EXCELLENCE OYSTER BAY OVERVIEW AND REVIEW: Jamaican 5 star, adults only all-inclusive resort review

Excellence Oyster Bay - probably the most expensive Excellence property in their collection. But is it really worth the extra cost? We have just completed a 7 night trip to Excellence Oyster Bay in Jamaica. In this video we are going to give you our honest review of this resort as well as some tips so that you can decide if this resort is right for you.
EOB is rated 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor and 9/10 on Expedia at the time of this video. It is an adults only, all-inclusive resort located on the Oyster Bay Peninsula of Jamaica.
The resort opened in 2018. The beach houses were completed in 2019. It is approximately a 35-45 minutes drive from the airport depending on traffic.
It is on the smaller side with just 320 suites and it is also well spread out. Because of the design the resort feels peaceful and private even when they are at 100% capacity.
There are 10 restaurants and several bars. 8 restaurants are for all guests and 2 restaurants are reserved for excellence club level guests. There is also a sports bar and a coffee shop. All food, drinks, and activities are included in your all-inclusive rate. Excellence is not the type of resort that nickels and dimes you for extras. Even lobster is included. If you want to splurge on wine or fancy dinners on the beach you certainly can, but it is not necessary.
Whether or not to upgrade to club level is really dependent on what you value in a vacation it is not always worth the splurge.
All of the rooms in the resort are very large starting at 800 sq ft and going up, so no matter what room you book you will get a very comfortable, spacious suite to experience.
In this video we show you a junior suite mountain view located in the main building on the third floor. There are many different room options to choose from.
If you’re a beach lover then Jamaica is a good choice overall but less so at EOB. Visually the beach is stunning. It’s long and circles a large portion of the resort but don't let many of the online images fool you, they do some great camera work but in actuality the beach is very very narrow. Because it is so narrow there is not a lot of space on the beach for chairs before you are into the water.
The largest beach spaces are reserved for excellence club guests.
Excellence Resorts pride themselves on Service and based on our experiences with the collection it is where they stand well above their competition.
They do a great job with training their staff on service standards. There are cultural differences of course, depending on which country you are visiting but overall it is the service that brings us back time and again to Excellence properties. Although Jamaica does run on island time, everything here was done with a smile and it was rare that I felt like I was putting someone out.
It is better than its Mexican and Dominican counterparts, in our opinion? No it is not. But it is a strong offering, a lovely and relaxing resort on a beautiful island that has a unique vibe all its own.
Whether you’re looking for adventure, romance, or relaxation, this resort has a lot to offer.

Great video, thank you for sharing your experience! I am going to Excellence Playa Mujeres in November and I am so excited! It will be my first flight for a vacation, my first time to an all inclusive resort and my first time to Mexico!

If you've watched our EPM videos, the restaurants have changed a bit and are better now. Los Olas, on the beach, is a copy of ERC's and way better now.😃

It is pretty quiet through the day but the nightly bands playing in the courtyard brought some good Caribbean music to enjoy through the night 😊

Great review - thanks. So is the beach footage near the water sports area that’s kind of shady (the footage whilst you are talking about the volley ball being out the way and the weird snorkel mask rules) is that the excellence club beach only?
Thanks! The beach by the volleyball court is open for everyone. It is wider with plenty of chairs. 😊

For tours around the Island I actually like to use either Viator or Best Jamaica Tours. bestjamaicatravels.com/best-jamaica-tours/
With Best Jamaica you can check out what they offer and then connect with them about picking you up at EOB.
You can also book things through the concierge at the resort but I often find them more money than if I just booked it myself.

The glow in the dark algae tour at night is right there. ☺️ Our mountain view room looked right to it from the balcony.
Just discovered your channel and appreciate the honest reviews. We're thinking of going to EOB and was wondering how long it takes to walk from one end of the resort to the other and how is the bug situation there? Are there lots of mosquitos etc?

EOB is not a large resort and easy to walk from one end to the next. Maybe 5-10 minutes depending on how often you stop along the way. 😊
Mosquitoes are pretty bad in Jamaica. We saw them fogging spots on the mountain from our balcony. Bring some decent level (%) deet spray for the evenings. There are more during Jamaica's rainy season so it also depends on what time of year you visit.

Thank you! I'm not sure where you're coming from but Jamaican electrical is 110v, so the same as North America. If you're visiting from Europe you will need a converter.

Great information! Still deciding on this resort. We are going as a group of 16 for a 70th birthday vacation. Our family are all between 30 and 50 and want to party. I understand speakers are not allowed at the pools at this resort. Should we be looking somewhere else. Can you recommend a resort for us? Thanks again for your help!
Honestly, EOB is pretty chill and 'couply'.
Check out Excellence Playa Mujeres just north of Cancun airport (40 min drive). It is the quality of excellence but EPM draws a more lively crowd.
Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya is a nice blend of party with good restaurants. Great activities staff! Avoid the base rooms at VIRM but Golden room categories are fantastic. Drinks at the pool are not as good as Excellence but easily overcome if you keep it simple.
Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana, DR is also a good one have a look at.

Hello! I have a question. Does the buffet only offer breakfast or does it offer lunch and dinner as well?
When we were there it was only open for breakfast and closed at 11am.
According to the hours in the app, it is only ever open for breakfast. Excellence goes hard on not being buffets-and-required-reservations resorts
I’m planing to visit this resort for my honeymoon in June. Do you think the weather will be an issue?

Which Excellence resort in Cancun would you recommend?
We have been to each of them several times over and honestly, they are both (3rd opening soon) very good. It depends on what vibe you are looking for.
Excellence Playa Mujeres is a bit more expensive. Often draws a more boisterous, activities-focused crowd. Their club level is more peaceful and is more service oriented than ERC.
Beach is a bit better at EPM
Excellence Riviera Cancun has a very good activities staff and lots to do but a bit more subdued than EPM. This is always depended on the crowds that particular week, of course. ERC has a bigger club pool which I love but the service is a touch less focused because of it. Not bad at all just not as fine tuned. ERC is often a little bit less $. (Not a lot but a bit)
The beach is great but this area has a bit more seaweed than north of Cancun.
The 3rd one opening in 2025 is priced really really high so I'm not too eager to try that one until
The price comes down.

You hesitated several times during your delivery or assessment of this resort. At the very least, try to have a positive and cheerful voice. Good luck and much success in all your future endeavors.
You are on RUclips. You should search for how to shoot video footage. The side pans are very distracting and nauseating. Very detailed though!

I must say the negative energy you started off with and actually throughout your shaky video was a bit much. It’s almost as if you were expecting nothing but bad service for this resort. Delivery of your verbiage must be analyzed before doing any other reviews..

Did you find the atmosphere to be highly humid ?
Not too bad in October, except in the evening at Lobster house and Oregano restaurants. The fans over the seating area are pretty useless for moving air around in the outdoor restaurants. The food was worth it but I dressed as lightly (breathable fabric) as possible. 😊
