (we rarely honk others compared to our neighbour's country)
I love Malaysia. Lived there for 2 years in 1996. Beautiful country amazing food with its mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian food. Some of the best beaches in the world on the east coast. Have to go back soon

Thank you so much for your raves on Malaysia . As a Malaysian professional i did think of migration in my younger days - but the allure of my diverse cultures, traditions and multi-ethnic communities with our fabulous variety of cuisine and the VERY HOSPITABLE national character, i decided to stay back !!! And in all honesty, i made that right decision!! We may not be a first world country , but in my humble opinion, Malaysia is the world's first country !! Heaven on earth lah !!! 🥰

Ichang, a Japanese couple who was heartbroken when they are compelled to leave the country while their Digital Normed Visa application is being processed, comes to my mind when I heard your kind narrative about Malaysia. The couple said the longer they live here, the more they can find “dragon balls (surprises)”. They mentioned that they don’t really fall in love Malaysia at first sight but the longer they stay here to more they wanted to remain here since all the “dragon balls” cannot be found at once until will take some time to discover. Foreigners are easily blend with locals because Malaysia has variety type of people, multi-culture, multi-ethnic, multi-faces. However, unless you speak to them with a predetermined accent, no one will bother to enquire about your nationality unless they are genuinely curious. So be part of Malaysia because Malaysia is truly Asia and can suit anyone who can love it. We hope you will visit us again with longer. Attempt to apply Digital Normed Visa if you intend to establish Malaysia as your based to explore more of Southeast Asia.
Thanks bro for visiting Malaysia.. We'd be pleased if you would come back and visit us again and stay for a longer period.. Most people came to Malaysia they were surprised and enchanted by the beauty, warm hospitality and friendly people.. Malaysia is a country which offers almost everything.. surely you will find hard to leave..👍🇲🇾🥰

I have been to Malaysia 3 times and its one of my favourite destination. What you can do, you can take a coach to Singapore and return back to Malaysia if your visa only last for a month. for British we get 3 months so that's a plus.

It's not only a great country, it also has a bright future as well... you can sense it when you walk through the streets of KL. A lot of young and happy people. In Europe and in the US the demographics and the economic outlook is a lot worse.

Not yet conclude your feeling about Malaysia until you covered east Malaysia, which you will only see what diversity means! How the most diverse country really looks like! Thanks for feeling Malaysia with your heart!
*_East malaysia_* ie. the 2 states of sabah and sarawak in borneo, plus *_east coast of peninsular malaysia_* ie. the 3 states of pahang, terengganu, and kelantan
Yeah totally agree with this. There is a legend whereby when people from west malaysia come to east malaysia, they dont come back especially the men cause they got married with women here and settle down 😂
Malaysia is a wonderful place with warm hearted nice people and malaysia is home to us.. Its sad that there programe have gone out of reach and therefore many people have to leave... Some have come to retire some have left there country for there own reason. Malaysia is a pot of gold..transport organized facilities all in order where I come from this is a true gem... It sounds like Malaysia is your favorite country you've visited so far Alex no power outages water shortages very modern nice people fast reliable wifi English is spoken everywhere. What's not to like about Malaysia? Sorry you can't stay longer there Alex but you can always comeback and visit there. Take care 👍👍🆒🆒😎😎
You took the words out of my mouth!! It's never easy to pick a favorite since I enjoy every place I've been to and for several different factors. But yea it's hard to see a downside to Malaysia. Thank for always watching and commenting 🙏
Well, sometimes there are water disruption due to some unscrupulous factory operators dumping pollutants into the river. Usually it takes about a day to get it sorted out but not often. And yeh, you have to bear with flash floods too. Malaysia still have not found a solution to this problem.

Yeah , for the rich, not for the poor. If you have money you have an option to various excellent private hospital, but if you're poor (which majority of the country) you have to wait long time even for basic dental checkup
Are you to bodoh to think dental care is only tooth extraction? How about other dental care can i get only rm100? Btw tooth extraction cost usually rm150 for BASIC tooth extraction, up to rm600 to complicated extraction. And yes more Malaysian not even afford that even it's only "Rm100".
I was born in Penang, Malaysia but have lived overseas for more than half my lifetime. I am looking to retire back in Malaysia but the heat might be too much for me after living in cooler climates for so long. But thank you for your honest and fantastic feedback about Malaysia. Hope that you will be able to live there for longer next time.
Just arrived here 2 days ago from HCMC to KL, impressed so far . Was in Penang about 20 years ago but very briefly like 5 days. KL is Organised modern structured progressive city, with alot of Cultures ( my hotel that i booked was in the Indian quarter no doubt about that ), but i feel the air quality is not the best here maybe . I thought it was hot in HCMC but this is another level of heat and humidity, its raining here now also so thats refreshing. Would love to explore more out of the city as Im not a city guy at all. I bought a delicious fresh prepared lunch yesterday on a very clean looking street stall from a nice muslim girl for 8 ringgit (€1.60 c) rice , chicken , vegetables and a knockout Sambal chilli sauce was really great quality and good size portion, I will be having more of that today thank you very much 😊 impressed so far 💪😊
Great video Alex. We set out to give Malaysia a 3 month stay, starting in late February 2020, as part of "Where we, a pair of retirees in our mid 60's, going to settle down for a very very long time World Tour". Sadly we only got to see KL and Malacca before "the spicey cough" hit hard and the Malay government gave the whole country 24 hours notice of "Restricted Movement Order" (aka lockdown - enforced with great vigour by armed officals). We shot back to Australia double quick BUT we saw, and liked, enough of what Malaysia, and its people, offers and entice us back there at some stage. Your video is honest and accurate. Well done.

Everyday is summer in Malaysia. The sun raises at around 6.30am and sets at around 7pm. No snows, blizzards, tonardos hurricanes, sandstorms, earthquakes, tsunamis etc. Plenty of rain and sunshine. Some flooding in some parts of country at year end. No need to wear thick clothes . Can walk around in light clothings and slippers the whole day. Average temperature year round 26 - 33 celcius .
I love Malaysia. I was there for work for a few months and I agree with everything you said. I even said to myself, “I could retire here”. The food was absolutely incredible- so many varieties of spices and dishes.
If you think KL is amazing, you should definitely, most DEFINITELY travel to Sabah. As a born and bred KL-ite myself, that is my favourite state in the country. Love the place, the people, the food.

If you are not a party animal, Malaysia is the place for you. Those tourists who are party animal have a lot of complaints about Malaysia. Things are cheap because of heavy subsidy from the government on basic things like petrol, flour, cooking oil, etc. None of Malaysia neighbouring countries have such heavy subsidy for its citizen. Malaysia's neighbours smuggle things out of Malaysia and some come for shopping spree during weekends. They enjoy Malaysia currency being weak.
Great job Jake. I've heard that the traffic is pretty bad in KL but that's true for most big cities in the world. The food does look delicious. I'm looking for a Malaysian restaurant in my area to try some of it out.
Where are you from? Do try Char Kuey Teow, Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, etc. The list goes on and on. Then you'll find yourself hooked and hopefully that will motivate you to come visit Malaysia! 🤗🤗🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻🇲🇾
Traffic is bad during the peak hours. Like in the morning when people are going to work. And in the evening, when they are going home. During the fasting month, the peak hour will be earlier. Expect heavy traffic starting as early as 430. Around 630, the traffic should usually eased already.

Agree in all you say. Thanks for shearing. We are Norwegian /Thai citizen. A digression here since you mentioned Toronto. Our youngest son immigrated to Canada i.e. Vancouver and love it there.....
Hey, come over to Sabah, east Malaysia, I'm sure you'll be facinated by the Highlands of Kundasang, Mt Kinabalu, the jungle where you see Orang Utan. Go island hoping, dives Sipadan & endulge yourself with the varieties of seafood. 😊
Thank you Alex for sharing your personal opinion and disclosing before formulating any biases when making decisions. Wow I was waiting for a country you would admit to consider retiring or living long term and I’m glad you finally found it. Also yes I agree with your assessment. Malaysia seems to satisfy both quality and price. In the west quality standards are high but so are the prices but some countries have lower prices but sacrifices the quality you get. Malaysia seems to balance of quality and price. I think visas seem to be the issue but I hope it works out for you and you can somehow extend your stay. I really enjoy your Malaysia series.
Thank you, Jon! I always appreciate your well thought out and detailed comments. It means a lot to me. I did really enjoy Malaysia for the reasons you mentioned. I'll definitely be back

You should visit Borneo ( Sarawak and Sabah ) because they have the oldest rainforest in the world , 140 million years old. There's also the Orang Utan and the hornbill bird that's rarely found in other parts of the world.

Southeast asian countries are very different to one another, its very unique. When you look at east asia and south asia, they are very similar to one another. Malaysia and Thailand border directly but very different in terms of of people, language and culture

I am taking my baby in a few months who will be 7 months old, and this video has just made me super excited! I’ll be staying in KL, but really worried about mosquitoes
There are ways to avoid mosquitoes. Stay in condo or hotel that is above 8th floor, not on landed properties. Stay away from nature and greenery, far away. Always go for brightly lighted dinning or premises. Avoid dark areas. As for me, I always get bitten by mosquitoes daily on my landed property because of the greenery that surround my house. Just visited Malaysia, and loved it. Kuala Lumpur is pretty but very crowded. I also visited Singapore, and Jakarta Indonesia and out of the three countries I am leaning towards Singapore to retire. Only downfall about Singapore versus Malaysia is the size. Will visit Penang Malaysia next year and hoping that gets me to like it more.
Thank you for saying nice things about Malaysia. You haven’t been visiting the other part, the Borneo island, Malaysia. I’m sure you’d-be mesmerised further. Do visit Sarawak & Sabah. Good day
Actually the weather is not this hot this time of the year. We are experiencing an unusual heatwave to last until May or June. Even Msians complain of the heat

Good to travel around the round . If you need the cool region in Malaysia . You can go to Genting Highland & Cameron Highland . If you like sea side , there are many season along the coastal in Malaysia . Like Penang island , Langkawi , East cost in Terengganu Etc . You can always enjoy the cheap & reasonable price in budget hotels .
I agree with everything you mentioned about Malaysia.. I would like to stay here longer were it not that the requirements have been increased. If I mention something negative about Malaysia then it concerns motorized traffic. As a pedestrian you have no rights whatsoever and you cross the road at the risk of your life. Even when the light for pedestrians is green, they drive on through red. But otherwise Malaysia is great with great people. I love malaysia.
Well we are not perfect. The better things you see/ get the more critical you will be. You tend to find faults in things you see.If you wish to see goodness around you ,then you get it.
The funny thing is, you just need to raise you hand when you want to cross road in Malaysia. You didn't even need a zebra crossing or green traffic light. You can make you own zebra crossing. It's not something to be brag about, but that is the culture in the country. I guess, you just need to learn it😁. But in big cities, traffic light and Zebra crossing is usefull pedestrian
I agree with you Roy. I'm trying very hard to inculcate d civic mindedness in my elder sister to stop for pedestrians crossing (she scolds me wen I'm or she is driving for 'giving way' to them cos will cause drivers behind me/her to horn with irritation etc), giv way to cars waiting to make a turn into a side road etc. Dis bad driving habits r so ingrained dat many a time wen I giv way, stop for pedestrians to cross, they very frequently r nonplussed as to wat to do!! Dat's d sad state of our local drivers! D best part is wen they r abroad in so called western developed ctries, these Msians can praise and admire d well mannered locals driving habits!! But wen back home in Msia, they drive like they own d roads, they r immune to injuries/death/mayham !! 🤦🤷
I can recommend a visit to Kuching on Borneo, I’ve also been to KL, I liked both but think I would prefer Thailand as a retirement option, good luck on your travels 🙏🏻

Foreigners are most welcome to Msia,be it as tourist, businessess or living here as expatriate. Most tourist makes their reviews about Kuala Lumpur, the captial city only, & not the whole nation.
Thx sir for your honest review but if ever come to Malaysia again u might want to check out the Borneo side lot of native tribe living there, who know u might get to meet the notorius headhunter tribe😊
_Terima kasih_ for all the glowing praises you heaped on malaysia. Too bad your visa already ran out of time. Otherwise you could have sampled much more delicious food, traditional malay food, at hundreds of ramadhan bazaars all over the country, some of the food not or rarely found outside of this fasting month. Anyway, best wishes to you and hope you continue to stay safe and have a pleasant time wherever you go next. _Jumpa lagi!_

I was in Malaysia for nearly a month recently (KL, Melaka, Ipoh).
Positives:
Negatives:

Those begging for money not from middle east , they are rohinyah ..

And another important thing about Malaysia is their healthcare is one of the best in the world. 😎
Luckily, I've never had to use it, but that's great information!
Try going to the government dental clinic and you'll know what kind of garbage healthcare they offer there
Yeah , for the rich, not for the poor. If you have money you have an option to various excellent private hospital, but if you're poor (which majority of the country) you have to wait long time even for basic dental checkup
@@5mpv2011are you too poor to pay at least RM100 for tooth extraction in a dental clinic.

Well done.
Wow thanks for sharing your experiences

Sad to hear that you are leaving...but you are always welcomed to Malaysia again...
Thank you, Mohd Zaki! 🤝
One more thing to consider is the fact that even though inflation is ongoing,Malaysians are still generous to everyone even the foreigners.
Yes you're right !
Very true! A proud Malaysian here!
🤗🤗🤗
You should be proud 😊
Everyday is summer in Malaysia. The sun raises at around 6.30am and sets at around 7pm. No snows, blizzards, tonardos hurricanes, sandstorms, earthquakes, tsunamis etc. Plenty of rain and sunshine. Some flooding in some parts of country at year end. No need to wear thick clothes . Can walk around in light clothings and slippers the whole day. Average temperature year round 26 - 33 celcius .
Some entitle Asian 😂
Just relating about the kind of climatic and geographical conditions we have here in Malaysia - from someone who stays here.
Thanks for the honest comment and obeying the laws.... Welcome to Malaysia whenever u like.. As we are warm all the ways
Thank you so much 😁
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. What a lovely perception. Beautifully diversed.
Thank you, Yasin ! I'm happy you liked it 😊
@@Livingabroadalex Thank u. 😄
Thank you for the suggestion I have to have a look

Tq for the compliments. We really appreciate it
It's the truth. I appreciate Malaysia and it's wonderful people ❤️
Thanks for your kind comments on the goodness of Malaysia.
My pleasure
Well said Stan. Hope you find one 😋

My wife and I have been to Malaysia several times. Loved it. Since my wife for 40 years is Thai, we have retired in Thailand. But we have planned to make a 3 months trip to Malaysia later this year. Agree in all you say. Thanks for shearing. We are Norwegian /Thai citizen. A digression here since you mentioned Toronto. Our youngest son immigrated to Canada i.e. Vancouver and love it there.....
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts
Hey, come over to Sabah, east Malaysia, I'm sure you'll be facinated by the Highlands of Kundasang, Mt Kinabalu, the jungle where you see Orang Utan. Go island hoping, dives Sipadan & endulge yourself with the varieties of seafood. 😊
Wow thanks Charles!
I'll definitely be back
I must admit you haven't been popping up on my home page so I haven't been watching your videos!!! I looked and I'm still subscribed!!! Good to see your still with your partner you both look really happy together. One of the last videos I watched you guys were parting way and future was unsure what you two were gonna be doing!!! I'll start watching again!!! I was really liking the content that you were putting out!!
Hey!!! No hard feelings. I know life gets busy, and it's not easy for us to keep up with all the channels we watch. I'm the same way. Happy I made it to your home page, and thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. I'm happy to have you back 🥳🤝
Sad to hear you are leaving. I wish you a safe journey and may your feet find you a way to a better health physically, financially and spiritually. You will always be welcome here. Assalamualaikum..

You should visit Borneo ( Sarawak and Sabah ) because they have the oldest rainforest in the world , 140 million years old. There's also the Orang Utan and the hornbill bird that's rarely found in other parts of the world.
Well done my friend. Really enjoyed the presentation, and honesty. Truly looking at Malaysia myself. Best wishes to you! Jim
More videos on Malaysia very soon!
Aww.... thanks of ur honesty about Malaysia. We glad to see u again soon.
My pleasure Brother Bluez2000
I’m going to plan to come to Malaysia in a year or two, nearly ready for retirement… it looks so amazing..
thank you alex for all the praises n compliments, happy that you enjoy your stay here. i was studying in kingston ontario n ottawa in the eighties n i enjoy myself when i was there. last but not least, we welcome you with open arms for another visit, living here permanently or retire here. thank you again n stay safe brother ❤
Thank you so much brother! I'll be back soon 🥳
South East Asia is a very unique region. Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam etc all r unique, beautiful n very contrasting culture
Southeast asian countries are very different to one another, its very unique. When you look at east asia and south asia, they are very similar to one another.
Malaysia and Thailand border directly but very different in terms of of people, language and culture
Thank you with love Alex ..
So honest and sincere..It's seems You are really fall in love to Malaysia ..
You most welcome here again Alex.😍.Sorry for my bad English🤭
Thank you Ennie! I'll be back in the future 🤝😊
Thank you for visiting Malaysia.. Hope you have enjoyed our hospitality and our foods..

Safe journey in your travel to other countries..

Excellent! Very much appreciate your perspectives...especially the "green" views.
Thank you RIP Read 😀
Heading there in june for 6 weeks. Ill drive a car from KL down the east coast to Singapore... Then up the west coast back to KL.
Cannot wait!
Sounds incredible! Enjoy
Awesome review. Looks like a very beautiful place….wish you can do a cost of living. I never knew that Malaysia was so beautiful…wow
Yes Bob it's beautiful here
Good idea on cost of living 👍🏼
Been there 3 times and love it especially with the UK expat link. Also easier to relocate compared to some other Asian countries...watched you from begining and your channel grow so fast as your content is great...Nuf respect bro 🤜
I am taking my baby in a few months who will be 7 months old, and this video has just made me super excited! I’ll be staying in KL, but really worried about mosquitoes
Wow enjoy your trip. I wouldn't worry to much about it. I know it's scary, but you gotta live your life
There are ways to avoid mosquitoes.
Please note, mosquito loves babies.
@kayellai5278 excellent advice 👌
Hi, one can avoid dark colour or navy blue clothes to avoid mosquitos coming near. Also, mosquitos don't like lotions. Can try baby lotions on skin.
Good day
Thank you for the suggestions!
good video my bru, thanks for posting
Mt pleasure
Thanks for ur visit. Have a safe & enjoy ur journey.
Thank you for juz sayin 😉
Actually the weather is not this hot this time of the year. We are experiencing an unusual heatwave to last until May or June. Even Msians complain of the heat
Oh hehe that makes sense
either the heat or the thunderstorms (floods = traffic jams)

The best thing in Malaysia is the people they are very friendly always smiling and very humble and not racist or arrogant
Yes absolutely! They all seem well educated, respectful and tolerable
Malaysia is just about the most racist country in the world.
Well said 👏
Of all the places to retire at Mo Salah, you chose Malaysia and that really surprised me! Big up Mo!
Tq for nice review..greeting from malaysia
Thanks for your such an honest compliment. Appreciated..
😍
Thank you foe the warm welcome 🙏
Thank you Sir !!!
This is my first time watching your video.. and it is nice to hear your point of views when someone talked about my own country❤ Subscribed ❤
Thank you!
Well said Roy but I guess after just coming from India and Thailand, I didn't even notice it 😅
Well we are not perfect.
Here we trust "the power of hand" 😂
I can recommend a visit to Kuching on Borneo, I’ve also been to KL, I liked both but think I would prefer Thailand as a retirement option, good luck on your travels 🙏🏻
Thanks for watching and thanks for the advice
Appreciate this!
Best wishes to Malaysia and it's genuinely friendly people

Maybe not immediately after, but definitely at some point

I'd love to on the future!!

🤭 I've heard Borneo is phenomenal and the photos I've seen look unreal! I'll definitely have to consider it 😉
